just to comment on the PGA v. Superbowl conversation. I think you probably see swelled traffic at the PGA events because they are 4 day tournaments with players coming in as early as Tuesday. So in the end, you have many people surrounding this one locale from Tuesday to Sunday.
The Superbowl is a one day event. Set in a four hour window. Obviously there are events all week, but the epicenter is only active for that one day.

I apologize if this is repeat news....ONU is telling perspective students that a McDonalds is coming to Ada.

That will certainly hurt the Muskies.  Does that leave New Concord as the only non-Mickey D town in the OAC?

Potential recruits, don't be swayed by the Ada news, remember Marietta has at least two McDonalds in its many fast food options!

Where is the McDonalds nearest to Muskingum?  Zanesville?  Newark?  That can be a recruiting tool for them, as well

Don't like fast food?  We're the school for you.

ONU might be gaining a Mickey D's but they'll never replace Hardee's and a 3 am spicy chicken sandwich after a few spirited hours of adult beverage consumption.

It still iritates me that they tore it down and in true Ohio fashion elected to build a Rite Aid (or CVS?) in Hardees' place.  It was one of the last corners in Ohio that didn't have a chain pharmacy on it.  Our fine pharmacy college lost the long-time mom and pop pharmacies in town because of a coporate chain.  It just makes me a little upset.

I think the idea that the Superbowl epicenter only booms for 4 hours or so is really off the mark.  There's a ten mile radius that is totally overwhelmed already and has been nearly intolerable all week.  And there are other pockets of highly attended entertainment all week as well.  And PGA events are typically attended different from what was described with a majority of attendees going for one or two of the four days and a minority attending the entire duration of the event;  that said, the FBR is far from typical.  It's the "rock concert" of PGA events and is less about golf and more about the experience from everything I have heard out here.

From a "fan" perspective, you can get it all in the Valley of the Sun this week.  The Suns/Spurs square off for the first time since Horry body-blocked and bloodied Steve Nash in the playoffs, the FBR is the go-to event Friday/Saturday and the Super Bowl on Sunday make for a dream weekend (if your wallet is thick enough).

It's a little known fact about Baldwin Wallace that a hot dog stand located near campus attracted many people and particularly young men who wanted to play football at BW.The owner made large contributions to the athletic department and low and behold the football uniform colors slowly but surly took on the look of a hot dog with mustard. Some of us fans longer in the tooth still yell out.." F....Hot Dogs!" every time we see a BW football or basketball player.

Hotdogs, eh?  That's pretty funny.

And it also ties nicely to their current Flaming Pile moniker.  Which can be the result of eating too many cheap hotdogs with chili sauce or kraut.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

I always heard that ONU was the farthest college campus from a McDonald's in the United States.  I don't know what one would do to verify these facts but I can vouch for the fact that the nearest Mickey D's is about 20 miles away in Lima.  And Lima (the big city) is just an acronym for Lost In the Middle of America.

Sorry RC but the closest McDonald's is about 9 miles away in Bluffton.

Alliance used to have a Dairy Queen and Taco Bell right across State Street from the MUC campus.  I don't think either remain.  The Bell was always a popular stop on the way home from a night at the Bier Haus.  Nothing better than a bean burrito on top of a belly full of beer, and digging for spare change for a Blizzard on a warm spring or fall afternoon is a fond collegiate memory.

During my years at MUC there was some sort of a pizza delivery pricing war.  16" one item pizzas delivered in under 30 minutes for $5!  If you had the coupon.

Government once again is turning its attention to sports.

I think I read somewhere that are economy is on the brink of recession, the job market is in decline, and many citizens don't have adequate health care.  Yet congress is investigating "spygate".

A little late to the conversation but regarding the "culture" we recieved in college I was exposed to German culture at the Leipzig Haus, Irish culture at TT Murph's, English culture at Old Bag of Nails, Indian culture at the Beverage Drive Thru on "the other side of the bridge" on Main Street and urban culture at Kroger and Clowson Field.

sorry for the tardy reply. I believe the gentleman was talking about a pga event that was in tampa. I know the FBR is amazing. Take one look at the 16th hole and you will know that there is nothing normal about that event. The FBR is expecting 600,000 people during the 4 day tournament. 200,000 on saturday alone.

I was trying to make a point that a golf tournament is literally a week long event and the superbowl is one day.  That might explain why the golf tournament seemed to make the town seem more congested.
