Frosh QB from the left coast

DIVISION III

Nick Gauthier (Saugus)

Mount Union Purple Raiders

Of the incoming college football freshman, Saugus' Nick Gauthier joins, arguably, the most historically successful program.

Division III Mount Union has won nine National Championships, including two straight and eight of the last 10.

Gauthier will battle for backup duties as junior quarterback Greg Micheli has already been tabbed as the Purple Raiders' starter this fall. Micheli split time at quarterback last fall. Gauthier will fight for No. 2 on the depth chart with Kurt Rocco, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound sophomore from Cincinnati.

Thanks, 70's,
He must be serious coming all that way to play for Mount.  (I hope he's eating and hitting the weights to bulk up on 6'-6" 200 lb frame.)

Here's a pic when he was 6'-3" 182 lb:

I think ya misread runyr.

The kid from Cali is 6'3", 182.  The other QB competing for the backup spot is the Cincy kid that is 6'6", 200.

I did a double take when I clicked the link to his photo though.  The headline reads, "Centurions Open '06 With Reality Check".  I didn't recall opening the 2006 season against them.   ;D

That I did.  Thanks, for pointing it out, RC.  The article headline with your name in it could be some kind of omen!  ::)

Just found this and even though it's not DIII, it's one of the trickiest trick plays I've ever seen.  I guess the center snapped on a silent count and the line didn't fire off so the defense just stood there and watched...

Mr. Ypsi

Now THAT'S a trick play!  (I especially liked the title: a trick so dirty not even the Little Giants tried it.  Was this a DePauw website?!)

Yeah super-sneaky and it should come as no surprise that this peewee team comes from that state up North.   ;)

Aw, you're just jealous that some Buckeye didn't think of it! ;D

Kurt Rocco is from my alma mater Roger Bacon. I tried to get Cap to recruit him when he was a senior. Big strong kid with a big strong arm. He just had trouble reading defenses and waited to long to throw the ball. I'm sure he'll improve though.

I look forward to this because it means the season is just around the corner.

Also, we get a chance to see which team Coach Kehres will cast his vote.

Can you name the most recent year that Mount was not the unanimous choice of 'non-Mount Union' coaches to win it all?

As 70's points out, Kehres cannot vote for MU.

D3poster- Could you decode that post? If you don't vote for your own team, it's hard to remember a unanimous choice. :P

Thanks for the clarifcation.

I saw on Cap's homepage that their football players report at the end of the week.  When does camp open up for everyone's schools?

I also noticed that CAP plays a 9 game JV schedule against almost entirely OAC schools (Except Ohio Dominican and Ashland).  I didn't realize some of theother OAC schools fielded JV teams.  Does anyone know if Musky, Etta, OTT play full JV schedules?

I know that ONU appealed to me in part because they guaranteed freshmen a chance to play in 8-10 collegiate games in their first year.  I don't know if the team still sticks to only freshmen competing but I think it's a great draw and something that helps to prep a lot of young guys for college ball in their upper class years.  Are any of the other JC programs strictly freshmen or what?

Every OAC team has some JV games scheduled this year.  All but Musky and 'berg have the schedules on their sites, usually under the V sched..  JCU's lists 11 games!!!

I found this on Ric's site and thought I'd share it before someone asked:

The yearly preseason scrimmage against W&J will be played at
Mount Union Stadium for the second straight year. The game is set for
Saturday, August 25, 2007, with a 10 AM start time.
W&J finished last season with a 10-2 record, and was ranked #18 in
the D3Football.com final poll after losing to Mary Hardin Baylor in the
second round of the playoffs.

A lot of us will have been out late at the first high school game of the year the night before. Should be a great weekend.

Does anyone know when the OAC Media day is scheduled?

RC - ONU's JV squad is all freshman. There were a handful of freshman pulled up to varsity last year, but those were mainly special teams players that were hand picked to play in key spots. All lettered on varsity; Heaphy the kicker/punter was the lone freshman that started. I agree, having a JV program is a great thing for most as it gives them a chance to play instead of just standing on the sidelines and watching. I'm sure it also keeps kids in the program that would otherwise have lost interested because they didn't get a chance to play.

ONU doesn't report until next week. That seesm later than the average to me. Is that an OAC thing or a Dean Paul thing? Several of my son's friends have already left to report to some other D2 and D3 schools as well as other OAC schools. Just curious.
One game at a time!!!
