reality check

I don't know seventies.

A seven on seven camp between Hiram College and some 5th grade boys could be pretty competitive.

Hmm! It is the only college camp I know of that takes 5th graders. Now I understand 8)

The real question is what would hscoach set the line at for a seven on seven game between Hiram College and seven random fifth graders.

(I took a karma hit but I'm still happy to have typed what I typed.  This gives me some hope that there really might be a Hiram fan lurking.  It's like a Bigfoot sighting only less likely.)

Having spent 4 years watching Hiram "play" football I can say that if the 5th graders are favored by less than 21 - it would be shocking.

Former Capital player and coach Travis Everhart is on staff at Hiram.  I believe he is the offensive coordinator.

Vegas wouldn't touch that one.  And Vegas has a line for almost everything......
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

And speaking of the Pick-Em's for this year, I had a crazy thought last season about weighting the in-conference games as 2 points and the National games as 1 point.

Any thoughts on whether that's worth considering?

hscoach,

I like the idea but maybe switch the points value. We would tend to know our own conference better so the bonus points should come from knowing the other guys teams .....just a thought.....and an attempt to get to page 700!!!!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

E lee,
I saw that too.  I'm sure it is a good career move for Travis to become a coordinator, but at HIRAM?  I might have to send him an email and see where his head is.

hscoach,
I like the idea of points, but I agree with raiderguy... and it pains me to say it, since I miss most often on the National games.

I'm all for weighting games; especially since I did so well in the NCAC pick 'ems last year as opposed to my own league.

Hmmmm, that's exactly the opposite response from what I was expecting.  I figured everyone would want more weight on the OAC games since this is the OAC page.

I had also kicked around the idea of placing a weighted point system based on the confidence of the particular picker.  Something along the lines of each participant ranks the games in order of how he wants them weigthed.  Which would put more emphasis on me setting reasonable spreads and each of you to then determine which games you feel the most comfortable with.

For example, if this weeks games were as follows:
Mount vs Berg (+54.5)
JCU vs Capital (even)
BW vs Wilma (+28.5)
Marietta vs Musky (+6.5)
ONU vs Otterbein (+14.5)
Whitewater vs MHB (+9.5)

Then the picker would then post his picks on his own "confidence ranking" from low-to-high:
1 = Otterbein
2 = Berg
3 = Marietta
4 = MHB
5 = Wilma
6 = Capital

Which then means the picker thinks the Cap/JCU game is a lock for Capital and wants that game to be worth 6 points, but he's unsure about the Otterbein/ONU game and wants that to be only worth 1 point.

I think this version is my favorite, but it would put a HUGE emphasis on everyone posting their picks in the same way to make the data entry manageable.

HScoach your wife called, she says you need to get a job!

reality check

Maybe a high-tech, fancy pants system like that could work in the intellectually savy NCAC pick 'ems but I think you have to be happy just to get coherent responses from contestants in the OAC Pick 'Em (myself included).

I think your idea is a good one but I think you'll end up having lots of headaches.  And I agree with what Ric said regardng you needing something to pass your time like a job.

I like the confidence ranking.  But will that make more work for who ever is in charge of the Pick Ems?

JK,

Everhart left the offensive coordinator position at a juco in Raleigh, NC in December.  So this isn't his first time as an OC.  I do know that the juco he left has a reputation for not much money to give kids in aid form and for coaching salaries.
