Welcome back to the OAC board, OLineMom and Llama. I called my former boss from the Norfolk Southern in Roanoke today and told him to turn down the covers in the guest room as Kevin and I should be in after school Friday night.

I guess we should start rolling the peanut butter balls for the buckeyes. Figure I need at least twice as many this time.

I mentioned it before on this board, I turn sixty on Saturday and the only present I want is another father/son trip to Roanoke/Salem. Promised Kevin a morning trip to the O Winston Link Museum in Roanoke and then another party in the parking lot.  Hope it all works out.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Mount Union average home attendance: 3800
Bethel average home attendance:         4400

Mount Union enrollment:  2095
Bethel enrollment:          6200

Welcome to the big show Mount Union  ;D

just don't try to look at the size of the players or anything unrelated like that

Bethel U - College of Arts & Sciences (CAS): 2943* undergrads
Mt. Union College - 2095 undergrads only

Bethel U - CAS: 2943 x 39% male = 1147
Mt. Union College - 2095 x 50% male = 1047

NCAA Limit on Playoff Team: 55

Not a lot of difference in eligible males for football between the two school.  Welcome to reality.

(* Bethel U website stat)

^^^ LOTS of ladies at Bethel eh? Maybe we are missing something here in NE Ohio

Congratulations Seventies, come Saturday you'll officially be my elder, and I respect that.  Happy Birthday.  ;D

Reservations in Salem are already made.  Just a little matter to clean up this weekend and we're on our way!!

Don't want to count chickens before they hatch, but we are officially under the 2 week mark until Mount returns to Salem to go for number 10!
They should have practiced harder.

There have been bigger suprises in the history of d3football than if MUC lost this year.  They are the clear favorites, but they arent invincible.

In all of the years of this riegn of dominance, quite possibly the greatest in the history of sports, this is arguably the best team Mount Union has ever fielded.  Nuff said...

Maybe they havent played anyone yet?

+k, my man.  +k.

I see what you saying.  But sometimes it seems that in d3, the top 2-4 teams (one team from each region) are really heads and shoulders above the rest of the country.  So I wont be suprised (It has happened, look at 2000) if 3 of the final 4 games are closer scores than the 13 previous scores for MUC, UWW, Bethel and MHB.....

Isn't that the way it supposed to be?  The deeper in the playoffs you go, the tougher the competition?  We all know it isn't always the case, but I'd be very disappointed if the playoffs were easier than the regular season.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Small but Slow

Any team that makes the playoffs knows how to win and expects to win each week.  That's the reason advancing through this system as often as MUC has over the past 14 years is such an amazing feat to me.  While MUC's reputation and accomplishments may have intimidated a few teams it has also motivated others to perform at a higher level.  Each week there is always potential for a let down or enough bad breaks going against the team to lose even if the talent level is superior.

I agree. Look at WVU and Missouri. I realize its D-1 but it still applies.

I was feeling a little sorry for the Raider players who looked so confused in the fourth quarter of the 2003 Stagg Bowl...there was still plenty of time for a comeback...Hmmm.  Then I was really disappointed when the Raiders failed to show up to play the best all time QB in DivIII history, according to the stats...Hmmm...I wonder...could the Royals actually beat Mt. Union this year?  Hmmm.  After all the west region champ has managed to win the Stagg a few times anyway....Oh, that's just history.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

AO,

What would that attendance number have been without the SJU game in November......over 10,000 there that day?

Here's to hoping Mount Union hangs 70+ on our friends from Bethel.. ;D ;D....

skunks_sidekick

There is amusing sarcastic banter (AO), and then there is your post.  Yah....the reason Mount lost to MHB in 2004 was because they were AFRAID of the big bad QB from Linfield.  Hmmmmm...maybe the Linfield QB lost to WW in 2005 because he was afraid to play Mount in the Stagg.  Both statements are totally ridiculous.

Hey....history is a great thing.  It teaches us much.  However, regarding the most recent play-offs (2006 & 2007), Linfield can only talk about how GREAT their QB was, and how "those were the days", back in 2004-2005.

Get back into the play-offs, make a run, and then come on and run some smack.  Right now, just go to the NWC board and talk about how omnipotent the "Cat Dome Advantage" is.   ::)

Small but Slow

Expecting to win can also cross the line to overconfidence.  I, as many, thought SJU had no chance in '03.  MUC apparently had no weaknesses and the Johnnies' star player was doubtful, and if available could not be healthy enough to play effectively.  I was sadly mistaken.  Elliott was incredible and Coach Gags and his staff had a game plan that kept both Mount's offense and defense on their heels all day.  I learned a lesson that day myself.
