I listened last night to an interview a couple guys that have a radio show up in Minnesota did with Bethel Head Coach Steve Johnson. The interview is linked from Bethel University's football page if anyone hasn't heard it...

http://athletics.bethel.edu/index.asp?path=football

For the most part it's an interesting interview.  I'm kinda not sure why Johnson says, twice, they're going to punch Mount Union in the mouth, but I guess thats ok.  But one thing I do not agree with him on is when he said that in watching film he thinks everyone that plays Mount changes their gameplan and goes with things that did not get them there and they're going to play their game and stick with it.  I don't know, don't we hear that from at least one team every year?

On another note, the two guys with the radio show could have spent five minutes preparing for the interview.  They weren't even sure of Bethel's nickname.

Others have mentioned this, but the hosts are very focused on pro sports, and probably didn't' even know Bethel was D3 until their producer told them. PA's most infamous call as Vikings play-by-play guy was when the Cardinals defeated the Vikings on the last play of the season four years ago and he let out a primal "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO." The host after them always makes fun of them, most recently for a statement one of them made that was something like "late in the year, defenders will shy away from tackling Adrian Peterson out of fear of getting hurt."

Maybe someone has said this, but I'm surprised no Mount fans have made the crack, "the best team Mount's offenses and defenses will face this year are the second-string units in practice."

Someone said something like that yesterday.

MUC Backers.......last week after listening to Bethel posters whine about their wonderful season and how SJU fans will never acknowledge it, I posted the following analogy for my fellow SJU fans.  I thought after reading the same whining here this week that I would share it with you.....

To all my fellow SJU backers,

I think I have finally been able to determine what the Bethel types like thefreebird want; simple acknowledgment for a job well done........they are no longer in diapers and want us to acknowledge that they have pooped in the big boy toilet (won in the playoffs).  They want to show us their poop, have us comment on how big it was and encourage them to continue using the toilet.  The problem is they are going to continue to want to show us their poop (if there is any) and have us continue to validate their growing potty skills.......for those of you parents you will know what I'm talking about....after awhile seeing the poop gets old and just want to make sure they wash their hands.....keep in mind there will be accidents...where they go in their trousers again....

So there you have it-----Bethel good job for being big boys and winning a couple of games in the playoffs, make sure you wash you hands and don't forget to flush  ;D

Redtooth,
I don't understand your lack of support for Bethel. Being from the same conference puts you in the same group, "family if you will". I know SJU has a long history of success, but hey if MUC didn't make it and Capital was playing I would be supporting them. Just a thought. GO RAIDERS!

I don't completely agree with you.

Yes there are some athletes that can play at another level that play Div. III ball.  But to say that Mount is head and shoulders above the rest of the programs in the nation on sheer talent at the D3 level(I think that is what you are saying), I don't know if I'm all the way in agreement with you.   I think there are a few other teams in the nation at or close to the same level and still others that probably have a small handful of better athletes.  I think MUC is head and shoulders of the rest because the athletes are products of an amazing system.

While there is no doubt there is a very high talent level at MUC, to say that they have the best athletes in the country, I am not in total agreement.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this...
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

Redtooth, even I have to admit that was funny... we will try and not poopy on the field...... :)

My useless and always wrong prediction:

Bethel - 17
Mount - 38

What movie will be showing on the Bethel team bus as it winds its way into "bucolic" Alliance? Will it be RUDYor WE ARE MARSHALL?

Any suggestions for the ride home?

Some news....Terrance Mooring will not play and may not dress for Saturday's game. He is very doubtful for the Stagg.Word is the kickoff coverage unit will be much improved, even fanatic, about getting to the return man this week.

Redtooth,

Your antics are getting old. You remind me of the little boy who finally learned how to write a funny post and continues to repost it so everyone this he is funny when he is actually a bitter johnnies fan you can't get over being beat by bethel two years in a row.

Don't worry we will continue to take a poop on the "John" for years to come.

Hey KnightStalker.......I think you are on to something.......

I think what us Mount fans will do is post "allowable comments on our board when your team (who has no chance and everyone knows it) plays Mount in the play-offs.   ;D

That way when the SJFFan-like fans of the world...the AO-like fans of the world....the blankety blankety blank fans of the world come in here....everyone's on the same page.

I think the first allowable comment should be..

  • We might be the best team MUC has played all season but Mount is going to hand us our azzes anyway.

;D

And when is it that the John Carroll fans get into arguments with Northwestern (Minn.) fans? Because that's where we are now. :)

I  agree. But they are more talented than most. But I don't think you can assume they always have the best player at every position, which some do, cause less face it, whoever they're RB is, he's going to shine. They're a machine and its often hard to tell who's ultra talented and who is simply plugged into it. I don't know much beyond the OAC, and I know Mount has the most talent, but surely not all of it and not always the best; def. the most though. I'd guess there are teams outside of the conference with simlar talent, just less developed programs.

Being a Mount guy, we always took pride in the fact that we didn't always have the most talented team on the field every Saturday (most Saturday's yes). However, during my time period we were not the most athletic team in our conference ONU usually had all the talent in the world. But playing for Mount you always knew that together you were better than any other team out there, it was a belief in the team, and your teammates. Coaching, preparation, and confidence definitely got Good Ole MUC a couple of victories over the years to some teams that were more talented.

I am not trying to say Mount doesn't get great athletes, I am just saying there have been more talented teams out there, and there is a lot more than talent when it comes to college football.

A great example of this is the article on the front page about Blanchard.  A lot of people probably read that and think he is just saying what people want to hear and, he is saying what he is supposed to say. Honestly that is the mentality of a Mount player; the team is always bigger than anyone and anything else. If you don't buy in and you don't accept your role on the team you won't last long at Mount.  That i why Mount usually beat teams that have more talent than they do. Please do not try to turn my post into Mount doesn't get athletes because I am not saying that, I am saying they have bet some teams year in and year out with more talent than themselves.
