It's not 1960 anymore, why should teams practice like it is?

To make all us bitter, not-multi-million-dollar-making shmucks feel a little better that they have to sleep on a dorm mattress and listen to a window AC unit as they fall asleep to the sounds and sights of their 50 inch plasma flatscreen for a couple weeks in the preseason.  We went through the same experience, minus the 50-inch flatscreen, and I think we are better for it.

I do think that there is a degree of team bonding that goes on at an NFL training camp...but really, do we need these athletes (who already only a one month off-season if that) to have life a little tough to make us feel better about ourselves?  Would you stop watching the games, going to games, buying merchandise...etc, etc, etc if these guys didn't have to eat some dorm food?

Good to argue with you again.   ;)

Oh, and does Daewoo still make cars?  I thought they went under.

According to the ESPN.com article, it was the dorm food that sealed the deal in the first place.  UWRF's pitch to the Chiefs was rooted in their food services.

With most teams already in summer camp, it's time to remind everyone that the OAC Pick-Em's are gearing up for the season too.  The pre-season pick-em work is tough.  Very tough.  Especially at my advanced age.  Sifting thru the Week 1 schedule without my eye glasses is not easy..........

Proof that there are still women out there who just don't get it, and guys who are afraid to stand up to them.  :D

Good luck to the Pioneers.

When I become Supreme Ruler, the first thing I'm going to do is outlaw weddings on Saturdays in the summer and fall.  Nothing worse than a dumb wedding (especially your own) in the middle of what little good weather we get in Ohio or on fall Saturdays due to college football games.

Or Thursday nights - ESPN college games

Or Sunday afternoons - NFL games

Or Friday nights - high school games

On 2nd thought, weddings will only be allowed via on-line video conference on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 just in case someone has a tee time they don't want to miss.

You're telling me, fellas!

Plus, this wedding is also cutting into my Labor Day weekend.  Duff is not a happy camper >:(

For the Mount Union fans,

What is the average temp and humidity in Alliance around the 1st of Sept. This 99 degree stuff here in Virginia with 100% Humidity is worst than Phoenix ever dared to be. I would love to see snow right now.

skunks_sidekick

Hmmmm......let's see.....either 85 degrees with 93% humidity....orrrr.....61 degrees and raining cats and dogs......orrrr......a beautiful early fall day that tops off at around 75 degrees with a light breeze.....YOU PICK!   ;D

It's Northeast Ohio.......you NEVER know what you will get, but I think it has been rather warm the last few years in early September.

HScoach

Skunks has it right.  If you don't like the weather in Ohio, wait a day and it will change.

If you're planning on the trip for the opener, I'd suggest being prepared for anything between 60 and rain to 90 and sunny.   Regardless of what the weather forecast says when you leave VA.

I know there's been a little talk about the Chiefs on HBO and Whitworth's Michael Allan's role in that camp.  I'm watching the game between the Chiefs and Dolphins and KC GM Carl Pederson is practically falling over himself to talk about Allan.  Allan had two receptions on the first TD drive and each time, Pederson made sure to state the fact that Allan was from DIII and a seventh round pick.  I think Pederson likes this guy if nothing else.

Interesting facts about OAC found in the 2007 media guide history section:

OAC is third oldest intercollegiate athletic conference in America and second oldest continuous conference not allowing payment to student-athletes for athletic skills.

OAC is older than NCAA and MLB World Series.

Amateur regulation borne in OAC is still cornerstone of NCAA Division III amateurism.

None of the six original charter members of the conference remain today.

31 schools have been members of OAC.

Mount Union is the oldest continuous conference member.

OAC athletic staffs may not recruit student-athletes in student's home.

Were Raider66 still with us he would argue (loudly I might add) that Ohio State has never withdrawn from the OAC and is the oldest continuous member. I always felt it was a rather pointless argument, but that never stopped him in the 58 years he was my older brother. :)
