On a more serious note.....We all know LK has a propensity to hire retired area highschool coaches on his staff and what a boost it is to the program to benefit from that well of knowledge and experience. What say we see if Thom McDaniels would like to be part of a winning program again! Technically hes retired. It would be a good fit for all involved. I hope his son does not take that OTHER RAIDER job. That franchise is in such disarray that only Jesus could save it now. >:(

From what I know about Tom McDaniels, you can forget about him being a faceless assistant at the D3 level.  At Ohio State?  Yes.  But not at D3.

McDaniels might consider it.  It would be a learning experience for him in order to up his  knowledge of the game.  Why not learn from  one of the best.

Newspaper accounts have McDaniels expressing interest in the Jackson and Lakewood Highschool jobs. If I had my choices I would prefer the MUC job to either. In Jackson you have a pay to play scenerio with parents who think their money entitles them to make unlimited demands. Mauro wont miss those parents much.  At Lakewood you have a bad blood scenerio. They accused McDaniels of turning them in to OSHAA for playing an inelidgible player recently, although he denies it. The notion that he needs a coaching education is amusing. The guy is about the only coach that can take a public school and beat the Catholic schools in the state playoffs. He can do more with less....and has. That shows craftiness. MUC should see if he would be interested. Wakefield was! He was in a similar situation himself not too long ago. McDaniels coaching at any other OAC school would elivate their programs...take my word for it. And NO..im NOT a McKinley alum or booster.

The difference is that Wakefield doesn't have the "elevated selfworth" that McDaniels does.  I'm not saying he wouldn't be a great addition to a coaching staff, just that I doubt he'd stoop to the level of a D3 assistant.

If Josh McDaniels does indeed get the Oakland Raiders job, does he bring his Dad along as an assistant?

As far as Thom McDaniels going to OSU, I don't know if that will happen.  I know he and Jim Tressel had a pretty good relationship, but after the Clarett thing, I don't know if that is true anymore.  The way I understand it is that McDaniels stuck by Clarett through the whole thing.  Ohio State lost Mario Manningham to Michigan in no small part because of the perception at Harding that the Ohio State coaching staff didn't "take care of" Clarett, and McDaniels let that attitude fester there, rather than back Tressel and his staff.

I don't see any assistants leaving OSU this year, but even so, I don't think Thom McDaniels would go to Columbus.

The Raiders Job can be a career killer, but so can the Indiana University job.  He left there somewhat disgraced and discredited and look where he is now.  Oakland is out of control and Al isn't going to get a big name to take the job after what happened with Norv Turner and Art Shell.  It's going to take a young hungry guy who doesn't mind being overshadowed by the grim reaper.

Didn't McDaniels apply for the JCU job a few years back?  I don't see him as an assistant in DIII, but he might take a job as head coach in the proper situation.

I would imagine the salary differential between big time high school head coach and DIII assistant is significant.  I can't imagine it happening unless hmoney is not important to him.

I think the $ differnce between NFL OC and DIII HC would keep this from happening.  He will probably be a HC in the next 3-5 years if the Pats keep winning.  NFL teams are looking for the Next Sean Payton type HC.  Young, Hungry and winning experience.

Which McDaniels are some of you talking about?

Josh (son), who is the OC for the Patriots and rumored to be a candidate for the HC job of the Oakland Raiders; or Thom (father), who was the HC at McKinley and then Warren Harding?

As a Belichek disciple young McDaniel will get a shot if he stays put for a few years.  It may be to tempting to pass up the chance to be an NFL HC if the Raiders offer him the job.

Thom McDaniels also interviewed for the Ashtabula Lakeside job.  Didn't seenything about Lakewood, but did see possible interest in St. Ed's, which is where Lakewood might be coming from.

I was talking about Thom, not Josh.  I think Thom applied at JCU a few years ago before he went to Harding.

Sorry, I got confused.  I thought they were talking about Josh applying for the JCU job, not Thom.

Parcells retired (again) today.  Another job opening to be speculated.  Read a rumor that the Cowboys were interested in Rany Moss, they already have T.O., and Jerry Jones is the owner/GM.  A drem job for someone!
