Or you could go here so you don't have to type all those names in there:

Combine Top Performers
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

J.Don Montgomery nearly took the Marietta job when it last opened. He loved the campus and the people.Personally,I'd rather see the young Mount coaches go out of conference so they don't have to scale Everest each year to avoid getting blown out by LK and the Raiders.Spence is being too hard on Coach Siriani at WJU,and overlooking the good he does those young men and his school.

I'm not overlooking anything. He might be the nicest guy in the world but even in D-III, the standard is on the field and I don't see where Siriani has significantly changed the level of that program. If W&J were in the OAC, what would their record be? Would they be a playoff team? I'm skeptical.

If this whole discussion had been about doing good things for the players and the school then it would have never happened and the people that worship coach "I'll learn your name by your junior year" wouldn't have as much a reason to turn what was once a reasonable thread into a idiotic dick-measuring contest, mostly between themselves.

I'm not nearly as technologically advanced as kirasdad, so I'll just put the whole link here:

A story from NFL.com about small-school prospects at the combine that has a short feature on Mr. Garcon.

Writer was incorrect:
Quote
Garcon is only the second player from Division III Mt. Union to get an invite to the combine, and the first never made it to the NFL.

Ballard did have a cup of tea with the Bills I believe.

Small but Slow

Don't forget Scott Woolf who hung around the Cowboys and Raiders for a few seasons in the late 80's-early 90's.  He was the first QB to lead MUC to an OAC crown and into the playoffs, as well.

Acky

I believe Chris Kern was with the Lions through the first two games of the season a couple of years ago.

reality check

We can list lots of players that got looks, cups of coffee, or hung around but Kirasdad is right and the writer's premise was based on combine participation.  Kern, Woolf, etc. weren't combine attendees.

Technically Adamson was at the combine (if you can count standing around in the lobby at the RCA Dome trying to get a scout's attention.)

Technically it's "an idiotic" there Spence.  I'm normally not a grammar and spelling hound but since you've never been wrong, I thought it was necessary to point out the first time in your life you've made a mistake.  Welcome to the club.
OAC Champs: 1942 (one title ties us with Ohio State)

At many schools the standard is not just on the field.  Many schools want to be competitive and their players to be good students also.  If a coach achieves this and the players are graduating and are good citizens on campus the school feels they are successful and they may keep a coach who's teams are hovering around .500.

W&J is not in the OAC so that is a ridiculous question.  If you aunt had nads she would be your uncle.  He has done a very good job and is successful and if his kids are graduating and becoming mature adults under his tutelage it is a successful program and what DIII is all about.

"In the end we will survive rather than perish not because we accumulate comfort and luxury but because we accumulate wisdom"  Colonel Jack Jacobs US Army (Ret).

Small but Slow

It's obvious that not every DIII school is interested in competing for national or even conference superiority.  Even some DI schools don't concern themselves with winning football games.  Many schools approach athletics in an almost co-curricular approach where the focus is on building character, leadership skills, and having fun.  It seems to me that those virtues can be achieved while also pursuing championships.

Why so bitter Spence? Me thinks you must have lost one of these contests :-\

Does anyone else see the irony of someone from Marietta taking shots at Washington and Jefferson???
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Which would be a 4.5 favorite over the Marietta football team.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Why does the analogy of "taking a knife into a gunfight" come to mind when I think of Spence competing in this?
