Yeah, the kids first priority is to seperate themselves from their parents rule. They think the further the better. Sometimes its the parents that suffer from seperation anxiety the most though. My son played for the same soccer coach for many years and when his son went away to Ohio State for college, the father/coach wasnt able to let go as fast as the son. After several successive "surprise visits" on weekends, the kid finally told the parents to GO HOME and stop dropping in unannounced! Feelings definately got hurt. Im sure everythings OK now though.

Agreed.  The WB kids that go to MUC, even the non-athletes, historically have been from the end of the district closer to Salem.

hscoach,
I had almost the exact same thought when deciding on College.  Which is why I settled on #1 Cap and #2 Otterbein.  Close enough to get home if something happens but far enough to preclude the "drop in."

WB star Scott Thomas is at MUC now, after transferring in from Ashland. Scott seems to be doing well here after getting settled in.

I would have to imagine that very few kids want to attend college 10 miles from Mom & Dad.

I know when I was looking at schools, the first requirement was it had to be far enough away to guarantee that Mom wouldn't show up unannounced.

Reminds me of a joke.  A father had business in the town where his son attended college so he decided to drop by unexpectedly to surprise his son and take him out to dinner.  He knocked on the door of his son's frat house and a voice called out from inside.  "Ya?"  The father asked, "does John Smith live here?"  The voice hollered back, "Ya, just leave him on the porch and we will drag him in later!"   ;D

You're right.  Forgot about him.  But, he's really the first since Candle.

The perfect distance for a college choice: Far enough away the parents don't just drop in; close enough to campus you can drive home for a weekend once in a while so mom can do your laundry.

*Bonus points if the school is located somewhere the parents would never have an excuse to "just be in the area" for....like Ada.

How true. my son has just enough clothes in his frat room closet so that he only has to wash clothes when he comes home on breaks. It seems he is repulsed by the idea of coin operated laundry equipment.....even though it is there in his frat residence. I pity his poor girlfriend who usually makes the 3 hour drive home with him with all that stinky laundry in a compact car. ::) Sometimes he brings a buddy home with him on breaks and they both tie up the washer and dryer for days.  Oh well, at least he is in school. ;D And by the way.......distance from home WAS a major factor in his decision for choosing his school. 3 hours way was comfortable enough for him.

The only tricky part I had to deal with was the fact my grandmother lived just half an hour away in Wapakoneta.  That left a window of opportunity for mom to make a sidetrip but she never acted on that opportunity.  I guess my saving grace was the fact she knew I lived in Ada too and who really wants to head to Ada unless they have to be there?!?

That is why I went into the Navy after high school, didn't have to worry about mom popping in for a visit on the sub.  Then I went to college at the age of 30, young enough to still have a little fun old enough to corrupt the morals of younger students.

My mom actually stopped by campus at Mount to drop something off my "SENIOR" year. (I was 54 that year). 8)

Given who I was in my twenties,  she would have called ahead (or brought the SWAT team)

How much trouble can a fine young man on the track team get into? Do a Fosbury Flop?  ;)

Or maybe a threat a concern of being caught in the midst of a "Western Roll?"  That sure dates me... ;D    Edit to eliminate redundancy  :-[

It looks like I will finally be offered a job...

in El Paso.

It's a great job with a military contractor, but I finally got back close to home and now it looks like I will be moving west again.

I guess I'll end up like Reality, jonesing for D3 football and trying to work in a game when we come home to visit the family (which never flies, by the way, given the limited time for "visiting").
