I'm sure most of y'all saw it, too, but I wanted to be sure everyone sees Mount Union's mention in this week's Sports Illustrated.  In the By the Numbers section, they make a note that both MUC and Wheaton had more players drafted this year than Alabama did.  Even mentions both Studebaker's and Garcon's names.

I'm back with one of my barely related to DIII football posts...but this one also is barely related to Mount Union

Hobart College, home of 12 straight DIII national lacrosse championships (1980-1991 plus 1993) has decided to drop back from DI lacrosse in part because they couldn't compete at the DI level because of their restrictions on scholarships.

Looks like Hobart flip flopped on the D3 lacrosse decision.  They are going back to D1 due to pressure from students and alumni.

They changed their mind again.

Mount Union Recruits in the news:
Here's three
Barron Collier, Naples hold signing ceremonies Wednesday; Gulf Coast's today

Make that 4.  WR Ry Davis from Gulf Coast HS is joining Pitingolo at MUC.  He was mentioned in the above article, but it didn't say where he was going for some reason.  It looks like he was their leading receiver last year.

^^^^ Now it's even more fun.  I never thought I'd see the day where OAC recruiting battles were being waged in Naples, FL.

"I was planning on going to a different school in the same conference (Ohio Northern) but they're rivals (with Mount Union)," Davis added.

James Starks has been invited to the Bengals camp.

How does the recruiting process work for the Fla kids?  Do the kids visit?  Do they pay for the visit?   I don't think MU coaches can go to Fla.  Or is it with zero D3 schools in Fla they go to MU to play for titles?

I don't know how the ball got rolling, but there were 18 players on the MTU 2007 roster from FL.

I assume there is a lot of word of mouth recruiting going on now.

I've been told Mount Union has some alums who are coaching high school in Florida and recommending their students come to Alliance.

I love reading these newspaper stories about the kids from Florida signing to go to Mount Union or other Division III schools. What are they signing? The deposit check that they are sending to the school?
