Assman? Ya gotta be kiddin' me, right? It has to be made up...it just can't exist!  :o

August 25th at 10am - Mount scrimmage at Mount Stadium vs. W & J. Let the fun begin!

For the record it's pronounced Azz-man.  I asked prior to the regular season game last year and it was the best decision I made that day.  I didn't think he would play but he did and I would have sounded awful stupid calling him Assman, ala Kozmo Kramer.

Anyone know about the ONU freshman class? I'm curious to see what to expect coming in. I heard they are focusing more on quality, rather than quantity, so numbers will be down. That be actually be a good thing.

Of course, nothing is certain until camp begins and those first tuition checks are deposited but...

ONU's new football players should include no less than:
79 freshmen
2 transfers (OL and RB)
15 out of staters (6 coming from Florida)

Still don't understand this...I'm from southern Ohio and it's too cold for me in Ada...let alone from southern Florida!

They're from Florida.  They think that they can whoop some opponents in Ohio!

Trust me there are a lot of areas in Florida that would make Ada look exciting.

Ever been to Yamasee Florida? Belle Glade? Pahokee?

These places make Hiram look exciting :P Well, maybe not

Here's hoping he spends a lot time on his Azz against the Raiders 8)

Man, here comes three years of "azz" jokes

So that's how we avoid sounding like an AZZ, we play the phoneme game with his name.  The only difference between the /s/ and /z/ phoneme is that one is voiced /z/ and one is not /s/.  Assuming the vowel remains unaffected by this clever maneuver, that has /ah/ plus voiced /z/, he is a horse of a difference color.  He must follow the yellow brick road. Or perhaps is related to Donny and Marie.  Of course you can replace the schwa vowel /@/ with the /a/ sound as in apple.  Then you have  AZZ you like it or AZZ your friend    The  phoneme game has saved the day for broadcasters and sports writers.

Glad we cleared that up   ::)

Out of all players in OAC, here we are discussing a guy because of his name, which to most would seem a liability.  In the classic tradition of being dealt a lemon and turning it into lemonade, read what one guy was able to accomplish with the same name:

As an ex-center, I'm not sure I'd be real happy with my QB being an assman.

Which reminds me of one of my favorite football memories.  Seeing our right guard jump out of his skin (and his stance) when the QB lined up behind him.  The refs and both teams were laughing so hard it took quite awhile to mark off the illegal procedure penalty.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Can somebody local in Alliance give the rest of us an idea what the camp schedule might be. I've only got a handful of days before school starts and I love to take in a few sessions.

Slow day and just to get us off the bottom of the list....

Neat story on ESPN.com mainpage about the Chiefs "roughing it" at UW-River Falls.  Not really much on the D-III school but neat to read about their trek way up to dairyland and stepping into a smaller world on the UW-RF campus.

I watched the first episode of Hard Knocks on HBO.  Again, they are following the Chiefs though training camp.  The second episode is on tonight, I believe.  Anyway, they made it seem like UW-RF is second rate and couldn't believe the team would go there to train.  Every single player complained about his room or in some way about the accomodations, like having to walk up stairs with no elevator in the building, or having the practice field a mile away from the dorm (though the team does provide a shuttle and bicycles for the players use).  Simply amazing.  The rooms looked like any typical dorm room I have ever seen, two beds, two closets, two desks.  Anything a normal college kid (or athlete below the DI level) would have if they chose to live on campus.  The players don't even have roomates.  The team employs maids to come in and change the sheets (wish I would have had THAT as a college kid).  Even the rookies were complaining (except, I would presume Michael Allen, but he didn't appear in the first show).

I guess it just shows how deep the sense of entitlement runs at the higher level.  I would guess that very few of the guys on the Chiefs ever had to live that way in college.
