Purpled - work has been crazy and I'm having audio record problems with the laptop so I just haven't gotten to them. Thx for looking for them!

Here is my preview for the Otterbein vs. Marietta game. Both teams are off to similar starts with no wins and almost identical stats, yes hscoach and Ric, I mentioned stats. There is not an obvious favorite here so I will resort to stats and mention some underlying factors. Here are my important stats: Both teams have given up and scored about the same amount of points. They have rushed about the same but OTT has given up 65 more rushing yards. They both have about the same in passing yards but OTT has given up 234 more yards. OTT has the advantage in KO yards allowed and KOR yards. Punting averages are about the same. ETTA is -7 in turnovers with none forced and OTT is -2 with 1 forced. Time of possession and sacks are also about the same. Both teams haven't made a field goal yet. It appears that ETTA has the advantage on defense, can you believe that, and OTT has a slight advantage on special teams. Both offenses have had little success. Now the underlying factors: ETTA has had slightly tougher competition with both games on the road, they have played before a little less than 14,015 hostile fans, they are now at home, the game will be televised locally, they are calling it the River City Bowl, they upset BW in their first home game last year, and OTT stole the win last year. With all things considered, ETTA should have the advantage and win a close one. hscoach and Ric, are you impressed?

-7?! Yikes. Even if they're not very good, I can't see that keeping up forever. Is Hughes still out?

Unfortunately the NFL is about entertainment first. Living down here in Cincinnati...Chad Johnson gets AS MUCH media attention for his off-the-field antics as his on field performance.

Personally, I don't like the pre-meditation aspect of celebrations.  Chad's HOF Jacket routine totally bombed in my estimation.

I think they should have pulled Johnson into the stands and given him a proper Dawg Pound welcome.

Spence,

Did you see the pregame shots of Johnson going into the dawg pound and them showing him love?  I never thought I'd see that...

Section 13,,,If you remember the MHB game,,the D had gotten the ball back ,,then the O had a shotgun snap hit the motion man in the leg to give the ball back to MHB. And yes , the ball was in the air along time,,but for a first down,,it would not have been thrown,,and the rowan game,,Rowan scored 24 points in all previous games,,and we still won,,,, maybe the O was off that day ,,Also,Monty was the D coach for 7 championships,,. I like the stunt, blitz d too that we now play,,but please show respect for championships 1-7,,

It must be a nice problem to have when you're being kept up at night over two lost games in over a decade.  Oh the poor, poor Raiders...

And since it's so traumatic for you, don't forget you also lost to St John's.   :o ;D :o

Finally!  Some one who understands our dilemma and gives us some well deserved sympathy.  Thanks RC!  ::)

Purple......easy up there man!

When I compare years, etc...I am only looking at the big games and play-offs.  And my observations weren't based on some intense, thought-over statistical analysis of every play that happened in any given year.  A few have mentioned some of the games that stick in my mind.  Rowan, MHB, St. John's, JCU, Augustana, etc.....

In no way was I "disrespecting" any championship.  And although I refuse to go "look it up", I bet that the defensive statistics over the last two years are much better than any previous years that ended in a championship.

And again......I like the attacking, make something happen defense that Mount plays now vs. the read and react they played previously.

It's all good though!   ;)

Toph

hscoach-

I aim to please.

I wish I could make it out to the ONU/JCU game this weekend, but it ain't happening.  I'll settle on Mount/Muskie instead.  Keep the updates coming.

formerraider

I hope the person talking about Mount's defense under Monty was joking!  It's hard to fault the kind of numbers their defense put up year after year!  You may like one style of defense more than another, but that doesn't make it a bad defense.  If you will notice the offense over the years has changed and evolved to fit it's personnel.  I imagine the defense has changed partly because of the athletes the program gets now.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I didnt list St Johns because I felt good about their win. They simply outplayed MUC for a myriad of reasons....but they were the better team that day in my mind, so no lost sleep over that one.

However, MHB won on a play with NO rush whatsoever, when the previous play the QB was sacked because the O line wasnt up to the task any longer IMHO. That backup QB had all day to let the recievers get into the end zone and find a hole in the coverage. And they did just that. The heat of just one rusher would have changed all that IMHO. Hence the insomnia.

Likewise with Rowan. Our reciever had the ball on his hands in the end zone. The D back did what he could at that point....racked up the reciever. Ball dropped....game over.  Props to the Profs. It could have ended the other way though.

All the lost sleep over those plays dont amount to much. Now if one were to replay all the GREAT PLAYS since the early 90's that I witnessed, I wouldnt be awake much. It would make a guy want to keep dreaming.  Call it ....Raider Induced Sleeping Syndrome. Symptoms include long periods of sleep with a grin present. :D

I haven't been on in awhile but when I checked in tonight the most recent message is 8-17 and I know that can not be right.  Has there been a change to the board where I have to go somewhere else to get new messages.

Now I feel real dumb, I was going backwards starting at the highest page number first.  I guess I am too tired to be doing this and should be going to bed.

I dropped my MUC season tickets this year.  I hated too but the cost of gas at $3 a gallon and a trip in excess of 250 miles roundrip to see a game just did not seem the best of ideas anymore.  I will have to settle for the games in Columbus when MUC plays either Otterbein or Capital at home.
