JK....I think you are flat wrong about Coach McDaniels," sticking by Clarett through the whole thing." He was very vocal in his criticism of Clarett, his mom,his lawyers, and his advisors. Clarett did not follow Coach McDaniels advice at any point. If he had he wouldn't be in the joint today.Todd Porter of the Canton Repository wrote several articles wherein he quoted McDaniels about Maurice. You are wrong to imply McDaniels was in any way miffed at OSU over the way they dealt with Clarett.Who is your source?Mine would be the Porter articles.

reality check

Well noone needs to keep worrying about Josh McDaniels and where he will be next year.  Al Davis offered the job to another 31 year old and now USC'c Lane Kiffin will take over the Oakland Raiders.  McDaniels is best off continuing to develop under the guidance of Belicheck up in Foxboro.  I just hope he doesn't start wearing those sloppy gray sweatsuits.

It was neat watching the game and seeing him strategizing with Brady.  I'm betting he didn't tell him to throw that pick.  Darn Michigan kids insist on doing such bad things.

I saw Josh McD on the sidelines talking to Belicheck on Sunday and he was wearing the same Gray Sweatshirt.  Two differences though, JM didn't cut off the sleeves and he also had a JM on the front of it, while BB did not have his initials on his shirt.

I think JK knows an insider at OSU.

Yes, my dad is friends with the Tressels, but I am not going to attribute any of my previous post to them.  I know McDaniels had some critical things to say about Clarett, and perhaps I shouldn't have used the phrase "stuck by Clarett."

What I do know is that when OSU was recruiting Mario Manningham, they had to try to overcome the perception among the elite athletes at Harding that the OSU staff didn't "take care of" Clarett.  The impression that I got was that Clarett, whether directly or indirectly, spread some not so nice stories and innuendo around Harding that factored directly into Maningham's decision to go to Michigan.  I think there was some frustration that T. McDaniels didn't do enough to dispel those rumors and stand behind the OSU staff, with whom he previously had a very good relationship.

I think all college coaches know that a kid is going to do what he wants to do, and I don't think the staff at OSU blames McDaniels for Manningham going to Michigan.  But you're naive if you don't think a HS coach has big input into a kid's decision.  I think there was some frustration involved that OSU lost a top Ohio kid, especially from a program like Harding that had historically been a pipeline school.  Losing him to Michigan only hurt worse.  I don't think the staff at OSU is or was "miffed" at McDaniels personally, just frustrated by the fallout of the situation that took place at Harding and felt that he could have done more for them.

Again, none of this is directly from anyone at OSU, just my thoughts and musings based on observations and a very little teeny-tiny bit of inside info through indirect conversations.  I certainly DO NOT profess to be an expert or an "insider" in any way.  I do sometimes get info that others do not because of my Father's relationship with the Tressels, but usually even that takes some piecing together and "editorializing" on my part.

So, you can take all of this for what it is...

JK,

After reading and re-reading your last post I have to ask; are you considering politics as a career path after the military? ;)
12-0 = 13

JK

rscl,

Actually, I considered a career in politics long before I joined the Army.  Ask anyone from West Branch class of 93.  I majored in Poli-Sci with designs on going to law school at Cap, but decided it would be better to do the Army thing while I was young and still stupid (plus my grades were crappy and Law School probably wasn't an option anymore).

Since then, I have come to the realization that I am not a dynamic enough personality to be a politician.  Plus, I am really fed up with politics in America in their current state.

Anyway, why do you ask? :)

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

The federal government shouldn't be able to do that!

Toph - I apologize for my sorry attempt at humor.  Please forgive me for trying to make light of the duties of the executive office and federal government.  I realize they have many more important issues, such as steroids in baseball.

JK,

Looks like there's a grass roots movement to draft you for President! It's time to start practicing your lines: "No, I am not a candidate.  :o  I have made no such decision, but (insert name of reporter) you'll be the first to know if I do decide to run."  :-X

I think I'll break my story with Terry Pluto  ;)

Or maybe I'll do what Hillary did and do it on Ric's website  ;D

Regarding Thom McDaniels...When Clarett threatened to go public with some behind the scenes info to discredit OSU and Tressel the newspapers contacted McDaniels at Warren for his thoughts. Thom Replied that Maurice had not asked for his advice so it was none of his bisiness. But said this also...If Maurice Clarett wants to pit his integrity against Jim Tressels.....he will lose very badly. I take that as an indorsement of Tressel. Seeing where Maurice is now, Thom was a good judge of character.

The rumor about McDaniels being interested in the John Carroll job was just speculation fueled by the fact that Josh was attending college there. Nothing more.

The youngest McDaniels is also coaching. Hes an assistant at McKinley. He attended Kent State but did not cut it as a player. But they made him a student coach instead. There must have been a lot of football talked over dinner at the McDaniels house when the kids were growing up. Poor Mrs McD. She probably couldnt get into those conversations.
