No, not really.  Just rumors about Bickel being the likely successor, but those are expected.

Also stumbled across a report that  Assistant Coach Kent Schoolfield was chasing a HC job in the south.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Yeah, I heard that too.  And I also heard that Alliance native and JCU grad Mike Ancona is also moving on.  There will be some new offensive coaches at Cap in addition to a new HC.

Small but Slow

This certainly wasn't Ohio's year in championship games and there were many parallels between the two games.  MUC and OSU were both pushed around physically by UWW and LSU respectively and both the Raiders and Buckeyes lost their composure at key points in the game.  Of course, getting manhandled physically resorts to the loss of composure.  Very few teams are able to win a game where they get pushed around for long.  The Buckeyes defense seemed confused by LSU's offensive formations, which were not necessarily spread looks.  While adjustments should have been made by the coaches, the players should know the game well enough to cover the backside tight end on a trips formation.  I would guess the D-staff in Columbus may be on the hot seat.

heard today that Pierre Garcon has recieved an invitation to the NFL Combine in February, can't wait to see what kind of numbers he can put up

I think the job for Schoolfield you were referring to is the Savannah State job which has been filled by anotehr candidate.  Schoolfield's name always pops up when a southern HBCU has an opening.

He'll certainly have a great opportunity to improve his potential draft position.  I think that he is in much the smae boat Allen from Whitworth was last year: a guy on the borderline of geting drafted vs. just getting a free agent look.

I think some of the numbers Allen put up at the combine last year bumped him into the draft.  I hope the same is true for Garcon, but the guys he will be "competing" with at the combine will be much better athletes than Allen had to "compete" against last year (WR's vs. TE's), so his numbers might not stand out as much.

Pierre Garcon will do well at the combine and still get no draft day notice simply because he was D3. Old prejudices are hard to break. I hope he has a chance to shine in some preseason games, but you watch......at the last cut someone will say ...yeah but he did break his hands a time or two at MUC, and we dont want to risk a roster spot on him. NFL guys are too skiddish! I still cant believe Randy Knapp isnt catching the ball for somebody in the pros. All the guy did was catch everything thrown his way. The Browns need him as a posession type guy to keep drives alive like Brian Brennan used to do.

I don't know about the D3 stigma as Stanley was drafted last year in the 7th round by the Rams.

And Michael Allen, the TE from Whitworth, was dafted about 10-15 spots ahead of Derek by the Chiefs last year and just signed a new three year deal with them.  He was the first D-3 guy ever invited to the televised NFL combine, I believe.  I watched him on TV put up some very impressive numbers.  These guys have helped pave the way and the stigma may be changing somewhat.

And Pierre will fit right in with his DI talent, frame and attitude.  It will be interesting to see how he does because I know that if it were me playing the part of the "lowly DIII guy invited to the combine" I'd be "Yes Sir'ing" and "No Sir'ing" at every opportunity to position myself as a humble, coachable and hard-working guy trying to get my shot.  Somehow I doubt he'll take that approach however.

do you know Pierre personally?

Hey Suit.....I know you have Pierre's back and everything...as do most of us who follow Mount football.  But come on........RC is basing that on the three years he watched Pierre perform on the field.  There is no bias there.  RC WANTS him to make it.  Hey........if London "spit on a Mount player the last D-III college game I ever play" Fletcher can make it, then Garcon's ummm......"confidence" will not be a deterrent to the NFL scouts.

PurpleSuit

really I dont have Pierre's back, just that I actually know the guy and it just seems odd that some people can't differentiate a player's persona on the field and the type of person/worker the player actually is.  this is 2008, what Pierre does on the field is not that bad anyways, even if it goes against the traditional D3
