Garcon's chance is as a return specialist, ala Josh Cribbs, but few teams spend a draft pick on a return specialist.

Yeah who knows the last time a team spent a draft pick on a Division III return specialist?!?   ::)

Given what the Rams did with Derek Stanley last year, it's harder to make this reference to the impossibility of being drafted under the aforementioned circumstances.

I agree with RC. The more impact that returns guys are having IE: Hester, Cribbs, etc. I feel that NFL teams are looking more and more for a guy that makes the other team squib a kickoff and put them at the 35-40 rather than have their return guy touch it. I'm not saying Pierre is at that level because he is not... but he could get there, and I feel that potential warrants a serious look. If the scouts need any evidence they can look at that Texas vs Nation return.

skunks_sidekick

Word I get is that Pierre is currently working out in Atlanta with a trainer/facility who is  prepping him for the combine.  It will be interesting to see how he stacks up against the other receivers/returners when he gets there.

He better run a crazy 40 time if he wants drafted.

Personally, I think his injury history will be his downfall in the draft.  If I was a GM, I'm not sure I want to draft a marginal NFL talent at WR to play special teams when he didn't play an entire season at D3 Mount Union without getting injured.  Twice being the same type of hand/wrist injuries.

If he can't hold up against D3 guys where he's a physical speciman, how can one expect him to hold up against NFL guys where he's now considered small?

I'd love to see Garcon drafted just to see Mount Union scroll across the ESPN ticker on draft day.  Unless he runs great at the combine, I just don't see it happening.

But then again, I never would have though Derek Stanley would get drafted either.

I would like to congratulate Capital on bringing back Coach Robert White.  He will do a great job at whatever position he is given... He was a hard worker as an o-line coach when i was a Freshmen... He then switched to defense and the d-line flourished..

WOW that is a big name in Manny Matsakis beging named offense coordinator

Capital

Your new offensive coordinator owns the record for longest field goal in Crusaders history.  Will that be the new offensive strategy?  Spitz ought to be happy.

How does a kicker ever get to be an offensive, defensive or head coach in the first place???  This has to be one of the signs of the apocolypse.

Does anyone know where i can find the salary listings for coaches? I know that Paterno lost that lawsuit to keep his private, and was wondering where I could find it.  That said, do all NCAA coaches have their salaries posted? Im very interested in the salaries of coaches like   App St GVSU and Delaware.

I don't know if there's an all-encompassing list but JoePa earned approximately $512K in 2007.

Finding stuff on App State and GVSU might be tough to find since so few people care nationally.  (Sounds like the typical plight of a small school football fan doesn't it?!?)

But unlike most of the list, Paterno and his wife have donated millions to the University. At least enough to have a library named after him.

And Matsakis was a straight on kicker.  You real old timers know what I am talking about, the guys who used to wear the one shoe with the square toe, like Lou Groza...

Manny has had a pretty remarkable career.  HC at Emporia St (KS), then on to TX Tech for a few years where he was the Special Teams Coord (Now, that makes sense, Reality  ;D).  He was then the HC at Texas State (the real one (Wildcats), not the "Necessary Roughness" (Armadillos) one), for one year.  Unfortunately there were some NCAA violations and when the new AD was hired there he thought it best to make a fresh start.

Regardless, he has been pretty successful everywhere he has been.  It should be interesting to see what, if any changes take place.  Remember, he was an assistant under the mad offensive scientist that is Mike Leach at TX Tech.  Could end up being MORE passes than under Collins.

Was in attendance to see Groza make his most important kick. You old timers know which one I'm identifying. You others don't care.

As a Mount guy, I hope that is the case.  One dimensional means easier to defend ;D

Reality Check,

You must not have researched him very well talking about a kicker becoming an offensive coordinator...
two head coaching stints is pretty good....
coaching at the DI  level, I forgot is not impressive at all

reality check

Yeah clearly I didn't research him since I pointed out he was a kicker...infallible logic.  If I don't mention other coaching then I must not have known about it.  Great call 2minuteO.

It was a joke.  A quick wikipedia search told me all about his Emporia State, Texas Tech, etc. experience.  But the fact he was a kicker in college and he's become Cap's O Coordinator still makes for a funny progression.

hscoach

Regarding your point about passing and being one-dimensional; it's not like Capital has ever been known for it's running game.  In the program's history only one player has ever eclipsed the 1000 yard mark.   Cap's only had two 900 yard rushers in a season besides that and the second most prolific single season runner needed 13 games to get to his number.  I'd hope if I was a CAP fan that the offense becomes more two-dimensional.
