Although this board is dominated by Mounties, I hope we do not try to stuff the box in the Liberty Mutual thing.....Obviously LK has proven his coaching abilities, however,  I think it is great to recognize those that pull programs from the rubble.  Hallett's story is a good one, as is the Case Western coach's performance.

I hope we do not get into the coach of the year awards going only to championship coaches.  Frankly, many coaches of teams struggling to be .500 are doing superb "coaching" by getting their teams to that level.  In twelve years of coaching I believe my best job of using my talent and coaching/teaching ended in a 11-11 won loss record.

IF CAP can win tomorrow, and gets into the play-offs, will they get any of the injured offensive players back for a play-off run?

As good as their defense is.....just run from the single-wing...and punt unexpectedly on 1st/2nd/3rd down repeatedly.  Sometimes the best offense is a well-placed punt and a great defense!   ;D

If you are referring to Assmann & Alexander, the answer is unfortunately not...they both are out to season ending injuries...its now time for some of that depth to step up...Go CAP!!

We need a new title for Kehres.  He and Coach Sherman stand out as the all-time coaches of the OAC.

And Tressel Sr and Packard and Wable

My point is, the group isn't that small even if Larry stands almost alone.

OAC Coaches in the top of all-time D III wins at the beginning of the year...

Kehres #5
Keith Piper  - Denison #11
Joe McDaniel - Marietta #19
Bob Packard - BW #25
Steve Mohr - Trinity but Denison grad #41
Mike Hollaway - Marietta/OWU #44
Dave Mauer - Wittenberg #47
Dick Tressel - Hamline (son of Lee...BW) #49
Ken Wable - MUC #62
Gene Slaughter - Cap #62

Miss anyone?  Note, the old-school coaches didn't play ten games per year!

How about outscoring your opponents 704-0 this year?
A high school team in Kansas did it.  Color pic on front page of NYT yesterday, so I had to get it.

Bethel/StJohns has become a big game the past few times and Bethel has won, doesn't surprise me. But may hurt St John's seeding come tomorrow!

SJU's loss hurts Capital's chances.

Central is losing to Wartburg too.

Not looking good for Capital right now.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

yes, would think so, Also, Central just topped Wartburg with a closing minute field goal, 17-14. A pass interference call brings Central close enough for the FG to win, when Wartburg had Central on the ropes most the game according to the announcers. That may happen to help Capital's cause there, with Wartburg having 2 losses!

Dr. Acula

Just got back from Bexley and I had a couple thoughts/comments....

First off, what a finish to the game.  Without writing a game story, BW scored w/ 20 seconds to go on a tipped pass.  Cap nearly picked it off and BW's freshman RB caught it off the richocet.  Down 17-16 at that point, they went for 2 and the pass fell incomplete.  It was a crazy last 2 minutes and undoubtedly stressful for the Crusader faithful.

Second, my hat's off to BW.  They played like they were the ones with a playoff chance on the line.  The defense was flying around the field.  Their fans were out in full force and vocal.  All around good showing by the Jackets.  Except for the guy who threw something (looked like his chewed gum) at James Starks.  Starks was "shhh-ing" the crowd after his INT, but don't toss something at a kid.  It was harmless, but it just looks bad.

Capital defensive end Zac McKenzie (#99) started and played the entire game at running back.  You read that correctly...running back.  He got a breather every now and again, but he was definitely the featured back today.  In fact, he set up Cap's first TD by breaking a 37 yd run inside the 5.  I didn't see him play D at all, but hopefully one of the Cap guys can confirm that as well as possibly elaborate on this.

All in all, fun game at Bernlohr today.  Keep your fingers crossed Cap.  I'm rooting for ya to get in and represent us well.

Interesting stat:  Kmic finishes the regular season under 1,000 yards.

reality check

Even with the win, does the fact that CAP was a successful 2-point conversion away from losinghurt their chances as well.  I think they needed a "convincing" win and some help from other games.  There's going to be some nail-biting in Bexley tonight and Sunday morning.

ONU escapes Wilmington with a win.  The offense seemed to be doing a good job all game but the defense was a bit suspect for ONU.  Simmons went 20-24 for 155 and 3 TD's.  Meadows had 100+ yards on the ground.  A lot closer than it should have been because of ONU's inablity to stop Wilmington's offense for most of the afternoon.  A good second half (scoring on the first 4 possessions after the half) was the key.  Lenny Trusnik finishes the season with 106 tackles finishing as the fifth leading tackler in ONU history.

A 3OT game between JCU and OTT???  JCU tied it up at 20 with 16 seconds left in the game.  They on-side kicked and recovered (ballsy move) but missed a game-winning FG in regulation wide left from 47 yards.  The teams go to OT.  OTT's up first, stalls and misses a 35 yard FG.  JCU gives it a shot, gets a first down, gets a personal foul and RB Rai Stover gets ejected.  JCU again misses a FG from 35 too.  Second OT and OTT and JCU both score TD's.  Third OT and Rafferty runs for a 25 yard score on the first play for OTT but on the 2-point conversion, OTT is called for an illegal shift and the attempt is no good.  On 4th and 2 from the OTT 7, Petruziello tosses a TD and then throws for the 2 pointer for the win in Westerville.  What a way to end a season!

The BERG puts up 52 points and 575 yards of total offense in its win over Muskingum.  Lucas Bauer gets over 200 yards receiving.  Lewis runs for 120 without a negative carry in the game.  The Berg
is an incredible story this season and Hallett gets my vote for COY (he had it after the got their second win).

Good luck to CAP for the selection show in the morning.
