Looking forward to the new improved OLD STIFF ;D   Don't eat any tacos 24 hrs prior to surgery :P   I did before my back surgery........ makes things interesting :-X

wow..  As someone who's had quite a few surgeries, I know that most places give you the equivalent of immodium AD intravenously.

Was it not administered to you during the "Taco Run"??  I bet your nurses were happy..

Seventies...Best of Luck! All of us will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

I guess you could say that it's all how you look at Mount's games with regards to whether their games are boring or not. Most games are a way to see the starters for about a half and then watch some of the new talent. It can give you an insight as to what is to come. And it's especially fun to watch for another "star" being born. And yes, for ten games we fans are just preparing ourselves for the post season...that's just they way it is.

Even though it's unlikely, I'm pulling for LK to unleash Nate and let him run crazy this year. In some area of Nate's mind do you think he'd like a national rushing record?

From a player's perspective, I'd echo TooForRaider's sentiments.  I go back to high school ball and recall my senior year against our arch rival to illustrate the idea.  We came from behind to win 21-17 with less than a minute left after a miraculous punt return by our all-state quarterback (who had not returned a punt in his high school career) set up the go-ahead touchdown.  The comeback was storybook.  Fans rushed the field to celebrate what we all thought was a win to put us into the playoffs (back when four teams made the regionals).  As great a story as that was I remember being totally emotionally and physically spent and not even wanting to be in the celebration from the parents, student body or even my girlfriend.  I sat in the auxiliary bleachers at the end of the field while the party took place at midfield.  I was absolutely fried.

I would gladly trade a 21-17 comeback win for a 42-10 game one hundred times over as a player.  But as a fan, the first choice is obviously the more desirable to watch.

Any word out of MUC camp about the progress of the offensive line?  With five new starters, and a tough early schedule, this may be the biggest challenge for the Raiders.  As good as Nate is, he can't do the blocking.

Any word on the receiving corps? Is there any Frosh tearing it up? Will there be any depth behind Cecil and Chad?

When I was in highschool we had one team in the conference that was in a very remote town and only had about 500 kids in the Jr and Sr high total and the football team was usually around 20 kids.  They played their hearts out but got their butts kicked almost every week.  The players loved it, the Varsity starters would play the first quarter, the JV starters and the rest of the backups would play the second and some of the third and then the freshman would finish the game as this school had no freshman team.  We loved seeing kids that almost never got playing time in a varsity game under the lights get to play.  It was boring to watch when I went to a game after I graduated and wasn't playing anymore.

Off the football subject for a minute...what about the little league baseball player (9yrs old) who is not allowed to pitch anymore because he throws to hard.  Are you kidding me?  Apparently teams have left the field and refused to let their kids face this kid.  Even though he can only pitch a few innings and has never hit a kid.  What kind of lesson is being taught here?  If you face somebody really good quit.  This is why many of the kids today are much softer than years past.  I may be old school but hearing things like this drives me crazy.

Off my soapbox...back to football.

I saw that story and couldn't believe it.  As a guy that has coached one and/or both of my boys in the last 6 years of Little League Baseball, this story just pisses me off.  Guess we should have just walked off the field when our team had no chance to compete?

It's no wonder the USA is going to be China's Little Bitch by the time my kids are grown.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Part of the lesson of sports is the ability to deal with adversity.  To pull your kids off the field because the other player is "too good", is sending a clear message to the young folks on both teams.  Thank goodness our wonderful troops don't display the same mentality in Iraq.  The "wimping" of our youth continues........

Albeit a rare occurrence, the velocity of this kid's pitches may create primarily or exclusively a safety issue. If so, have him play against suitably quicker and presumably older kids.

I was absolutely appalled when I saw (or heard, more appropriately, on ESPN Radio) this story, too.  I'm almost at a complete loss for words.

Of course, this happened in Connecticut, the same state where the HS Athletic Association instituted a rule that if you beat another team by too much in football, your coach is suspended for the next week's game.  I have heard that this rule has led to some teams, as early as the third quarter in some blowouts, punting on first down from deep in their own territory, apparently hoping that the other team can score so they can run a few more plays for their backups and others.

That's a bull**** argument, Frank, and you know it.  I don't know if you are just trying to play devils advocate here and stir the pot or try to present the "other side," but it's still crap.

The kid has done nothing wrong other than be too good for one parent/ coach, who got the powers that be who run the league to buy his crap about safety.  The kid qualifies to play against the other 9 year olds, why should he be punished for being good.  Now, if he WANTS to play against older kids... fine, but only if HE wants to.  That shouldn't be mandated by anyone else.

I know this could change any second, but the kid hasn't hit anyone yet this season, not one batter.  What's the safety issue?  Plus, apparently the kid hits a whopping 40 mph.  As a 9 year old that is fast, as a 10-11 year old, that's a home run if it's in the middle of the plate.  Not to mention, if I remember correctly, 8-9 year olds pitch from a 40ft mound; at 10, they move back to 50ft.  Big difference there, too.  More reasons why he shouldn't be forced up.

40mph from a 40 ft mound is fast, but isn't going to kill anyone, not even another 9 year old.  It might hurt a little, but it sure isn't going to crack a helmet, even if he does get loose and hit another kid in the head.

There is no reason for this other than someone doesn't want their son to get his feelings hurt because he struck out.

Decisions like these are fact intensive, and I'm not sure that we have all the facts.
