Here's a link to a nice article about former Mount player and graduate assisant coach Zak Lyon  in the Zanesville Times Recorder
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

As a Giants fan, I'm now desperately hoping that their second matchup with New England goes better than many teams' second matchup with Mount Union.  Anyone see a ray of hope for me?

JK...not a Canton/Alliance kid...but not TOO far away.

2007 stats

3500+ yards passing, 30+ touchdowns
800+ yards running, 10+ touchdowns

That might be enough hints for you football gurus to figure it out.   ;)

Would it be the Bedevelsky kid from Brunswick? If so, I saw him on TV and he is a stud!!!

skunks_sidekick

RF....I wish!  That kid is really something.  I would guess he is going to a D-I for sure, although you never know.

It IS a kid that reminds me of Brunswick QB though......

Developing....     ;)

Justin Zwick was ALL THAT in highschool. But he had protection then too. At O-State he was incompatable with his line. The proverbial pocket passer with no pocket protection. His line had some serious growing to do. Still, if you got no wheels....you are gonna invite the blitz. Too bad Justin never really got to show his skills for the Buckeyes. One bowl game to brag about maybe.

skunks: Sonny Jurgensen was an option QB in college.

skunks_sidekick

Frank....now THAT would have been a sight to see!   :o

Jurgensen must have been able to show more than a little to the NFL scouts - he was taken in the fourth round of the draft by the Eagles at a time when there were only 12 teams picking.

Zwick was a much, MUCH better QB as a skinny high school freshman than he was a HS senior.  And I'll go to my grave blaming Shepas for that one.  By the time he was done at Massillon his mechanics and footwork were worse than horrible.  In hindsight, he'd have been better off staying in Orrville.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Small but Slow

I've noticed several noteworthy prospects are not listed.
Several criteria exist for an athlete to be rated on Superprep or the other scouting services.  Some of the services require the coach to purchase a subscription, while others either request the coach or an opposing coach make recommendations and give reports.  Some coaches refuse to do this citing ethical concerns.  Others may just be too lazy or feel their programs are above requiring this sort of publicity for their athletes.

Is he a local kid?

I asked because I heard a rumor from a friend back home (who heard it from someone, who probably heard it from someone, etc... point is it was a pretty weak rumor) that former West Branch QB Steve McNeely was considering MUC.  The generally accepted notion is that McNeely will get some offers to play baseball at a D1 school, but supposedly he said that if he didn't get any interest he was thinking of going to Mount to play football and possibly baseball, as it would be more acceptable and doable to play both at a D3 school.

I talked to my dad and he said he hadn't heard anything along those lines, so I am apt to believe him more than a third hand rumor.  But, I thought you might have heard something floating around out there.  Regardless, McNeely is good, but I didn't think he fit your description to begin with so I didn't think it would be him but thought I would ask.

HAS to be Houseright, stats match exactly.

Spence......ding ding ding.....pay the man!

Here's hoping I didn't put the ole maloika on that possibility.  Like I said.....there is interest in him from some D-I's.  As all of us know, interest doesn't mean OFFER.  So here's hoping he just says heck with all this drama, and decides to attend college where he can compete for a national title every year.

It would be interesting to have a "Tebow-type" running Mount's offense in the future.

skunks_sidekick

JK.....I checked with my "sources" at WB.....they had not heard that either.  They see him every day, so I told one of them to just ask him.
