VK:
I lived in Bloomington, IN during the 80's and watched almost every IU basketball game and two of their national championships.  Watching Bobby Knight all those years makes what VK did seem like nothing to me.  I don't understand the strong reaction to what Vince did.  I'm sure he regrets doing it and I'm perfectly willing to let it go.  It was a tough loss.  Let's cut the guy some slack, fellas.
Name a D3 defensive coach who did a better overall job this year than Vince Kehres?  I don't think you can.  :-*

The strong reaction can be summed up in one word:  Hope.

Hope that the chemistry of MUC is finally going to break-up.

Small but Slow

Coaches melting down is nothing new.  Woody Hayes was the master of the meltdown.  His final one was unfortunate, but he was known to throw sideline and down and distance markers onto the field when he was upset.  He was also a head coach and icon by that time.

Probably no reason for the MUC faithful to panic just yet.  Their return to the top is more than likely.

I think the reason for the strong reaction to VK and his actions is very much a result of the fact that we don't typically see things like that in a game involving Mount Union.  LK is very businesslike on the sideline and you rarely see him come onto the field.  If he does, it is normally because he is upset with one of his players, not the officials.  There are tons of coaches across the different divisions that have done worse than VK.  I'm not justifying here, what he did was stupid.  But, in most games, involving most teams, a coach picking up a meaningless unsportsmanlike conduct penalty doesn't really make waves.  It was meaningless because down by 2 scores, you could've let them kick from the MUC 10 and it wouldn't have made a difference.  Let it be what it was, a dumb mistake by a very enthusiastic and emotional coach that I'm sure LK has already handled.
They should have practiced harder.

Speaking of coaching blunders... anybody see the news about Florida State losing 25 players for their bowl game and 20 of them might have to sit out part of next year?  Talk about a coach losing control of a program, 25 players involved in a cheating scandal certainly doesn't bode well.  Might be time for Bowden to start thinking about turning over the program to someone else.

At this point, wouldn't it be more newsworthy if FSU didn't have any players suspended for a bowl game?  Think about it.  When was the last time there wasn't some sort of controversy surrounding the garnett and gold before their bowl appearance?

I am a high school football coach and i know this is a little bit of a dead horse but I do think what VK did was wrong.  From a standpoint of an assisstant coach, I know my head coach would have a few "choice words" with me if I were to make a mistake like this.  He told me if anyone is going to get a penalty, it had better be him.  Plus, officials are a lot less likely to flag a head coach about a call that one of the assisstants.

Coaches teach their kids to play with emotion, however, not to lose control to the point where you could get a penalty and hurt your own team.  While I understand coaches can get just as excited in the heat of the battle as the players, they have to hold themselves to a higher standard and in a composure that the kids cannot.  This is important to the team so that the kids see the coach practicing what he preaches.  If the kids see it, they are a whole lot more likely to reflect the behavior.

I know this is not the first time this has happened, and I am quite sure that it won't be the last, but it still shouldn't.

Anyways...

I just wanted to say that even though I was rooting for the Warhawks so that UMHB could say that we lost to the best, I have nothing but respect for the MUC football program and fans.  They were a class act even in defeat when I played them, which tell you more about a team than just about anything else.
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

Im really frustrated. First MUC isnt the National Champions this year...then my VCR doesnt record the game for me! I AM NOT A HAPPY MAN! >:(
What really sucks is that we wont have an opportunity this January to gather and recognize this years teams amazing accomplishments. If I could, I would throw the party myself. The defense should definately have the opportunity to stand before the throng and get their STANDING OVATION. You guys were amazing. And the Offense....you guys... WHAT A RIDE!  A thrill a minute....sometimes even less than a minute! You may not get your recognition night this year, but we wont be forgetting you. It was a great 07. And its gonna be great in 08!

MERRY CHRISTMAS RAIDER FAITHFUL WHEREVER YOU ARE.

Time to get TIVO (or whatever DVR your cable or satelite provider uses).  I'm not sure I own a working VCR.

Or a a minimum a VCR/DVD recorder combo, that way he can still watch/copy his tapes to DVD.

I feel for ya, man.  Forget to SET my DVR and remembered at the game in the 2nd quarter.  I was happy to find this link posted on UWW's home football page though and thought I would pass it along to you guys when I read this.  You can buy a copy of the broadcast from the NCAA.

Congrats to the Raiders, their coaches and fans on a fantastic team.  They had a phenominal year, have an amazing program and will be back with a vengence next year, I have no doubt.  Happy Holidays to all.

Obviously, the NCAA doesn't agree with the iTunes pricing scheme.  $24.99?!  YOWZAHS!

ESPN2 replayed the game this morning at 2:30am.  Sorry, I forgot to post it yesterday.

MTU Bookstore used to sell Championship DVDs, and I think they were about that much also.

with all that is being said about the young Kehres' foray to the 10 yard line, I think something should be said for the job that he has been doing.
When the previous D-Coordinator left for E&H, all fans, myself included worried that we would never see the likes of a Monty defense again.
Under VK's leadership the defense has been BETTER.  I personally like the attacking style that Vince employs and believe that even though Mount's offense continues to thrive, the defense and schemes have improved through his tenure.

Next season, the rebuilding/reloading on both sides of the ball may be somewhat extensive,(by Mount standards) and I believe that, like most growing teams, the defense will have to lead.  I think it will.

On the maturity of young coaches,  we all (Parents) look out for our kids, give them more than they need, and protect them from some things in the world.  In many cases maturity takes longer for some than others.  I believe it comes quick for those in the military because it has to...I speak from experience here.

I think this incident will be a solid learning one for him. From my limited  experience and personal contact I have found VK to be respectful and pleasant to his elders, in much the same way as his father.
