GGB is correct.

ONU media guide has conflicting info....maybe a Polar Bear can explain the discrepancy.

pg 2 claims an 8-2 record at DR
pg 13 claims an 11-4 record at DR

There are a handful of mistakes in this year's media guide.  It appears that page 2 is reflective of where the Polar Bears were at the start of the 2006 season while page 13 reflects the three year totals.  The Polar Bears went 3-2 at home last year.  The 4 losses break down with one loss each to Mount Union and Marietta and two losses to Capital.

You're talking about one of the friendliest tailgating crowds around IMO.  I'm sure they'll let you tailgate in peace if you want it but MUC fans are professional tailgaters because they get to practice it almost yearly down in Salem.

Yet we're rookies compared to Bridgewater and Stone Station ;)

Tailgating takes place in the parking lot just west of the stadium. It's a fun bunch, although we should warn you well in advance that many of our fans that we are less than proud of chose to sit in the section next to the visitor seats. Ignore them, they are often just dumb.

Raider Fans,

Is this parking lot numbered or have any identification on it. Or will there be security there that can help locate?

http://www.muc.edu/your_site/visitors/about_mount/interactive_campus_map/west

Follow the link to the map.  It's the parking lot next to the stadium, right under the number 5.  Yes there will be security to give you directions.

You're the only one from Averett asking.  Is anyone else coming? ;)

To be honest, I don't have a clue. I certainly would hope they show up. We do have a little trouble drawing a crowd, especially for away games. It will mostly be just parents I assume. I can only speak for the past two seasons, but Averett was lucky to have over 1000 fans at their home game. If it weren't for the visitors it would be a ghost town.

The other thing is only a handful will tailgate even at home games. Seems tailgating hasn't caught on yet. I got my experience at UVA and VA. Tech games and thats almost like going to a NASCAR race. The place is full of tailgaters. Hopefully it will catch on and if Averett continues to be successful maybe they can draw more support. Finally, I have only seen two other people on this site from Averett the past two years. So go figure.

The opening week of games (and spreads) has been posted for the 2007 OAC Pick-Em contest.  As always, this is open to anyone.  Whether you're a regular of the OAC page or not.

We pick all the OAC games, plus a few national games of interest between ranked teams.  OAC games are worth 2 points, national and non-conference games are worth 1 point.   Please post your picks on the OAC page in the General Football Forum.

The last few years we've had 30+ folks playing and had a blast doing so.  Please join us!

Before I post the opening games, let me say congratulations to the winners from 2006:

Regular Season Pick-Em:
1st place = SMEDINDY
2nd place = CHESS4ME
3rd place = RUNYR

Playoff Pick-Em:
1st place = CRUSADER26
2nd place tie = KIRASDAD and RUNYR

I'll post the games and spreads here this week to get the word out.

Week 1 - September 1st:

WOOSTER (+12.5) at JOHN CARROLL

AVERETT (+54.5) at MOUNT UNION

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH at WILMINGTON (+24.5)

MARIETTA (+35.5) at ST. JOHN'S

CAPITAL at WITTENBERG (+20.5)

MUSKINGUM (+23.5) at WAYNESBURG

UW–LA CROSSE at HARDIN-SIMMONS (+9.5)

ROWAN at CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT (+4.5)
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Anyone know if Capital has a home scrimmage on Saturday?

Not sure who many of you have read the D3 Preview, but there is a statement from Kehres that made me happy.  Very happy.

“Well, I’m too young to think about retiring. I’m not that old yet. I’ll still be coaching for a number of years.”

Thanks to the playoff system in Division III and modern schedules, Larry is an odds on bet to get to 300 victories faster than any coach in NCAA history. (It took Amos Alonzo Stagg 55 years, Larry could get there in 25 years)

Couple of articles about MTU's SID Michael DeMatteis and here.

Mike's one of the best we run into, especially on game day since they gave him the tools to really be successful. Also, I rarely have to ask about any piece of Mount Union info since it's all already been compiled and is available on the web. That's always nice.

The stories were a little weird, I thought it would be more about what the three guys do that no one knows about instead of a how-they-got-there. And they should've gotten a picture of Mike working or something, him holding the helmet, expressionless, just didn't do him justice  :D

The 'learn english' sidebar was really interesting though.

Mike is a true professional and really deserves great praise. I'm am amazed at the articles that show up on Muc.edu before I can get home from a game, while many D3 schools have a lot of poorly written, out of date stuff on their sites.

Yeah. Part of it is about keeping up with the demand, since Mount Union will have interest from Akron and the Plain-Dealer, as well as Canton and Alliance, and occasionally something crazy like the New York Times. Plus they deal with ESPN and local cable access camera crews, and wacky all-football websites.

I don't feel treated any differently there, and some places you honestly do.

Also, anyone who could get the game-day setup with computer stats and TV replays, I'd advise that. MUC deserved it, anyone who was in the old press box would tell you.

Ahhh...pick-ems, the most fun you can have on these boards with your clothes on!  ::)

hscoach,
Thanks in advance for all your efforts.

Averett +54.5 against MTU:
This young team has all my respect just for showing up.  It'll be a learning experience they never forget.  I hope they beat the spread.

Yeah I love the fact that we aren't even into week one and I'm sitting squarely on the fence as to with or against the spread.  That usually doesn't happen until at least week 3 or so.  Pick Em's is already kicking my butt.  Thanks hscoach.

I am confident that the Averett players and coaches appreciate your respect and thank you for that comment.

It was Coach Dunlevy's mission last year to make sure that if his players wanted to be the best, then they had to learn how to play with the best as well as see how the best looked. Everyone thought he had lost his mind, and after they got their butts handed to them on a silver platter we were all concerned how the players would react to that kind of butt kicking on the first day of the season. My son informed me that the team took what they learned and turned it all into positive things. They followed up the following week by playing Wesley and giving them a game for the most part and after that they run off victory after victory. They ended up sharing the conference title with Christopher Newport.

What I am trying to say is you are correct....it was a learning experience last year and they capitalized on it and hopefully they will learn even more this year. They know what they are in for, right now they want to prove to themselves that they can do better than last year. Hopefully they will beat the spread, if not so what; they go back to Virginia, take what they learn in Alliance and move forward. The experience alone of playing in Alliance against the number one team in the country is exciting in itself for them.

I thought that once you started playing, you had X number of semesters to use up your eligibility?  Something like 10 semesters to use 4 years of eligibility.
