What a tough, tough day for Averett.  I hope they can bounce back.
12-0 = 13

reality check

Immediate thoughts:

Mount:  Yeah, they're okay.   ::)

Etta: The post-Vrable era begins with 42% completions for 161 and 3 INT's...and when you only get .7 yards per rush attempt it means a long day is in store.  Looks like kickoff coverage is a bit suspect too.  But kudos to them for scheduling the Johnnies and playing a great opening team.

Wilma: played tough against MSJ.  Marc Otte debuts and has a great showing rushing for 94 yards on 16 carries (5.9 YPC).  MSJ scored the final ten points in the 4th to secure the victory.

Musky: 49 pass attempts....and Musky gets a 100 yard receiver (Grafton) for the first time since at least 2003.  Last year's starting QB (Nash) was outplayed by soph QB Holbert...the times they are a changing with the rediscovery of the forward pass but they gave up 4 TD's and 240 yards to Waynesburg's RB.

JCU: Impressive effort from what I've seen/heard but the JCU website seems to be down or awaiting updates and Wooster has yet to update their site.  I read that the Wooster broadcast sounded like a funeral on the NCAC page.

We had the "Easy Button" today. I can't imagine what those players felt like after the first 10 minutes of the game.

Thanks Hammer and crew!!

What offense is Musky running this year? It seems that their o has been changing year to year. Can anyone help me out? Thanks...

gotta respect Averette for hanging in there...they did not ask to run game clock non stop in the second half like Marietta did a few years back...
most interesting thing to me is how many frosh/sophs got on the field and performed very well for MUC...
Averette definitely down from last year, however, Mount is downright scary...team is as powerful, balanced, and dynamic as I have ever seen on offense, and the defense was a monster...I dont see how anyone will be able to score enough to beat Mount...you probably will have to score 35 to have a chance..
they are freaky good..

met some great Averette folks, hope the trip home was a safe one and good luck to Cougars the rest of the season...

Monty blew out Ferrum...anybody got details??

TC

Had a chance to meet kcreds at the SJU/Marietta game, seemed like a nice guy--and his son recovered a blocked punt in the 4th Qtr.  Good to see after the kid got moved from Safety to Tight End a week before the season.

Needless to say, Marietta brought slightly less than advertised.  St. John's came out of the gates firing on both sides of the ball.  I'll be interested to see where Marietta goes from here--it they're a legitimate middle-tier OAC the Johnnies might have put together a pretty nice little squad this year.

Of course, after seeing the dirty, awful, hateful things that Mt. Union did to Averett it might not matter...

runyr,

hopefully you didn't put a hole in that Sony TV of yours watching the Irish..I'm a big fan, but wow...I was embarrassed.  Worst openning game loss in their history is what I'm hearing now..

reality,

saw Ringer played well today early on.. saw Wilma last weekend in a scrimmage with Thomas More... Quakers are undersized but play hard.  Teams will need to stop the bubble screen (ran it like 15 times in a game) and they'll be fine.

didn't someone say there was some bulletin board material from this message board that AC was going to use against MUC?   Sounds like the Purple Raiders are picking up RIGHT where they left off

I can't wait to see what the Student Princes do next week, I"m a big fan of Mike Hallett.  They'll play hard...

This board is busy with new posters from teams that usually don't have a voice...nice to see.  Hopefully they stick around even after the losing begins.

Everyone have a SAFE Labor Day weekend.

Meeechagan lost to a IAA school.  What a D-- shame!

AU fumbled 4 times inside it's own 20 in the first quarter.  Plus a variety of other mistakes esp. on kickoffs.  They must have dropped 4 or 5 of them.   This was a hard game to watch for both sides.  Coach LK was kicking field goals in the second quarter.     I guess the COW coach won't be scheduling JCU anymore since he doesn't like to get his butt kicked.

Witt's website has Capital victorious 13-0 in Springfield.  No other details yet.

MUC was running accross the ticker on the Tennessee/Cal first half for their NCAA record first quarter scoring...

Congrats to the Raiders.  I think we're in trouble (the rest of the OAC).

Wow to Mount Union... you were even on the ESPN bottomline...

Also, kudos for not running up the score (And I'm being serious)...the score could have been over 100!!

And MUC made CBS Sportline's 3rd headline (behind Appalacian State and VaTech).
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

What happened to the db from last year, Jonah Wilson? I thought he was just a junior last year. Is he on the team? Not that MUC would miss any one player.

MountFan08

nike,

Wilson was out with a leg injury today, but he is expected to play in two weeks against Otterbein.  Should be interesting to see how playing time is divided between him Daryl Ely and Cameron Rose who is back after missing all of last season with an injury.
The impossible CAN happen and eventually it WILL happen.

Pretty sure we'll miss Kmic and Garcon, but yeah, it's college football and everyone is replaced eventually(Rocky) :o

My apologies for totally misjudging Marietta, or maybe, just maybe the Johnnies are that good this year. :P
