The New York Jets signed Jason Trusnik as a free agent.  It's been announced on ONUsports.com but has yet to be posted on the Jets website.

And I don't know why the CAP guys haven't noticed yet but Rocky Pentello has been invited by the Cleveland Browns to attend their rookie camp in June.

I was about to post about Pentello.   So happy for him.  All Crusaders are so proud of him!!

If Rocky participates in the Browns rookie camp does that affect his 7th year of eligibility?

Capital had an ROTC Cadet commit suicide last night.

I know of no other info at this time, but please keep the entire Capital community in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks.

JK,
Our thoughts and prayers are with the CAP family.

On a bright note, hopefully Rocky gets at least a shot at the practice squad.

Atta way, Rocky.  That's cool.  Maybe The Rock will come on the board and tell us all about it.
In all sincerity, I wish him the best.

tdubs,

It says something to me that you used the words "Cap family"

You know as well as I that Capital has been using that "Cap family" slogan for years.  I must say that in my first year or so there, I thought it was more propaganda to get kids to come to school, but it really is true.  I'm sure it is true for other small schools as well.  All of the institutions we represent on this board are smaller schools where a sense of community and "family" develops, where it doesn't at larger schools.  When a tragedy like this happens, it affects all... current students and faculty as well as alumni and former professors.

In the larger sense, then, others from small schools can relate.  How we all reached out to Bluffton is another example of this.  It confirms for me my decision to attend Cap and become a part of the "Cap family."  Once you are a part of it, it becomes a part of you... for life.  I can only assume the same is true at other places.  I see how close my mom still is to Mount and my dad still is to BW, and they are approaching their 60's.  I see guys on this site like hscoach, reality, Ric, etc, and that only confirms my assumption.  I think that says something about the sense of community developed at smaller schools and, more importantly, about the quality of people that institutions like our produce.

JK,
Very well said. Going to a smaller school was a great choice for me in regards to a social setting. I have developed life long friendships. I guess you can say you get what you pay for, and we all know that we paid alot. :)

JK and  tdubs,

You guys hit it on the head.  I will be paying for my Capital education till at least 2017.  I wouldn't ahve it any other way.  I definitely made some lifelong friends, and that is priceless.

For example my sister went to a large state school, Kent State.  I think she has maybe one friend from her undergrad that she is still close with.  Whereas, from Capital I have probably 5 or 6 really really close friends and another 10-15 who are still clsoe and would help me anytime I needed it and I would do the same.

I love the Cap family.
I love the OAC family.
I love the D-3 family.

As a small town guy from a small college it's often hard to quantify the value of the sense of community that you have in a smaller school. I look around this board and see guys like Runyr and Rscl70 that I went to Mount with 40 years ago still active and interested. I see the devotion and service to the school expressed by JK's mom and my brother. I'm happy and proud when Coach Kehres remembers my name from the years we shared at Mount. But it was my Akron U. grad wife who was dumbfounded that when I decided to go back and get the degree that the Viet Nam war robbed me of, I was happy to commute 30 miles each way to Alliance, because a degree from anywhere else wouldn't have mean't the same thing to me. It took a lot of years to understand the term - homecoming.

Ouch, JK.  That's a splash of reality I could have done without!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the "Capital Family" and the Family of the ROTC member.  What a tragedy it is when someone so young (or any age for that matter) feels so desperate and hopeless that they will take their own life.  And how sad that no one was able to reach out and help before this happened.

Well said my friend.  My father, who graduated in 1942, felt that same sense of family and involvement to the day he died.  In fact, the last conversation we had revolved around "The Grand Old College."

Attention All Directors of Alumni or Development:
You too can reach this target demographic!

What's it mean when there's nobody on the board but old guys getting nostalgic for the dear old college?
Answer:  It means we've been too long without football and it's still four months away!
