No wonder 2nd Cap QB goes sown...he looks like he weighs 140 lbs.   Poor kid takes a beatin'

JCU has fallen further, faster than anyone in the league in years...Yesterday, I saw none of the great pride that JCU has displayed in the past...

The rumor about ESPN gameday may have some truth...MUC was believed to be hosting a high school playoff game this weekend, but now there is none scheduled this weekend, so maybe...?  would be fun for all....

I hope the folks that thought that Mount QB could not throw deep ball saw the game or replay on Sportschannel Ohio...He hit Garcon in stride on the first quarter BOMB....

I think that Scott Thomas is a very underrated runner who makes things look easier than they are...Does he play Defense...he has great LB size and speed....

Hope Wheaton still gets in the postseason...a very classy coach and program.....

Collins at Cap, no doubt is the second best coach in league, and a top DIII HC...

St. John's has been the most prepared and well-coached Stagg opponent for MUC...As I have said before their tackling and fundamentals have always been incredibly good...
I have never seen so many successful one on one tackles take down Mount runners....Chuck Moore had at least four or five runs that looked like big ones and was brought down by a single Johnnie....

Jim Denison at Walsh is a fine coach and super individual....I think he would love to play Mount....I think the draw back is Mount refusing to schedule out of division.  If they do and have success, it would just increase the outcry by opponents that Raiders should move from DIII, which will never happen...

where is this rumor about ESPN Gameday coming to Mount at?  any article or something that its on or how did that get started?

Ric

It seems it must have been posted somewhere.  There was something to it, it was being considered, but they have decided to go somewhere else, so it will not be happening, at least this weekend.

pradierguy

So it's a no go for sure then Ric?

Semi-Final = Mary Hardin Baylor (no coming back from 17 down on this defense)
I agree there! One thing that is often overlooked about that loss then, was the loss of Jesse Clum in the second half of that game. Might be a whole different scenario had he been in that secondary.
Does anyone know how the regions will play out for the semi- finals?  Will it again be the East vs North and West vs South or swapped around? As Ric eluded too, I too, really would hate having the same WW vs MUC Stagg for a third yr, and yes again i know there is alot of football to play yet, but it would hurt to have this match up occur again.

Larry Kehres could be heard plain as day from the JCU stands as little things got him rankled. He may have passed off some responsibilities to assistants but LK is still in charge. You mess up and you are gonna hear about it. Coaches included!

section13raiderfan
I could hear him too, and rightfully so. The playoffs are here and LK won't tolerate some of the stupid penalties and inconsistent efforts of some players, when there are other guys wanting the chance to start and get their time. I know he was even screaming at a coach in particular to take someone out for his play and pointing fingers!! .....YES LK is in charge!!!

Mr. Ypsi

mtfan,

I believe I saw on another board that the regions are not paired in advance.  The top four regional seeds are rank-ordered, with 1v4 and 2v3.  As things currently stand that would probably mean MUC and UWW would be the two highest rated top seeds, and (if both survive) on another collision course for the Stagg.

............... I would love to see the Raiders schedule Walsh.  I'm not sure of any potential pitfalls of scheduling a NAIA school, but I don't think it's uncommon for non-conference games in D3.  I think anyone that grew up in or has lived in Stark County knows there's a certain level of arrogance over in N. Canton (and some of my own friends are included in that group).  I would love to see the debate settled on the field.
or Massillon for that matter?  ;D seems strange they aren't in the HS playoffs this year either, but nice to see some other Stark County teams making a statement. I don't think you'll ever see Walsh or for that matter Mount approach either for a match up in the near future.

mtfan

Ypsi,
Yes, i think i do remember reading that somewhere last yr during the playoffs, well either way, they all have to play out!

As for the playoffs, I think that Otterbein knocked Capital out of Pool C.

Ralph

I would have thought the loss to Otterbein in 2005 would have knocked them out of contention too but it didn't then at 8-2 so while I'm not expecting the Crusaders to get the nod, I guess I wouldn't be that surprised if they did.

Re: MUC and penalties

Through 9 games Mount has 65 penalties for 679 yards.

2006 96 for 944 in the regular season - 132 for 1303 including playoffs
2005 76 for 670 in the regular season - 114 for 982 including playoffs
2004 68 for 603 in the regular season - 77 for 682 including playoffs
2003 46 for 427 in the regular season - 65 for 573 including playoffs
2002 65 for 536 in the regular season - 92 for 775 including playoffs
2001 61 for 500 in the regular season - 87 for 715 including playoffs
2000 65 for 575 in the regular season - 89 for 818 including playoffs

The Raiders sure don't look like they get any better in the playoffs when it comes to penalties by the numbers.

Trends???  The penalties just keep on coming.  And they're getting to be bigger chunks of yardage.  This may be the first year they average over 10 yards per penalty.  MUC has already surrendered 18 penalties resulting in opponents' first downs.  If they give up three more, they set another new record for the program.

The Purple Raiders probably won't give up 1300+ like 2006 even if they get to the Stagg but if they continue to give up their per game average and get to the Stagg, they would amass about 105 penalties for 1130 yards.

The 2007 Mount Union defense is amazing but consider this: The Purple Raiders have only given up 157 yards rushing on the year but have given up over 4 times as many yards via penalty.

Just some food for thought...

Regarding who I would like to see MUC schedule game 1 in the future......
Notre Dame.  And now is the time to do it too....get em while they are down. ::) Make em come to US too, we have the better record! ;D  If MUC wins then that will settle it for all time whether  the Raiders are good enough to play a D1 team.

But seriously folks......Does anyone remember the Notre Dame hoax on April Fools Day when the phoney press release announced The Fighting Irish had signed MUC to a contract? They were blowing fuses out there at Notre Dame for a couple of days till the truth came out.  It was posted on here last spring. Maybe Pat Coleman or someone can re-run that again for all those who missed it the first time around. Im not computer savy enough to try it myself.
Here ya go.  Don't forget to click on comments at the end.  There were more than a few fooled at first and reacted accordingly.

Here is the way that the D3football.com brain trust viewed the distribution of the Pool C bids in the 2005 playoffs.

2005 Projections

The OWP and OOWP have replaced QOWI.  With respect to the teams that come off the table from the North Region, I wonder how the committee will view Capital versus a MSJ or possibly a Wheaton, whom I see as the likley Pool C candidates out of the north region.   :)

Walsh?  Your kidding right?

It would probably be a better game if Mount played Boston College rather than Walsh.  There is NO ONE who has any credibility at Walsh EVER saying anything about being competitive with Mount.  I know....I live about 1/2 mile from their campus, and talk to two of the coaches and a few of their players through various avenues here in North Canton.  The North Canton community as a whole looks at Mount as being one of their own...probably MORE than they hold any Walsh team.

I truly have never heard or witnessed the "arrogance factor" from the Walsh contingent.  Geeesh....Malone cleaned their clock this year.

In the lemons into lemonade category, John Carroll's website highlights a new school record:

"Mark Elsassaer was one of JCU's few bright spots against Mount Union, as he set a school record for most kick return yardage in a single game." [197 yards]
