JK I don't think your ready to run yet.I do think your mom is.During HOF week in Canton Coach McDaniels arranged for Clarett to meet with and talk to  HOF running back Marcus Allen. They waited an hour and Clarett didn't show.

Not sure who was given Clarett advice thru the years, but those people should be smacked.  Decision after decision was made poorly by Maurice from transfering in HS, to false police reports & "loaner" cars in college to trying to turn pro early.

IMHO, what Clarett was missing was a strong upstanding father figure to teach him how to be a man.  Clarett and Troy Smith came from very similar back grounds (most would agree that Troy's was worse), but Troy had some positive influences (foster parents, Coach Ginn, Coach Tressel) along the way to help him turn out as a model citizen in the end.  If Clarett had such influences in his life, the media has never found them and Maurice just stupidly chose to ignore them.  Either way, he has completely pissed away the chance to be The Man in Columbus and a legit shot in the NFL.

Which brings me back to why I love D3 football so much.  No one like Clarett.

Speaking of Troy Smith. Have you seen those bumper stickers yet that say,

HONK IF YOU SACKED TROY SMITH

too funny, and sad too.

Yes but D3 has its warts like everyone else.  Look at the Stout players arrested on drug charges and these guys at Guilford.

Wow, redneck bigots in North Carolina, what are the chances of that? ;D (Actually, quite sad)

I'm ready to form a presidential exploratory committee for JK (Considering all it takes is two forms and a 39 cent stamp) However, I'm afraid he might be over qualified and wayyyyyyy too ethical. 8)

The rumor about McDaniels being interested in the John Carroll job was just speculation fueled by the fact that Josh was attending college there. Nothing more.

section13raiderfan:
You are wrong.  Coach McDaniels did, in fact, apply for the coaching position at John Carroll after DeCarlo's retirement.  Josh had one more year of eligibility (which he may have chosen to use) but was already lining up his G.A. position at MSU.  It would have been more likely that Coach McDaniels would have been coaching Ben at JCU-- which could have been really interesting seeing as his youngest son would have entered the same year as Tom Arth.  Regardless, to say it was "just speculation" is false.

HSCoach,
Have you forgotten about some of the guys who have made their way through our conference?  I know there have been plenty of guys who played in the fall, didn't attend class, and were dismissed from school before spring.  BW had a few in the mid to late-90's.  I am sure there are a whole lot more like that, too.
It's just a good thing that the media interest in DIII is minimal.  Can you imagine how the Kaz thing would have been covered by the major media outlets?
Even at DIII, there' always a story...

Small but Slow

Any time you get a group of 18-22 year old men together something crazy may occur.  I'm pretty sure the Duke Lacrosse team is not the first to hire a stripper for a party and the situation get out of control.  Not downplaying Clarett's behavior, it's not uncommon for a young person to lie, blame others, and get himself in deeper trouble when confronted for making some other poor choices.  I guess society just expects more from our big time athletes and coaches.

Guess I should have expanded my thought further as "No one like Clarett stealing the attention away from the game".  You're right about D3 having it's ugly folks too, as is the case at all levels and in all sports.  But the overall sense of entitlement and that the "world owes me" is not openly wide spread in D3 like the higher levels.  The lack of media attention, no one playing soley for a shot at the NFL and no athletic money makes it a ton more pure than D1.  Which is exactly why I love it so much.

A lot of people look down on D3 for being nothing more than glorified high school ball, but in my mind that's a good thing.  For 99% of the kids playing high school ball, you could describe their reason for playing as they "love it".  Same with D3.

PS.  Glad to have you back on board.

I can't let a naive statement like that slide as it clearly shows a lack of understanding of what motivates 15-18 year old young men. There are a lot of reasons they participate in high school sports like pride, ego, parental pressure, peer pressure and the idea of securing a college scholarship. There are a lot of kids who love their sports, but I think they are in the clear minority, with the majority doing it because their friends do it, because of a the need to get a letter jacket to fit in, to gain elevated status in the dating world or because they don't want let Mom and Dad down.

If 99% of kids played for the love of the game, everybody would be D3 and there wouldn't be so many frustrated, burnt out coaches out there. :-X

While I agree in principle with your entire post, I don't think its fair to say only D3 plays for the love of the game. I think there are a great many in D1 and D2 that play for the love of the game. they just happened to be at the right time and right place to get a scholarship.

And a lot of DI and DII benchwarmers no longer love the game (some have come to hate it) but do not drop out because it would mean giving up the grant-in-aid. Their attitudes adversely affect the general attitude of their respective teams.
