Spence......ding ding ding.....pay the man!

Here's hoping I didn't put the ole maloika on that possibility.  Like I said.....there is interest in him from some D-I's.  As all of us know, interest doesn't mean OFFER.  So here's hoping he just says heck with all this drama, and decides to attend college where he can compete for a national title every year.

It would be interesting to have a "Tebow-type" running Mount's offense in the future.

There's been a guy going by frogman on bobcatattack.com touting this guy since like October. No offer that I know of from Ohio, and frogman claimed he had offers from several D-Is and interest from places like Mizzou and Kansas. I think it was all bupkis. He claimed something about Bowling Green but BG already has a solid verbal from a QB (Wapakoneta's Keith Morgan I believe).

If NLOID day goes without Housewright signing, it doesn't necessarily mean he can't go D-I, but the chances lessen significantly. Of course he could go as an invited walkon to a MAC school like Perci Garner did.

JK.....I checked with my "sources" at WB.....they had not heard that either.  They see him every day, so I told one of them to just ask him.

Developing........

Like I said, I think it is an unfounded rumor, and I don't know how it started.  The guy I heard it from isn't even a high school friend from West Branch.  He's a college friend who lives in Canton.  He played/ coached baseball and is still plugged into some of the upper level leagues around there.  When I pressed him he said he heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy who was a summer league teammate of McNeely's or something to that effect.  My Dad NEVER mentioned Mount in regards to McNeely.  Like I said, it seems everyone expects him to go to a bigger school to play baseball.  I'm not sure if he is even considring college football as a possibility right now.

I wouldn't have your "sources" waste their time asking him.  I think this is a bunch of crap.  I just wasn't sure if it was really floating around or not, which is why I asked to begin with.

We ALMOST had that a few years ago.

However O'Danny-boy decided to play for the Flaming Pile...........

Doesn't Michelli fit that description?  Or not big enough...
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

I would say Micheli doesn't fit that description because he is leaner/smaller.  Not that he isn't a great runner/passer, we all know he is all of that.  I guess with Housewright's size, it made me flash on a poor D-III man's version of Tebow.

Spence...all good points.  I think though that there is still some "domino effect" stuff happening with some of the Ohio QB's.  If so and so ends up signing here....such and such will then get offered there...etc..etc...

I think one of the reasons Mount has had great success is that they stay on top of those situations.  Going to Mount Union is certainly a pretty nice "consolation prize" for a kid who has skills.  There is a financial concern of course, and I can honestly say I don't know what is the family financial situation with Housewright.

Here's hoping........

Please forgive my ignorance (and also since I am interrupting in the middle of this discussion i.e. having missed the preceding background), but what is "the Flaming Pile"? ??? ;D  It sounds a bit hilarious. ;D ;)  Thanks.

Short answer: "The Flaming Pile" is an OAC Post patterns colloquialism for Baldwin Wallace.  Most of us long-timers remember the original post where that came about.  It was a Doeder classic.  If you are interested in the longer version, read on:

Doeder was a JCU player about the same time as the poster known as 4u.  For quite a while, they were the only two JCU supporters.  Doeder was known for his often ridiculous comments.  As true JCU guys, both had an intense burning hatred of all things BW.  Approximately three seasons ago or so (I can't remember if it was before or after the BW-JCU game that season) Doeder was on a particularly venomous anti-BW rant and referred to BW's colors in general and their uniforms in particular as akin to "flaming piles" of, um, poo.  From then on, us OAC regulars have broken out the "flaming pile" reference when referring to BW.  It has kind of taken on a life of its own and can be used as an adjective when describing BW, or as a replacement for the real "Yellow Jacket" mascot or the school's name itself, such as how hscoach used it.

To further the story, 4u, as the more respected of the JCU posters, tired of Doeder and his antics, and in response to a JCU loss to BW a few years ago traded Doeder's rights to BW.  Doeder hasn't been heard from since.  It is rumored that he is currently undergoing electroshock treatment at an undisclosed location in Berea in a room padded with brown and yellow pillows.   :o  The people in charge of his, um, conversion thought they had made a breakthrough a few years ago using the method of writing "Brown and Yellow are quite lovely colors in the fall" on a chalkboard 1000000 times, but after 999,999 times he wrote "Brown and Yellow looks like a flaming pile" on his last line, so they stepped up the program.  ;D

Of course, that's totally made up,  ;) except for the part about being traded... that actually happened, and we feel pretty confident in saying it is the only such incident in the history of post patterns.

