Wonder if that'll work on the girl I'm working on right now.

"You know...Friday's is Men's Valentine's Day...um...ya gonna give anyone a gift?" (wink, wink; nudge, nudge).

New topic...

Anyone have any opinions on Heidelberg OC Jeff Filkovski as a Marietta head coach candidate possibility?

If you were married, you'd be lucky to just get the steak.

Every couple of months.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Small but Slow

I explored the terms in the Urban Dictionary a bit.  It's a good way to expand the vocabulary and a reminder that there are some sick puppies out there.  The Boston Pancake and Cleveland Steamer, in particular are so disgusting that a person who even imagines that crap (literally) needs psychological help.  Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

And people wonder why Gov Spitzer of NY spent 80K on ho's.

reality check

I admit that I had little knowledge on HC's Filkovski.  After reading his bio and knowing what the Student Princes did last year under a first-yr coach and staff, I think he would be best suited staying put.  He hasn't proven much, there's a lot to build on and he has the opportunity to really establish himself as a very respectable OC in his second year with Heidelberg under Coach Hallett.  He'd be taking a step up in titles at Marietta but he'd be taking a step back in other areas in my opinion.  He has plenty of coaching experience but I think what he has taken on at the Berg is more dynamic than taking on the challenge at Marietta.  If he really wants to be a head coach in the OAC though, then sure why not!?!

I was also intrigued to read that two former ONU'ers were on last year's staff in Richard Roudybush as a GA and Denver Williams as a passing coordinator/WR coach.  Roudybush was a good kid and played tough as an undersized lineman.  Williams was part of the Kaz regime and ultimately a casualty of the cleaning house as I recall.  I always though Denver was a good guy and glad to see he's on the Berg's staff.

It appears that St John Fisher will have a lot of new faces on their coaching staff when Mount plays them this fall including a new quarterbacks coach, Rob Kramer, who started at quarterback for Fisher in 2006 and 2007.

Well I was kind of thinking more from MC's perspective, whether he would be a good hire for them (if he were to be hired). You don't think that being the QB coach at UC under Minter has any kind of value? Or in NFL Europe?

Was also wondering about people who know him...what kind of individual he is (outgoing, soft-spoken, shoot from the hip, pensive...whatever). What kind of charisma he has...all that stuff you can't get from a bio.

Spence,

I know Mike Hallett really likes what JF can do for a QB/offense.  Its not common to have a guy that won a National Title at QB, coaching QBs for a division 3 college.

His resume/experience speaks for itself... with that in mind, I think they'll do everything possible to keep him at Heidelberg.

He WOULD turn out to be a good hire for MC...but he's moved around a bit.  Do you think Etta will hesitate this time to hire someone who looks to be using a step ladder?

No idea about if they would get gun-shy. They shouldn't, in my opinion, because the Wisconsin guys have raised the level of the program, even if they did leave for what it's pretty hard to argue aren't better jobs.

BUT...Filkovski didn't move at all from his first GA job until Minter got fired at UC. From 1996-2003 he was at the same job; that's somewhat unusual for a D-I assistant at a non-power program. He went the NFL scout route for a year, then I'm not sure what he did in 2005 (doesnt' seem to be represented on his bio), then went across the river from Cincinnati to TMC and stayed with Hallett in going to Heidelberg.

He hasn't moved around NEARLY as much as a lot of coaches do in D-I. Maybe he would leave if Matlak and Allegheny parted ways at some point (not that I think Allegheny is a notably better program *right now*, but it is the alma mater) or a D-II in PA or somewhere came calling, but IMO that's a chance worth taking.

reality check

If I was a decision maker at Marietta, I'd be concerned that the Allegheny alum would only be taking the position to pad the resume with some HC experience until something in PA opens up as you eluded to.  I would agree that the previous coaches have helped the program but I would also think that the Marietta administration would be looking for a candidate that doesn't appear to the novice eye to be likely to use this position as other coaches have and look to jump from the ship when another option opens up.  Any program that has gone through the number of HC's Etta has over recent years would likely want a good prospect for stability and a little longevity the next time around.

All that said, he could well be the guy that does give them stability and longevity.  Who knows.

Saintsfan is as reliable a source as there is on TMC guys and if he says Hallett would likely do whatever it takes to keep the guy, then I would think he'll be hard to drag away from the Student Princes.
