... also, did Scott Thomas (West Branch High) participate in spring drills?....he is a very good, and transferred to Mount for family reasons...

Talented?  Yes.  But injury prone.

I watched the Mount practice last Saturday, what would you like to know?

Got a look at Mount's most recent Championship ring last night from one of my students - WOW! It is impressive to say the least - and it is HUGE. He had the ring from 2005 for comparision and the new one makes it look like a little kids ring. I saw the design in the newsletter link on Ric's site but it does not do justice.

What was the format?  Did they srcrimmage and just play touch?

Any new surprises on either side of the ball?

I saw most of saturdays scrimmage. It was a shorts and shoes with no helmets type of affair. The plays were run quickly and the players were substituted liberally. After each play LK told them where to spot the ball for the next play and they went from there. There were lots of big plays by the offense both running and passing. When someone blew a play they ran endzone to endzone. Of course with no pads the D couldnt get physical, so they didnt really stand out as much. Even the field goal teams got some time in. All I can say is....there aint much rust to knock off at this point....and the well surely aint dry as far as up and comming young players are concerned. ;D However, as far as names of players who did well....too many multiple numbers and no programs or announcers to verify exactly who did what. The starters from last year are ready to play right where they left off from last year. GO RAIDERS!

reality check

Bored while watching the NBA playoffs so here's a quickie update on OAC alums in the arena leagues:

Justen Stickley is averaging 3.6 YPC with 3 rushing TD's and a receiving TD along with 8 tackles.  Jesse Wells has 7 tackles on the season with .5 a sack.  JR Cipra is no longer on the Canton Legends roster as announced in a Legends press release.  Cipra apparently had to leave the team for personal reasons.

Shane Franzer leads the CIFL in almost all passing categories (ATT, COMP, COMP %, TD's, Yards) and also leads the league in rushing TD's with 9.  Vagedes is third on the team in receptions but still has only 1 TD.  The Pirates are 5-0 and outscore their opponents 277-69.

Micheaux Robinson comes off a career high 8 tackle performance for the Orlando Predators and is fifth on his team with 17 tackles on the year.

Matt D'Orazio has a TD/INT ratio of 32/6 and continues to anchor the Chicago Rush offensive attack.

Rusty Midlam leads the Louisville Fire in tackles for the season with 17.5 on the year.

And the best thing I found all night is this: I think I found BUSTA 99 alive and well. Can one of the old-school Post Patterns guys remember or confirm my recollection that Busta was and is Greg Liggens??? Wilmington grads Brandon Tisdale, Jonathon Cain and Greg Liggens play for the Cincy Marshals in the NIFL but the league site is lacking and season stats are not listed.

Browns Fans:
Great 1st round picks for Cleveland.  Joe Thomas is great and Brady Quinn should be okay too.  The Browns could turn the corner with the help of these two guys.

That's the way I remember it.

Well we had two D-IIIers get drafted to end the drought.  I had hoped Cincy or Cleveland would give Trusnik a shot at being drafted but I had a feeling it was not to be when Cleveland picked up a DE with both the 200th and 213th picks.

Of course, by not being drafted, he has a better chance of catching on somewhere he feels he can compete for a roster spot.  I wish him luck.  I do feel he'll get a free agent contract based on his workouts.

I'm happy D-III got a couple guys drafted.

Me too. It's a pretty good day to be a D-III fan.

Yes, way to go KC, they have done it before. Just wish they would draft OSU players. In case anyone cares, kc at the beginnig of my user name stands for Kansas City Chiefs.

joelmama

Wouldn't that have to be KCCreds then?

The New York Jets signed Jason Trusnik as a free agent.  It's been announced on ONUsports.com but has yet to be posted on the Jets website.

And I don't know why the CAP guys haven't noticed yet but Rocky Pentello has been invited by the Cleveland Browns to attend their rookie camp in May.
