a couple notes...

MUC has outscored opponents something like 170-0 in the first quarter this season

Mount Union students do show up for games that they think will be competitive...this week was a good example...they usually  show up strongly  for BW, CAP, JCU, and ONU  I do believe, however, that there is some rancor among the students as they see many of the players as prima-donna types..I believe this is natural on both sides, although I know that LK does not condone that behavior...

I too, believe that our fans are indeed spoiled, and somewhat numb because of the success...I do however, notice the ovations from the "senior side" for the defense when they come off the field after their efforts..

I can't help but admit that I have been thinking of Stone Station the past couple weeks, too..

I did not see Matt Barge on the sidelines and when I asked about it, I was told he hung up the spikes...If this is true. it is a shame as he played very well when he got into games...There are many players at Mount sitting that could be getting PT at many other places...  Say what you want about "hanging in there", but If I were a soph or junior stuck behind Kmic, I may head to a greener playing field...DIII is about playing for the love of it...

I don't play pick ems, however, I would jump all over the points this week...Collins is a very fine coach and I think the Raiders will get a very fine defensive effort thrown at them, especially after the Otter upset

I don't doubt that the Cap D will bring it.  But without an offense, Cap is going to be giving the ball back to MUC alot and in good field position.  Even the best defense won't keep MUC off the board if they get 15+ possessions.

I know that anything is possible and that's why they play the game, but I'm comfortable in thinking that MUC will score enough to cover.  The question is whether Cap can score enough to hang around.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Winning boring? No, winning is fun. Just never take it for granted as on any given day anything can happen. I think we all know this to be true.

I didn't mean to ruffle anyone up, I just wanted to make my main point that MUC is well known and doesn't need to be focused on every week.  My percentages may have been off but it wasn't trying to be exact.

Anyway good luck to the OACers

Sorry to horn in on the OAC board, but I noticed this move on the sport wires a few minutes ago. It didn't look like this has been mentioned yet here.

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

Sorry about Coach Packard,a class guy.His boys certainly had Micheli running in the first half. Those BW senior lineman put up a fight.

Hey Guys,

I know there are plenty of current and former H.S. coaches that post on this site.  I was wondering if anybody out there has coached against Marlington (Alliance, OH) H.S. in 2005 or 2006?  If so, could you please let me know.  I have some questions I'd like to ask you.

Ric

Wow, wasn't Bob Packard at the Mount game Saturday? I was told before the game he was going to be there and I thought I saw him on the field prior to the game? Wow, I am sorry to hear this news.

Ric and colleagues:

Indeed, it is very sad and shocking news, especially if you and others had seen him on Sat Ric.  My thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, BW and OAC friends.  I also had forgotten that it has been 6 years (2001) already since he retired as BW head coach.  On first thought, it hadn't seemed it was that long ago.

As a B-W grad, my thoughts and prayers are with Coach Packard's wife, two children and two grandchildren. They've lost a great husband, dad and grandfather.

How can Mount fans be so complacent about winning?

Well, most of the people on this board can take a look in the mirror.  In the last several pages of posts, I've seen many posters talk about the fact that Mount winning is not big news, or that every knows Mount will win so it is no big deal.  Some say that there are 238 teams and all are equally important.  These are all comments of complacency.

I don't care if you are Mount Union fans.  If you are football fans, this is news.  The lack of interest displayed on this site by the writers or readers is not really any different than that shown at Mount Union stadium.  The winning becomes expected, and therefore not exciting (or news worthy).  Is it right?  No.  Does it happen?  Yes.

Beating Heidelberg or Marietta may not be news, but another win added to the history, unbelievable stats, and incredible individual performances are.  And beyond that, what is happening at MUC will probably never be witnessed again by any of us that are living right now.  Therefore, each win is important and does have a magnitude beyond the win itself.

I spent 5 years in NM, listening to every game I could online and flying home for the Staggs.  I am now back in OH and fighting with my schedule to make every game.  I cheer the plays, the players and the scores.  I take my son out to shake hands with the players after the games, and we slap their pads as they run on the field at halftime.

What is happening here deserves to be cheered, deserves to be celebrated, and is certainly newsworty - more newsworthy than any other story in sports right now.  The stadium should be packed every game.  Every HS coach within a 30 mile radius should take his team to these games to show them the excellence that can be strived for.  Football fans should DVR the Buckeyes and show up to see MUC in person.  History buffs should realize this is history in the making.

So we can say "shame" on the Mount Union fans.  Why not, they're easy to pick on.  But we can also say "shame" on many of the D3 posters and football fans in general.

I personally marvel at the wonder that is playing out before us.  More people should.

And you have to realize that your viewpoint comes from the view of a Mount Union fan.   Sure they are making history every single week, but does Pat have to make it the top story every week?  That was the main issue initially.

Of course not. I think Pat and the crew do a great job of covering all of D3 football. This is really a great web site and I don't know how I'd get by without it.

Dale.....Nice post! I feel the same way.

My sympathies to the Packard family and the BW community. :'(

Dale - I understand the points you are making..but come on man!  I take it you are a Mount grad?

To think that casual football fans, or MUC students who are NOT football fans, or other OAC school football fans, or D-III football fans across the country will/should embrace all that is glorious Mount Union College football is just plain myopic.

Why would/should they care?  Is Mount saving the world by winning all of their football games, and maintaining this amazing run?  NOPE
Is Mount's current amazing success under LK having an effect on what is happening in Middle East?  NOPE

Those are extreme, and somewhat ludicrous examples but I think I make my point.  You are a die-hard Mount fan.  Fantastic!  Wonderful!  It has to be great for you!  I am a solid Mount fan born out of a buddy of mine (Skunk) introducing me to Mount football about 15 years ago.  His brother and LK were teammates and friends "back in the day".  I am not a Mount grad, however, I really enjoy watching what Mount has accomplished over the years.  I have many friends that look at me and say....."now WHY do you follow that little school and go to games?"

We who follow D-III football, and Mount in particular, through the access of this board need to remember we are somewhat living in a bubble.  To the average person out there it's just not that important.

Now that I spent WAY too much time on that.....back to ragging on CAP fans.  HEY CAP FANS........who is someone on this year's CAP team that we can make fun of?   ;D  That darn ASSman has to get hurt or I believe we would have had some fun with him this year.  Any 7th year seniors this year?  Any funny sounding names?   ;D
