Frank - How do Malone and Walsh fair attendancewise at Fawcett Stadium?  Seems to be a pretty big venue for an NAIA team as well.

They don't fare too well.  Any high school game played there (not including Timken) does way better in attendance.  Obviously, McKinley is king, but Glenoak does fairly well depending on their opponent at times.

I just think the proximity to the HOF, the prestige of playing in that stadium (where just a few weeks earlier they play the HOF game), the easy access from 77, and the potential sponsors make it the prime site.  Now that weekend may not even be doable.  I would guess there is a few high school games, either a Malone or Walsh game, and who knows what else.  I am looking to Massillon, and possibly the Rubber Bowl as alternative sites.

First, I am not sure if any D3 schools can/ would play a "neutral site" game.

I can think of one neutral site in VA I'd be happy to play in every year... ;)

I would absolutely back a game hosted at Dial-Roberson featuring Kenton/Hardin Northern, Findlay/Tiffin and ONU/Berg in a showcase weekend.  It would be a cool event and boost local merchant revenue in the area (the Beagle).

Have any of you guys attended the Herbstriet Challenge games for highschool programs? I have been to the ones held at Massillons Tiger Stadium and they were not sold out by any means. Though the concept  is still young, and I expect it to grow, I doubt that it is profitable yet. However, given time and some word of mouth I can see the thing growing into an annual event of national prominance. Florida, Texas, California, New Mexico, and Michigan have sent teams already. I talked to some locals at this years Stagg Bowl and they were going to inquire about playing in it. The point is, somebody took a chance on it. D3 just has to find somebody willing to be the first to take a chance on it. Because Fawcett stadium is already home to 3 highschools and 2 college teams as well as the HOF game already, I think you can scratch that site off the available list. Maybe Massillon would do it. The Rubber Bowl is one of my least favorite venues. KSU has been a lukewarm host for highschool playoff games. You wouldnt want to hold the first game in a stadium of cavernous proportions anyway, although Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium is used for half of the Herbstreit Challenge games already. I wouldnt hold the event Labor Day Weekend either. There are lots of events held that weekend already to compete with. I like the idea. It would take some good planning and marketing to be successful. I would go.

We could plan the event around the Premiere of The Mount Union Story movie.  ;D
If we could just cast the darn thing!

Even if he stood on Ric's shoulders he wouldn't be as tall as Larry ;D

I'd kinda like to see the Texas vs. The Nation site update its roster before making any new references on the site.

Who is going to play section13raiderfan?

My vote is for Sam Elliot:

Would Sam be willing to add weight and lose some hair for this part? I think not!

Great stuff on here for this time of year!  Thanks everybody for the good reading.

kcreds,
Big welcome and thanks for your insights and insightfulness, but hold off on the incites and incitefulness as some have suggested (no names being mentioned).  ;)

frank, thanks for the attendance figures.  Who draws the most in D3?

Martin Sheen is not only too short.  He's too left-wing.  I'm hoping LK isn't anywhere near Mr. Sheen's politics.

If you hung a pair of half rim reading glasses with a cord on Tim Robbins would he be close enough to play LK?

Craiginator is either a real movie buff or unemployed and bored.  Just kiddin...keep up the good work Craiginator. There may be a job at Central Casting for ya. ;)

If Joe Tait plays himself for authenticity...will Harry Paides insist on the same?

section13raiderfan

On a more serious note.....We all know LK has a propensity to hire retired area highschool coaches on his staff and what a boost it is to the program to benefit from that well of knowledge and experience. What say we see if Thom McDaniels would like to be part of a winning program again! Technically hes retired. It would be a good fit for all involved. I hope his son does not take that OTHER RAIDER job. That franchise is in such disarray that only Jesus could save it now. >:(
