I'm surprised the COACH'S WINNING PERCENTAGE statistic hasn't been compared yet.

Larry Kehres = 92.3% (260-20-3)
Lance Leipold = 92.4% (13-1)

Advantage?  WHITEWATER! ;D

That is great.  How will LK respond to a coach who can obviously outcoach him on the field?  I mean, look at the stats, the guy has a better winning percentage.  You can't argue with facts.
They should have practiced harder.

Information about opportunities for charter or tele-transportation to Salem will be appreciated.

Thanks,

RC,

Noticed one overlooked player from your pro-career list...

Ben Davis (Defiance College) - DB for Cleveland Browns from 1967-1973, and Detroit Lions from 1974-1976

Except for the sticky little detail that Defiance College has never been a member of the OAC, you're right.  I did forget him.  Silly me. ;)
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)
OAC Runners-Up: 2017, 2016, 2015, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1982, 1941 (Stupid Mount Union!)
MOL Champs: 1952, 1950

RC, Carl Tassef was Shula's good friend and teammate and coaching colleague.  If fact Shula has Tassef coaching D-backs for him until the late 70's at least.

I do think that it is interesting to see that at the beginning of the playoffs, the Playoff Capsule for UWW was saying that "this Whitewater team might not be as strong as last year's" and now there seems to be at trend towards people naming them their best team of the last three years.  The lost a lot due to graduation and also lost their coach.  While I will admit I don't remember a lot from the last two years of Whitewater teams (I was not able to keep up with the national picture the last few years as much as this year), this seems to be maybe their best shot at Mount.  Why?  They have a good running game that will keep MUC honest.  Let's be honest that big reason for Mount's success against the run is their dedication to stopping the run.  Beavers will keep them honest.  But, UWW has a strong QB and a talented group of receivers that might be able to take advantage of Mount's aggressiveness against the run.  Can Whitewater's offense keep up with Mount's?  That's a tall task in most years, and could be a major obstacle this year.  My best guess?  Whitewater will points on the board through the air, but not enough to catch up to the Raiders.
Although this years WW team is much improved from the beginning of the year you would be mistaken to think that this is their best team.  Looking at the 07 hawks MUC has got to like its matchups even more than they did the past two years.  This looks like the best MUC team and the worst WW team with the biggest difference being this years Hawks team doesn't have a big play threat, they really don't have anyone who scares a team like MUC in the passing game.  Chances are your going to have to throw it to win against these good D's and there isn't much doubt MUC has a more dangerous passing game.  Also the WW run defense doesn't seem to be up to the standards of the past, loosing Kleppe will do that.  Given all that I still think the Hawks have a chance if they limit big plays and hold onto the ball, if it's a high scoring game they don't have a prayer.  Should be a good matchup and hopefully a good game, but barring a lot of turnovers (3+) I think the Hawks will come up short again.

Small but Slow

This is the first chance I've had to post since the game Saturday.  I have to say I was impressed by the BU strategy of deferring the choice of kicking or receiving to the second half.  Obviously their staff felt the first possession of the third quarter would still matter.  Of course, if they had been able to score and make the score 41-7 who knows how things might have ended up.

Quick question for all of you who know the obscure rules better than I do:

In the playoffs there have been two times that our opponents have kicked on-side kickoffs and our guys have fielded the ball in the air--no knees down, etc.--and the play has been blown dead.  Why have they not been allowed to advance the ball like they would be on any other kickoff?  Nickoli had a clean catch of the ball in the fourth quarter this week and took off running but the play was blown dead by the refs.  WHY????

REQUEST:
To those of you who are objective fans of Division 3 football, I ask that you consider voting for an OAC graduate as Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year.  I have stated the case for Greg Debeljak before and he needs our help with the voting.  Please use the link below, click on and vote once a day until the fan voting is complete:

Debeljak is a graduate of John Carroll and has a staff filled with former OAC guys as well.  He's currently in 5th (out of 5), so I look forward to seeing if OUR OAC BOARD CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Sounds like they messed up, the kicking team can't advance a recovery or muff only a fumble, which happens all the time.

Although my view of that kickoff was obscured I assumed that a BU player touched the ball prior to it traveling ten yards, which brings the ball back to the point of the illegal touch if the whistle is blown.  If the play is allowed to continue (which it should have been) the return team can advance it.  This is a rather gray area in the rule book (Rule 6, Article 6)
