I did not see Coach Packard at the game, but I did see Wally Hood, and he and Packard have/had been active  in the Mexico D3 all star game...
Packard will be remembered as exactly what he was... one of the best of all time....

We have been extremely blessed with outstanding coaches to lead our young men in the OAC...I am sure that that goes for other conferences across the nation...
The BW family has lost a great leader, but his legacy will keep Bob Packard in our thoughts and hearts for many many years...

Sorry to hear of the passing of coach Packard.  He was a class act. A role model for many young men.

Very sorry to hear about Coach Packard.  Of course, my condolences to the BW faithful and to his family.  He really was a class guy.

As I have mentioned, and as many of you know, my Dad is a BW alumnus.  Coach Packard, then a Senior QB, helped recruit my Dad and a few years later returned to be his position coach when Dad was a Senior.  When I was a HS Senior, I, of course, considered BW.  Because of that and because of my Dad, I got to know Coach Packard.  He really loved BW and really cared for his players, both on and off the field.  Here is a quote from his retirement speech in 2001:

"My fondest memories will be of the tons of players who became great alumni and great citizens of our country," he added. "There were thousands of young men who gave everything they had in an effort to be successful. I don't remember a one that I didn't really love when everything was said and done."

It's hard to believe, but in 43 seasons through 2001 when Coach Packard retired, BW had TWO coaches.  Lee Tressel took over in 1958 and was succeeded by Coach Packard for the 1981 season.  I know a lot of us poked fun at BW's "streak" of non-losing seasons, but there is one big reason for it: continuity.

Godspeed, Coach.  You will be missed.  BW, the OAC, and those of us who knew you lost a great man.

Check your messages.  If you want to hit a sports bar and connect out here in sunny AZ, left some contact info.

I survived meeting BillyRayJimBob when I lived in CT so I feel that anything is possible.

RC, I just got your message & replied...thanks!!

1. Mount Union "fans" or interest in Mount Union football (media/others etc.) represents more than 1% of the total participation or interest in this site or around D3 football in general.  That is my belief.  Your comment that 99% of the audience does not care or does not follow Mount Union football would be "false" in my opinion.

That is certainly true, but it's not like it's even 10%, I would say.

Plus, remember, we cover NEWS. Mount Union thrashing another opponent isn't particularly new. It's always mentioned on the front page but isn't going to be the lead over more interesting stories, etc.

When do we re-ignite the conversation about a move to DII for Mount?   ;D

I heard Greg Easterbrook was in negotiations to have a barnstorming team of arena leaguers he associates himself with to take on MUC in its opening contests of '10 and '11.

Any truth to that?

skunks_sidekick...as for funny sounding names...after ASSman there's not much to go on...a wide receiver Zag(should've zigged when he zagged?) and a Ruble but the cupboard is pretty bare.

That's only partially correct Reality Check.  During football season the only thing Easterbrook negotiates with is his colon because he's got his head so far up his azz he got a bird's eye view when his prostate ran up the score on his nose last week 98-0 by calling timeout to kick a field goal in the final seconds.

Nice!  Running the score up on one's own nose is tough to do but I like it.

ONU/BW

This should still be a very good game and the heavy hearts of the Jackets (to me) means that they will be playing even harder to get a W for Coach Packard.  I am thankful this game is at Dial Roberson b/c I wouldn't want to come up to the magic carpet for a game the week a legendary coach passes on.  ONU needs to rediscover it's second half magic.  Coach Paul and staff have done a great job at ONU in second half scoring/second half adjustments (historically outscoring opponents about 4-1 in the third quarter alone) but this year they are actually being outscored 65-61 in the second half.  We've got to improve on that to win on Saturday.

I was just wondering how the MHB/UWW game came about.  Are there many games with two teams so far apart geographically? This late in the season? It just seemed suprising to me for two teams ranked as high as they are to play a game out of thier region in week 9.  Do the teams in smaller confrences have trouble scheduling games?
