New question:

MUC is averaging 271.5 yards rushing a game on offense (good for 11th in DIII) and TCNJ is only giving up 64.2 rushing yards a game on defense (good for 6th in DIII).  How many yards does MUC run for against TCNJ?  100? 200? 250? More?

I can see a couple different ways this could play out.  Let me start by saying it's probably safe to assume MUC will score in the 30's.

So the rushing total depends on whether NJ can score.  If not, then MUC will rush for more than 250 as MUC will be more interested in running the clock.  Especially given the current sensitivity regarding running up the score.

Or maybe NJ's offense will be found impossible to stop.  So MUC will run the ball ala Augustana to keep the NJ juggernaut off the field.

Or maybe Kmic will do what Kmic does come playoff time and rush for 200+ himself.

Hmmmm, yeah, I think MUC runs the ball just fine.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Players are more prone to injury trying to play it safe.  I'd be nervous with Brady in the game with a 46 point lead myself, but more worried about losing a lineman for whom I don't have a backup for each one.

I'd be most worried about a DL on the other team taking offense to the fact that New England chooses to go on 4th down with 42 point leads when they could kick a field goal.  Said DL may decide to cheapshot Mr. Brady to take out his frustrations and the Patriots could then lose the (current) best player in the NFL.

I would be willing to assume that the defensive players are trying to take shots at Brady when he's in that late in the game.  It seems that the Patriots O is just that good at protecting him.  On another note, and I believe this point has already been made, but it's worth saying again, we're talking about men who are paid large sums of money to play this game.  Running up the score shouldn't even be in the conversation when you have professionals on both sides of the ball.

Tom Brady was on the radio today, and talked about running up the score and a lot of things we are discussing here.  He mentioned a few interesting points about the whole thing.  Its a good interview and you can listen to it here

http://www.weei.com/pages/268228.php

-When you are up by 42 points and its 4th and 1, you don't need 3 points.  You need to run out the clock and get the game over with.  Unless your kicker needs some work, just run the ball

- The Patriots like to work on 4th and 1 plays.  They like to see how different plays work against different defenses.  Sure, they might need to work on onside kicks too, but at least this is part of the game.

-Brady, Moss, Stallworth, Welker and K. Brady have only been together for 10 games (30+ quarters with blowouts)  They need to be on the field as much as possible (3 quarters) in order to keep getting better.

-Getting better was one of the main points Brady had to say.  The Patriots only beat the Colts by a few.  That means they arent totally unstoppable.  They still need to improve and they still need to practice.

That must be why when it was 4th and 1 on the Bills 3 yard line while they were up 28 points with a little over a quarter to go they ran the Shotgun with 4 wide outs.  They weren't running it there and saying stop us because you know what is coming, they were trying to score the touchdown.

See the second point then.  The Pats dont have any good running backs anymore (the top two are out) and they are going to have to work with what they have if Maroney doesnt come back.  The patriots also know that if they are up 56-10, that if every time they get the ball, they down it and then punt on 4th, they could end the game at the 10 minute mark with 3 timeouts with the other team.  They need to work on plays they need to work on.  the division still isnt clinched yet either.

Yeah, I'm not a bitter Bills fan (not a fan of any specific team) it just seems like they are making up reasons why they are going for it when Belichick is just having them run up the score in reality.  Not like the New England players will object to being able to display their dominance so they are going with what he is telling them to do, and thats try and destroy the other teams as much as you can and if you get heat for it here are some reasons you can use.

Every NFL team keeps the starters in untill the 4th quarter.  Ben Rothlisberger came back from being hurt! and went into a game where Pitt was up by a huge amount.

Thank you Ric so much for the audio highlights, they are wonderful.Has any team ever gone 10-0 at home in a single season?Pat,do you know?A great deal of the reason so many good coaches come from Mount is the generosity of LK. He gives his young coaches big responsibilities and puts them in front.Sorry to see Sirriani loose, wanted to see him in the Stagg.Safe to say he didn't learn that trick play from LK.

Seriously....Moving on from NFL talk please.

Or start your own thread with this stuff.  I'm sorry I ever made mention of New England in comparison with MUC and apologize to the board for unknowingly starting this debate.

The last time the Aztec Bowl had three OAC players on it, you have to go all the way back to 2006. :)

Sorry -- too easy RC.
Pat,

Will it be too easy for you to let us know about Mount players in the Aztec Bowl - when Mount is not otherwise occupied?

Thanks,

Shark

Wow,  is the NJAC board dead. No posts, insights, banter from the Lion fans (maybe shouldn't be plural :-\)

RC, relative to the rushing yards, LK likes a challenge and I think MUC will move the ball on the ground effectively. Also if Mounts gets a sizeable lead early, It will be run, run, run.

Ric, Thanks the hard work in getting the audio highlights. They are much appreciated!

MUC Fans;

It's time one of the "Big Uglies" is recognized as DIII's best player.  I've just cast my vote for MUC O-Lineman Derek Blanchard for the Gagliardi.  Feel free to shower me with +K.   8)

At least they're not talking about baseball.

Mount has their game notes for TCNJ on the college web site if anyone is interested.