Mr. Ypsi

JK, +k!

I almost answered the question (even a CCIW guy knows that 'flaming pile' is BW in OAC-speak), but I didn't recall the story behind 'why'.

JK:

I agree with Mr. Ypsi! +K for you for a great relating of the story. Indeed, hilarious! ;D  Now after reading your explanation, which swiped away a few cobwebs (key word is "a few" :D) from my aging brain, I do recall very slightly a bit of that.  I have personally met 4u and he is a great guy (and a good coach I might add).  I kindof  figured the explanation would have a flavor (oops, poor choice of words ;D) to it regarding the origin of the term, but Mr. Ypsi is much smarter than I (BTW, he is a great guy also as are you IMO, even though I've not personally met him or you; I have never met Doeder, then again, perhaps that is a good thing? ??? ::) ;D from what you say and the other stories we've heard on here!).  Anyway, thanks for the explanation and a nice laugh for me tonight!  Take care.

Best,

Small but Slow

History will remember Doeder of the Gale Sayers of this board.  His star burned brightly for far too brief a time.  Unfortunately both hall of fame type careers were derailed prematurely.  Sayers' by major injury, Doeder's by the trade.  Newcomers to the board would have gained greatly from the wisdom, insight, and pure class that was Doeder.  May he be remembered fondly by all.

Amen, brother, Amen...

Perhaps we could see if Pat or one of his legions of staffers  ;) at the media giant that is D3sports.com could find the time to do a Sports Illustrated-type "Where Are They Now" piece sometime down the line or possibly an ESPN "Outside the Lines" type expose' on the trade.

(BTW, +k for you for the Gayle Sayers analogy...)

Small but Slow

Several have attempted to become the next Doeder over the years with absurd and inflammatory statements, but lacked the credibility (a term not often associated with him) of this legend.  4u was his Brian Piccolo, offsetting Doeder's insane rants with the tough inside runs of reason and logical thought.

JK - You have offered insight that has stirred the pot upon occasion, but you are far too logical and rational to be the second coming of Doeder.  While you have earned your legendary status on this board through intelligent and evocative insight Doeder earned his through much misplaced angst and perhaps a chemical imbalance.

4u

First of all, gentlemen, I am getting way too much credit.  Although I did pull off what may be seen as the "Herschel Walker Version" of D3 Trades by sending Doeder to the Stingers, I am still humbled by some of your posts.  The irony of comparing my trade with the one which built the Cowboy dynasty is quite compelling.  I, in fact, received zero actual compensation (while the Vikes gave the Cowboys players, several first and second round draft picks, as well as additional late round picks).  That said, I still consider myself equally rewarded.

So, as the world turns we ponder, "What happened to Doeder?"

As many of you know, there was a brief objection, by Doeder, as to the logistics of his trade.  He tried to present a "No Trade Clause" (which was written on a napkin-- in his own hand writing-- with my forged signature), but that was to no avail.  He then offered to "pretend" to accept the trade and work as a spy for the JCU faithful.  At that point, I was forced to remind him that the act of spying (google: Robert Hanssen) requires a high level of intelligence, acting, and street smarts.  Doeder was zero for three.  So, with no other avenue to travel, he became a bit lost.  When the BW hit the fan, Doeder was ultimately banned from our board and despite my pleas to Pat Coleman, his Yellow & Brown fandom is kept private.

So, where is he now?

Now a father, he has begun to spin off a series of books based on the Curious George collection.  They will feature "George" (the monkey) and "the Man in the Yellow hat and the Brown Pants".  His first born son was named Lee Tressel Doeder and he has finally accepted his role in the world of the Flaming Pile.  To fund his writing career, Doeder serves as a Regional Sales Manager for Waste Management, Inc. as he worked his way up by, as he says it, "doing the dirty work."

It's not a pretty story, but it proves that even trades work out...
