If Pierre has a nice combine I could see him getting pick as early as the 5th round. However, I could also see him not getting picked at all.

I'll tell ya that the 4X100 National Championship on his resume will really help his case, but the injuries will not.

He has the speed and the hands. Let's just hope it works out.

BTW if he makes a team past the final cuts I will find those "personalize your jersey" places and get a Garcon one lol. (Even if it is the Patriots)

There will be 20-30 WRs drafted.

I don't know about the D3 stigma as Stanley was drafted last year in the 7th round by the Rams.

And Michael Allen, the TE from Whitworth, was dafted about 10-15 spots ahead of Derek by the Chiefs last year and just signed a new three year deal with them.  He was the first D-3 guy ever invited to the televised NFL combine, I believe.  I watched him on TV put up some very impressive numbers.  These guys have helped pave the way and the stigma may be changing somewhat.

He actually wasn't the first D-III guy ever invited to the combine. That has been floating around but is not true.

Small but Slow

I'm not too fond of the theatrics of today's "big time" athletes, but it is a part of the game.  If Garcon runs a sub 4.4 at the combine he will get a look at the least as a free agent.  Then, even if he doesn't make a team the first time he can stick around for a while as a practice squad guy.  If he is patient, keeps his nose clean, and avoid injury he can have a nice little career.  I would loved to see him and Ballard play together at Mount.  Big time arm with big time speed would have been fun to watch.

Just heard from someone very close to the situation that Jim Bickel is officially the man at Capital.

I've heard it too.  Expect an announcement to be forthcoming.

Great choice.  Really a no- brainer.  There was never a need to look outside of the program.

Pierre's straight line speed has always been impressive. What will make it hard for him to come in as a wide out is that he is a ok blocker and doesn't have the "get open" route running capability that the Pros want to see. Films of the Stagg Bowl showed this weakness. I saw the game frame films with a scout so I know. His best shot probably will come as a kick/punt returner as was Stanely's last year.  Then with lot's of off season work , 7 on 7's, etc. and good coaching on techniques he could move up to wide out later.  Raw natural ability, mid-high pro level speed, hand injury questionable not critical, temperment and production against quality corners who press cover are weakness at Pro level. Late round pick possible more likely free agent camp invite and could stick based on team need.

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

Small but Slow

Straight line speed will get Garcon an opportunity.  If he responds to coaching, can learn the reads, cuts, and improve his blocking technique he may stick with a team.  He will definitely have to bulk up and become more physical, but speed will get him a chance.  How long did James Jett hang around in the NFL when he couldn't run a pattern, block, and had hands of stone?

"OK Blocker" ?  Stealth....you always come up with some interesting observations.   ::)

He is/was by the far the best blocking wide receiver I have ever seen at the D-III level that also had his speed/hands.  I don't know specifically how he did in the latest Stagg blocking-wise, but having watched this kid play approximately 20 games in the last three years, he was a BEAST blocking downfield.

As to the rest of your claim, I cannot say.  You and some of your other Whitewater cohorts claim that Garcon was "shut down" by your corners was far from the truth.  Garcon was shut down by the relentless pressure that was put on Micheli.

If Pierre were  6 inches taller,  then his "faults" would be quickly overlooked. Less talented but freakishly proportioned athletes will gain most of the scouts attention. Remember the coaching axiom......I can make a bigger faster player more skilled, but I cant make a more skilled player bigger.  Sometimes it is true, but more often not.  Lots of athletes get roster spots based on the potential that their size/speed holds. Then you waste 3-4 years learning that the athlete doe not have the drive and/or temperment to improve. You see it at every level.

Just curious. Does Mr. Garcon have a Plan B, just in case? Major...minor...future interest?

Looks like MUC can add another former player to the ranks of new Head Coaches. Eric Brock is taking over at Newscomerstown Highschool. And the list just keeps growing......... ;D    Now THERE is a backup plan for Pierre. Share the knowlege! Gonna have to keep an eye out for Newscomerstown next year. GIT ER DONE Eric!

......I still cant believe Randy Knapp isnt catching the ball for somebody in the pros. All the guy did was catch everything thrown his way. The Browns need him as a posession type guy to keep drives alive like Brian Brennan used to do.

Catching passes in the NFL?  Uh?

Before I wonder about the pros, I would have liked to seen him catch passes in his last college game first. >:(

reality check

Pretty sure you better get that personalized jersey when camp starts.  I don't think they let you put the name and corresponding number of players on the jerseys due to merchandising issues.  (Not that the league would be selling many Garcon jerseys if it ever gets that far).

I'd love to see Ballard and Garcon too.  It would finally take some heat off of Rocky for being old.

I'd be surprised if Pierre pulls a 4.3-4.39 time.  I hope I'm wrong but the digitally timed 40's bring a lot of "fast" backs down to earth.

Scotty

Great to see someone is around to ask that question.  And I'm glad to say the Vegas line was right when they had you as the odds on favorite.  We already know you think the OAC is all backwards and nothing but a football factory that the poor lil NCAC can't and doesn't want to compete against.  I've heard Pierre might head on over to Kenyon if things don't work out so he can chase a couple more trophies in the breatstroke or springboard or something.  I guess we will all have to wait with baited breath on that one...and waiting with braited breath will be great practice for when Garcon hits the natatorium.
