Just remember that old Seventies teaches Internet Research to the Google Generation (who may be (read 'are') more computer illiterate than their grandparents)

PS Most of my buddies around here are truely excited to get Jason out of Nordonia. Somehow there is an invisible wall across the northside of Stark County that insulates it from Northeast Ohio. What happens in Stark County, stays in Stark County.

When I got to Mount Union, the summit of Ohio Football was Alliance, McKinley and Massillon. I remember watching the fights outside the Friday night games from third floor McCready Hall. I went to HS in Nebraska so I was totally unimpressed till years later.

All I have to contribute to the Hall/Massillon/legacy discussion is the fact that 2006 5A State Champ Chandler Hamilton HS came to Massillon in 2006 and got beaten by a down Massillon team (6-4 I think).  Hamilton is the top high school program in the state of Arizona for years now.

I was at that game and AZ Hamilton was not a team that could grind out a tough drive. But, what a knockout punch they could throw on any given play! They were all about the big play. Massillon got a couple of stops and made them play catch up ball. It not their forte. Still, AZ was damn good.

For all the experts that say that Massillon is a has been......then why are so many teams STILL  AFRAID to schedule them? Only teams with an exceptional amount of talent in any given year will even give it a try. Or if you are a parochial powerhouse with 1500 male students as an advantage....then you should have no fear. Economics is the real force behind  the slide in their program. Economics is still the reason kids go to Massillon also. (think exposure, scholarship potential).

Hall will find it hard to fill the schedule. Whoever Massillon plays always brings everthing they've got to the game. Its still a great measure of where you are in your program.  Unless.....you would rather not really know. Then just sign up for the payday....its VERY generous by most teams standards.

Do you think Hall will employ any other MUC alums as assistants? I wouldnt mind!

The original Repo article posted listed Beau Balderson and Mike Elder as possible assistant candidates.

I also hear it's a great place to pickup 12 year old girls looking for a good time too. >:(

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Would you rather coach where the fans take football too seriously or where they take it not seriously enough? While Massillon football is not currently (and probably will never be again) at the level it was during the Brown, Mather or Strang eras, it usually plays a tough schedule well. It is true that no head coach has ever stayed at Massillon for more than 9 years, but the head coaching position is a potential stepping stone to major advancement in one's coaching career. By the same token if a head coach does not meet the very high expectations of the Massillon fans (even though he might have met the expectations of more normal
{and consequently less demanding} fans), he knows in advance of taking the position that he will be signalled to move on.

Seems like most have echoed my sentiments to some degree.  My only response is related to the "people afraid to schedule Massillon" comment.  I think back in the day there was an intimidation factor present for sure.  Now it is more about Massillon's unwillingness to schedule home/home series with anyone.  Their pitch is always "but we can get 20,000 people in our stadium...you will make more $$.....we don't want to play at your paltry stadium".......

They have made inquiries, and shown interest in joining the Federal league but to this point have been rebuffed due to a variety of factors.

Hopefully, Jason can instill that Raider pride and toughness to the team and bring them back up to the level they always THOUGHT they were.

I agree 100%.

During the Brown era they probably actually were where they thought they were.

JUSTDOIT

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, after many college visits my son has committed to Baldwin Wallace. He had a partial scholarship to Robert Morris and more less a full to Malone, but decided on BW because of his education plans fit better with their majors, and their head coach and staff were really great every time he went there.
He is from a school in stark county that plays in the federal league, I think two of his team mates are going to join him there also, I have posted on other sites that talk about high school football and really enjoyed reading and posting on them, then I found this site about a month ago and have been reading the posts and decided to register and join in.
I look forward to many years of reading and talking about D3 football.

Welcome to the board -- hope you have a thick skin because sometimes the regulars here like to play rough. :)

One more addition to the flaming pile of BW!! ;D

Welcome Aboard JUSTDOIT.  +1Karma, just for joining!

We have fun, but Pat is right--we do like to pick on each other more than a little, and since you will be a new representative for the pee yellow and (expletive) brown, expect us to spread it on a little thick for a while.

What position did your son play in HS and what does he hope to play in college?

Welcome aboard.  With as good a tradition as BW has, their representation on this message board on a whole has always been less than I would have expected.  I wish you and your son the best of luck as you start your OAC adventure.  The fact that you claim to have followed along for the last month and still decided to post despite certain shenanigans is either impressive or a sign of insanity.  Either way, welcome to the page.

Onusports.com reports today that Lenny Trusnik and Steve Gunter worked out today at the athletic center for scouts from the New York Giants and the Jacnsonville Jags with an additional workout for the Browns set for Gunter on April 12.  Apparently they had solid days and Trusnik is being looked at as a potential FB.

I had no idea they were getting this kind of attention.  Based on Gunter's 40 times, I wish injuries and other circumstances wouldn't have kept Garcon and Gunter from having some great battles.  Oh well.

Best of luck to them as they try to impress the scouts.
