So I was checking up on Muskingum football...

(I know, it sounds like the opening line to a joke but it's not.)

And I was quite shocked to read that they had at least ten players on their roster last season from Florida.  I wonder what their pipeline is exactly.  I wonder if the change in coaches will help or hurt their efforts in the sunshine state?!?  What would possess some hs kid from Florida to come to Musky to play college ball?

PS on Derek Stanley signing with the Rams:
Following other NFL contract negotiations, it seems a significant item is the part that's guaranteed.  For Stanley, the most likely only guarantee is the $27,900.  The rest requires that he make the team each summer in camp.  Of course, he will be paid for every week he works.

I'll be interested to see what the Browns end up guaranteeing Thomas and Quinn.

Darn good question!

Back in 1999 when MUC tied the Oklahoma win streak at Heidelberg, we made the trip to lovely Tiffin.  Anyway, as we set in the rain during halftime I went thru the Berg roster and saw a handful of guys from Florida and thought the exact same thing.  What in the world would posess someone to leave Florida for Tiffin Ohio?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Some of us in the MIAA said the same thing about Olivet  ??? 6-8 years ago when they heavily recruited and had several Florida players on their roster (BTW, they were very good fb players, though)!

Non-scholarship football players in Florida have to go somewhere. There's no D-III schools in the state.

I understand "somewhere".  But Muskingum is smack dab in the middle of "nowhere".

And yes a former resident of the metropolis that is Ada just called New Concord, Ohio "nowhere".

Saw the article on the former Hanover QB doing well and I hope another Louisville Fire player can follow in the same footsteps.  Former Polar Bear Rusty Midlam leads the Fire in tackles and has 2 INT's (1 for TD).  Perhaps he can find himself along side former Otterbein Cardinal, Micheaux Robinson down in Orlando as an all-OAC defensive backfield next year for the Predators.

Some of the "older" Raiders here may remember Eric Parks.  Eric threw the shot on Mount's Track Team, which he did in spite of the fact that he was blind.  I am sad to report that he passed away last Friday at the age of 58.

Eric was an amazing individual who counted Woody Hayes among his friends and admirers.  He did not have his sight but he had great vision.

RIP Eric Parks.  I well remember him walking around campus with his dog and cane.   He didn't let blindness stop him.  You had to admire the guy.

Eric was on my floor my freshman year and of course we "ran" track together. He was an inspiration for not using his disablity as a crutch or an excuse. I'm terribly sad to hear of his passing.

Raiderguy-Thanks for the offer but I'm not coming back that way. I'm going to a Rockies game tomorrow night and then going "home" to Omaha for a reunion.

Reality-On the occaision of standing at Four Corners at the junction of Arizona, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico yesterday I reflected on your signature: "It's a dry heat." Yea, sort of like putting a fan on the oven door.

And I  smiled as I passed the Red Mesa Redskins football field. Totally politically correct as it's a Navajo high school

Seventies

We went to see a comedian a couple weeks ago and he likened living in Arizona in the summertime to opening the oven to check on the Thanksgiving turkey and feeling that rush of heat on your face from the oven....and then you get in.

He pretty much nailed it.

I'm thinking you didn't get the full effect in the Four Corners area though.  It was 117 yesterday in the valley.  "Dry heat".

Prayers to the Parks family on Eric's passing. He was an amazing kid.

Happy Fourth of July to all in  OAC Land. Don't blow anything up you need. ;D

Seventies,
Home to Omaha....I can smell the steaks a sizzlin'....travel safe.
Hope your feelings are "MUTUAL".

not that i am that familiar with it, but there are 4 E8ers on there.  Kramer and Fortune (SJF), Crea (wick) and Miller (AU)

From the E8 Page.  4 MTU players listed (Garcon & Kmic on the 1st team and Safran and Wilson on the 2nd team).

We all know how pre-season polls/rankings are anything but scientific (especially an AA Team from a source I'm unfamiliar with) but I wonder how Kostelnik misses the cut since his backfield mate did (Wilson).  Interesting decision.  But as I said, "inexact science".

Pat

Any timeline for preseason teams/rankings?  Thanks.
