I listened last night to an interview a couple guys that have a radio show up in Minnesota did with Bethel Head Coach Steve Johnson. The interview is linked from Bethel University's football page if anyone hasn't heard it...

http://athletics.bethel.edu/index.asp?path=football

For the most part it's an interesting interview.  I'm kinda not sure why Johnson says, twice, they're going to punch Mount Union in the mouth, but I guess thats ok.  But one thing I do not agree with him on is when he said that in watching film he thinks everyone that plays Mount changes their gameplan and goes with things that did not get them there and they're going to play their game and stick with it.  I don't know, don't we hear that from at least one team every year?

On another note, the two guys with the radio show could have spent five minutes preparing for the interview.  They weren't even sure of Bethel's nickname.

All this conversation about Bethel's running game...are they a north-south team, or do they try and use more mis-direction and cutbacks?

RedToothe, I am not sure who your are or who you are for, but as far as Kyle Lee is concerned, he has had some injury issues, and Bernstetter has been used as necessary according to the game plan.   This plan will change if necessary this week.  I  assure you we will use them as needed in Alliance.  If you are a BU fan, go back to the MIAC boards and join the scattered johnnie posters, you will do well there..  If you are a MIAC guy, we are playing for SJU, Olaf, Iowa, Minnesota, and all the other states that encompass the MIAC..  If you think we are scared of Mount Union, you are wrong,  I know big words, but one thing they have not seen yet,  a team that  wants to play one more week,  not just for the championship, but for the fact they get to be together one more time as a team that puts everyone else first.  Mount Union is full of great athletes, sure of the victory, sure of a lot of victories to come, but this week, this time, they play a team that believes in eachother.  If we cant get it done with the recievers, we will stick it in there ear with the defense, and if we get scored on, we will score on the floor, or through the air.  but any which way, they will know they were up against a team unlike they have seen.  If these points end up in quotations, know this Mount Union, we dont care about your stats, your players, or your coaches, this team got here together, and we will show up and play together.  I remember a SJU team that shocked the world a few years ago, and we were just a minute away that year from beating the SJU team that went on to be who?   SJU did it because they believed, they were not intimitaded, and they showed up,  all of which I expect Bethel to do this weekend.  D3 finaly gives props to the team that I know has the ability to shock even you Raiders..   Strap them tight boys..............

At least it took to Game 14 for the first official "you haven't seen a team like us before" post.  Like we haven't heard that one a 1000 times.

Maybe Mount should just forfeit.  They have no chance against a team wanting to win simply because they want to hang out together for another week.  Yikes, that sounds like something a Wabash guy would say.

Dumb question, but if quality time together is so important, why doesn't Bethel just build somekind of Student Center for the kids to play billiards in the off-season?  Do you think they could build it before they arrive back on campus Saturday night for the official start of their off-season?

Good luck with the "punch em in the mouth" game plan.  You'll need it.

I almost wish at this point that I'd set the spread higher. ;D

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Here's what Bethel's coach has to say--seems like they are pretty north south:

royalachilles,

I love your spirit, and admire your optimism.  Keep it up, and enjoy the game this weekend.  All we ask is that if y'all lose, try and offer the due respect to the winning team.  UMHB, SJU, ONU will tell you that when Mount loses, their fans are quick to give credit to the team that won.  Good luck this weekend, but if it doesn't work out as you hope, we look forward to hearing from you again.
Having not visited this board until this week, I have to say I am very impressed with the dignity and restraint of the MUC posters, in contrast to some of the BU posters.  Kind of like the cat playing with the little mouse before dinner. ;)

Thanks Ric, I gotta agree with the 5 minute prep part, Geez,  I thought Goulardi was a former late night movie tv host NOT THE COACH FOR the Johnnies! ;D. I can see why the Johnnies don't have alot of respect for their conference companion.  :D

The most interesting thing about this quote to me is that fact the RA is implying that no other team Mount has faced this postseaon wanted to win and play another week.  Interesting argument... Mount must be winning because the coaches that they have played so far didn't try and prepare their players and the teams never bothered showing up because they didn't want to win anyway.  It probably has nothing to do with the fact that Mount has been the far superior team in every game they have played this season, only the fact that the teams Mount has played up to this point didn't want to win the game.
They should have practiced harder.

jaypeter

If Bethel made it to the semis because they wanted to win, doesn't royalachilles' argument hold that Mount also made it this far because they wanted to win?  I guess we don't want to win any more since Bethel will beat us on Saturday.

Now you are getting way to logical.  His argument only works in favor of Bethel, not the other way around.  Everybody knows that.

Big argument on the UMHB WW game over the weather.  A few posters from MBH are saying that when they beat MUC it was in a blizzard.   I don't know if that is true or not. Question for all the MUC fans, what type of field did they play on?  was it Turf or Grass.  I know that MHB plays on Turf and that the difference this weekend will be the field conditions at WW since it is a grass field.  Any observations from Ohio?

I think you guys have been too good over the last three years to be concerning yourself with having an advantage because of weather or field conditions.

Yeah but WW hasn't won the big one yet and I would rather have WW playing Bethel this weekend than UMHB

CruAlum39

Finally one WW poster that seems to be a little scared of their opponent this week!!! ;D
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

jaypeter

Who wouldn't agree with that statement, though?  I bet UMHB would rather be playing Bethel than UWW (revenge factor aside).  It might be interesting, though, to see what would happen if Bethel played Bethel.  With both teams wanting to win so badly, it'd be a 7 OT thriller for sure!

CruAlum39

Nice jaypeter... That is one matchup I would love to see.
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

raiderguy

RA,
While I respect your passion and conviction how do you let yourself believe that the Raiders are somehow not as dedicated. Don't you think for a moment that they are in the possition they are in now because of the same dedication. Joy in spending that time together for just one more game? I think so. And as far as not caring about our stats how do you think we got them? Beating teams each week, yes even teams like Bethel. I will leave you with some of those stats to review. RE '03 , my biggest concern is we beat Bethel 66-0 like we beat Bridgewater and go to the Stagg with an "all we have to do is show up attitude" Thatis not taking anything away from SJU, they kicked our ass.

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

It's just too bad that Mount can't win this weekend, no matter what the final score ends up.  If Mount Union has more points, then apparantly Bethel just got tired of playing together.
