I was looking at Mt. Unions past history.  Some wierd one game series before and after WW1

1912- West Virginia   W 34-0
1913- Michigan           L  14-0
1915- Syracuse          L  73-0
1919- Notre Dame     L  60-7

It's amazing--they won't play us any more!    ;)

Not sure about UM or WVU, but Syracuse and ND might have been good games this year! ;)

AO...Since LK has a 246-20-3 (.920) going into his 22nd year with 9 National titles, 16 straight OAC titles, one winning streak of 54 and another of 55, what hasn't he seen yet? What us Mount fans' have or have not seen does not matter. So please, enlighten us with your football knowledge.

BTW...
Ithaca averaged 34 pts/gm and gave up 17 Result - Mount 42-18

TCNJ...averaged 25/gm and gave up 14/gm Result - Mount 59-7

SJF...averaged 35/gm and gave up 14 Result - Mount 52-10

Bethel...averages 30/gm and gives up 17...hmmm.....

RUN NATE RUN!!

Purpld,

AO is a pot stirrer.....nothing more.  I would not read a lot into his posts regarding this week.  You have seen better teams than this one from Bethel.  He will now come back about how they beat SJU and we are sitting home watching the rest of the playoffs.  Larry will have his troops ready for this band of Bible Thumpers.

What's he got in the pot?

70, 80 or 100 won't happen,  but 60 is a distinct possibility.

I'd be honored on my sixtieth birthday. Start the chant: "Sixty for Seventies"
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

cut above

to chime in on the Mount vs. 1-aa topic.

mount would not match up well at all against the scholarship programs and get killed by the likes of Younstown and App State. etc.  but I firmly beleive they would compete for the title of any of the non-scholarship conferences.. I'd say the same goes for other top notch D3 programs. i see little difference between d3 and non-scholarship 1-aa

Geez, are you old!!

I don't turn 60 for 8 more months! :D  (But I don't suppose "59 for Mr. Ypsi" would be much of a chant. :()

If the raiders are going to win, it's probably going to be through the air as Bethel's run D has been very tough as of late.

I'll bet MUC rushes for at least 150 yards versus the Royals.

A tradition unrivaled...

DuffMan was feeling old this weekend.  First, I was flipping through the channels and noted that the folks on MTV's "The Real World" look young.  Then, I went to the liquor store to get a keg for a party we had, and I actually had trouble lifting it by myself.

You guys are making me feel young again.  I guess 26 3/4 isn't that old ;)

Congrats to Micheli for his first-team Academic All-American honor.  Is there anything that kid CAN'T do?   :)

He can't flash his golden buckeye card at the Golden Corral for the senior buffet.

I have a question concerning Mike Zimmerman.   I understand he has the D3 record for consecutive extra points.  Does he have a shot at the NCAA record?

The NCAA record for consecutive extra points of 161, set by John Becksvoort of Tennessee from 1991-94.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

Yep RC....he ain't no Rocky!   8)

For all the Mount fans, Bethel fans, and any D3 folks in town Friday night.....I am contemplating throwing a little shindig somewhere in either Belden Village, or Alliance (depending on when/where certain celebrities will be).  If you are interested, send me a note letting me know, and where you would prefer it happen.

I am thinking a little semi-final talk, a few cocktails, and a meet and greet with anyone/everyone.

Bethel fans........what happens in Ohio.....STAYS in Ohio.  Your secret will be safe with us if you want to wander into an establishment that serves the devils brew.   ;D ;)

Welcome back to the OAC board, OLineMom and Llama. I called my former boss from the Norfolk Southern in Roanoke today and told him to turn down the covers in the guest room as Kevin and I should be in after school Friday night.

I guess we should start rolling the peanut butter balls for the buckeyes. Figure I need at least twice as many this time.

I mentioned it before on this board, I turn sixty on Saturday and the only present I want is another father/son trip to Roanoke/Salem. Promised Kevin a morning trip to the O Winston Link Museum in Roanoke and then another party in the parking lot.  Hope it all works out.
Why, you young thing, you.  Just now turning 60?  It's been 7 months now and some days are better than others!!  Tomorrow's my name day though, so I'll be 60 1/2.  Need to celebrate.  But I'll wait til Salem!!
Yeah!!!  Love those buckeyes!!  So delicious!!
O.Winston Link took some fantastic pictures of friends of mine while taking pictures of the trains in and around Luray back in the day.  I bet they are in that museum.  Lots of people at home have copies of the one of the curved road bridge untle the railroad trestle.  The lines are so cool!!!  It's my favorite picture.  There is a night one and a day one with kids I grew up with frolicking (yeah, we did that way back then) in the Hawksbill Creek (it's really a crik, but . . .).  Hoping to see you and Kevin soon.  The team has to take care of business of Saturday.
Still have 2 1/2 exams to write and it's past bedtime.  But the Stagg Bowl awaits next week.  I'm going down on Thursday , Dec. 13th (my Christmas present to me).  I bought my ticket to the Gagliardi banquet and the players' luncheon today!!!  I'm psyched!!  Can you tell it's almost MAGIC, or should I say PURPLE TIME? ;D ;D ;D
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

BTW...some off the wall info...Truman Turnquist, former dean of everything and chemistry prof at Mount Union is a Bethel alumnus.  He and his three sons had very successful basketball careers there...son, Dale had a cup of coffee in the NBA and played professionally in Europe and Australia...
If they represent what kind of folks  Bethel brings to the table, they will be some fine fine people...
Again, it is good to see a different team coming to Alliance...

I would like to see MHB and WW game...it could be a great game...
raiderpa-
Well done on the trivia, and your assessment of the kind of folks from Bethel that you can expect to meet this weekend is spot on.  Don't let the shrill mud-slingers among the SJU supporters fool you.  Like I told Central, meet as many of the Bethel players, coaches, parents, and fans as you can this weekend.  After the game, talk to the players on your team about what it was like to play Bethel.  If after all that you think the Royals are a bunch of hypocritical, Bible-thumping crotch grabbers then so be it.  Central didn't find that to be the case, and I'm sure you won't either.

I'm the third generation of my family to graduate from Bethel, played for the Royals from 97-00, and was a Senior on the first Bethel team to get into the play-offs.  I would like nothing more than to see my guys playing in the biggest game in the school's history and to meet all the fine people who support Purpler Raider football, but work commitments will keep me on the wrong side of the Pacific for that.

Honestly, there really is nothing that we as Bethel fans can point to in the build-up to this game that indicates it will be anything other than a comfortable win for Mount.  Is that ever not true when somebody plays the mighty Purple?  What I can tell you is that our boys are good, we're as proud of them as we can be, and Mount will get nothing less than the best everybody can offer from Coach Johnson on down the roster.  It will take a special effort to get a win, but this team has already done lots of special things.  We'll see what happens this Saturday. ;D

From Bethel's website:

"Bethel began as a seminary for Swedish Baptist immigrants in 1871 and in 1914 combined with a secondary academy, which later became a junior college. In 1947, the addition of a four-year liberal arts college created Bethel College & Seminary. The institution reorganized as Bethel University in 2004 to reflect its broad scope of programs. Bethel is sponsored by the churches of the Baptist General Conference. The institution maintains alliances with many other evangelical organizations and churches."
