The last time I saw MHB was at Mt. for a playoff game .  Their defensive front looked like the Browns.

HMMMM.........is that meant as an insult or a compliment?

Hey Ric,

Did you get my emails on Sunday?

Fred, no I didn't, can you resend?

I have to give credit to Cap's new QB Bartholomew....he is a coaches son who transfers from ODC expecting to start.  He gets beat out by Assmann but continues to work hard, stays positive and now he is the QB for the #6 team in the county.

JK...not only is Stark's the best cover corner in the league, but every game he delivers a monster hit.

CU vs ONU
Whoever wins the field position battle will win this game.  Meadows has been very good against Cap, but this years defense is special.  Hopefully Cap D can contain him and give the offense a short field to work with.

I didn't know they had 6 college teams in the county!  ;D

Hi OAC ers everwhere!

Just checking in to see what's shaking.

My PeeWees finally not only scored a few touchdowns in the last few weeks, but they WON their first game last Saturday.  I think they felt some Heidi magic or something.   ;D  Two more weekends, and then I am free to finally start attending Mount games.

Questions.......

Will Mount be challenged in the regular season?
Can Mary Harden Baylor, SJU, Whitewater challenge Mount in the play-offs?
Is this year's team really this good?

Nothing would make me happier than to see Mount have to go through SJU, and then MHB to win another Stagg.  Those are the two losses that Mount hasn't had a chance to avenge as of yet.

Skunk and I are contemplating a trip to the CAP game on the 27th.  Will many Mount fans make the trip?

Final question........how do you make big, slow, unaggressive kids fast and maniacs before Saturday?  Oh....and what's a fool-proof touchdown play to use when you don't have a line that can block well, but a decent receiver and QB?   ;D

How aboot an OAC Statistical Spotlight?!?

Greg Micheli is the only QB in the top 50 if Division III in Pass Efficiency with no interceptions on the season.

MUC K Mike Zimmerman ranks seventh in the country in scoring.  The next closest kicker in scoring is 33 spots behind Zimmerman and that kicker is CAP K Matt Spitz.

JCU DL Ken Bevington leads Division III in solo tackles for loss.  He's half a tackle for loss off the mark for total tackles for loss.

MUC and CAP are 1,2 in team defense in the NCAA.  Their numbers are nearly identical (299 total plays, 301 total plays, 122 YPG, 127 YPG) and the third best team is 50 yards off the pace these two are setting.

CAP and ONU are 2 and 3 respectively in team sacks on the season nationally.

Mount's only punted five times and none were returned so they're giving up 0.0 yards per punt return but they've got work to do to catch up with Tufts who is giving up -2.2 yards per return on the year.

The 27th will be my first weekend without Youth Football and Cross Country. Looking forward to heading down I71 to Bexley. (Kevin's team pulled out their first W Saturday as well 31-7)

Questions.......

1.  Will Mount be challenged in the regular season?
2.  Can Mary Harden Baylor, SJU, Whitewater challenge Mount in the play-offs?
3.  Is this year's team really this good?

Great questions.  There is always the chance of something unforeseen occurring as upsets happen (Stanford over USC) that completely baffle the mind.  Who thought ONU had a legit chance in '05?  I know I didn't.  But putting that aside, here's my 2 cents:

1.  We'll know on Saturday after ONU and Cap are done.  If Capital struggles with the ONU running game or conversely can't handle ONU's front 7, then MUC's not going to be challenged further in the regular season than what ONU already did.  My logic?  MUC's running game is much better than ONU's and MUC's front 7 is every bit as good if not better than ONU's D.

2a.   WWW is a definite "no".  Been there, done that.  Twice.  WWW is not a talented as the previous 2 seasons and MUC is better.  Case closed.

2b.  MHB is an interesting "maybe".  It's been too long since we've seen them to know first hand, but they sure have been impressive this year.  Plus they played WWW very tough last year.  We'll know more once MHB makes the trip north to face WWW.  If MHB is a serious threat to MUC, then they'll beat WWW on the road and stuff the Beaver.

2c.  SJU is somewhere between "no way" and "maybe".  Their production/scores so far indicates no way, but that's what we thought in 2003 too.  So I'm hesitant to write them off too soon.  SJU is very fundamentally sound and doesn't beat themselves.

3.  This team has the POTENTIAL to be that good.  Injuries and/or bad attitudes can derail that potential.  Injuries are always an unknown, but I'm confident that this group won't think their crap doesn't stink like the '03 team did heading to Salem.  Plus this team is more talented at WR and TB as well as having a smarter QB than the '03 team.

Very few teams are truely good enough to never be pushed to the edge or need to get lucky somewhere along the line to win a title.  Even the '97 MUC team almost lost(Allegheny).
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Did I read that right? 1-4 Wilmington received votes in this week's AFCA poll? Someone is kidding right?

Pat Coleman

That was on their press release, yep.

Mount Ida (2-4) and Ohio Wesleyan (1-4) got votes as well.

HSC - I totally agree about the CAP/ONU game.  If CAP can handle them, Mount may be in for a game in Bexley at the end of the month.  If not, I would assume Mount would have a fairly easy/smooth jaunt through the remainder of OAC play.  Well....other than the yearly mystery of B-W always giving Mount's offense problems.

I also agree when you compare this year's team vs. the 2003 team.  This year's teams is leaps and bounds better than the 2003 team at running back, QB, and even WR.  And time will tell, but this may be the best defense Mount has put out there yet.

When I jotted down the possible challengers for Mount, here's the thoughts I had regarding.....

SJU - just seems to have that added "rise up" element when playing Mount in a Stagg Bowl.  In the two previous Staggs they were by far the best tackling team I have seen Mount face.
MHB - could present some problems with their diverse, power running game, and very stingy defense.  I agree that the WW game will give us a clear indication just how good they might be.
WW - seems like the Jones kid might have "found himself" in the LAC game.  It could take them to a new level.  I know the WW people thought their graduated QB was all that, but to be honest I thought he was one of their weak points in the two previous Staggs.  Along with their suspect offense game plan.
SJF - I can't see their QB being able to avoid the Mount rush any better than last year (unless he was on Jenny Craig this summer).

Hey...whatever happened to Kcreds ???  It's ok Kcreds, being blindly loyal to your son's new team (if he is still playing?) is not the worst crime in the world.  COME ON BACK!   ;D

Screen Pass
Not sure if its a fool-proof Touchdown, but it should work.
