Every year there are hundreds of "can't miss" prospects at their assigned levels, who ultimately do. It is a scout's duty to remind in advance about the ways that they can - despite dislike in some quarters for the reminder.

Players transferred from I-A to I-AA long before K.C. Keeler changed jobs.

Is Shoenfelt eligible immediately at Delaware?

Pat Coleman

As long as he was eligible at Ohio State. That's why so many players transfer from I-A to I-AA/FBS to FCS.

Will he have to sit out next year?

It amazes me that with all the information coaches have available to them that there are still so many "can't miss" guys who miss.

Nope, if a player transfers "down" a level, they don't have to sit.

There is a post on the MIAA board about 3 players transferring "down" to SJU next year.  Remember in the past when everyone was all over MTU because they said they were built on D1 Transfers?

KD...I commented on that a year ago.  It seems funny that schools like WW, SJU, and others are excited to see who "lands" as part of the recruiting process.

The weird thing is I can't think of a major contributor from Mount in the last few years that is/was a transfer.  Times have changed.

Thanks.  I wasn't sure if transferring from bowl division to championship division was still considered transferring down.

To me, MUC's secret is its ability to attract marginal DI recruits.  Most of their DI caliber guys have either spent four years in Alliance or transferred from another DIII school.  Mount has not been the beneficiary of DI transfers, contrary to popular belief.  A few years ago there was Kerns and the OT from OSU, but other than that they have been few and far between.

I think Matt Campbell played at Pitt for a year prior to coming to MTU also.

The LB at UWW (Raeburn I think) spent a year at Illiinois State U before becoming a Warhawk too I think.

Sorry, Frank.  Garcon transferred from a d3 program.

You overlooked Garcon.

Garcon was a DIII transfer.  We are talking about players coming from "Upper" divisions.

Also, Kinnard never played at OSU.  There was some sort of Grade issue, but his Dad was also sick and Larry wanted to be close to home (he went to Alliance HS).  He was a top recruit for the Buckeyes though.

Coaches build their programs using different approaches at all levels.  Some of the upper level programs have been built on JC transfers while others have been built recruiting high school seniors.  It's a matter of preference, comfort, and availability of talent.

I think most coaches want to build their programs with their own 4-5 year players.  Sometimes you need to bring in transfers though if you graduate (or lose) a bunch of players at a certain position(s).  Need to fill depth and such.  But with MTU fielding 200 or so players, they usually don't need to bring in transfers.  But, when a player like Garcon comes and rings your bell, you'd be pretty dumb not to invite him in.
