Speaking of my students not knowing about D3 Ball.

If anyone comes across a poster or pennant from an OAC team this year in a bookstore or at a game and it is a decent price (Under $10, remember I am a teacher now starting at the bottom of the ladder), let me know.  I can't find anything good on the MTU Bookstore website and I need MTU (or any other OAC) stuff to hang in my room.

It would be cool to have pennants from each OAC school that I could hang together, sort of like flags at a game.

Thanks!

So, it is the 8th day of school down here in FL (We already had one Hurricane Day last week) and I am showing my first video in class of the year.

Gives me time to get other work done in class.

Bill Nye Examines Inventions in Business and Math!  LOL

I don't have to show videos because I have 26 computers in my classroom AKA Electronic babysitters

Well, I have 24 17" IMacs, 1 20" IMac and 8 MacBook Laptops, so there.  :)

I just don't trust them enough to let them at them untethered yet though. LOL

What - you're afraid they'll visit d3boards.com/OAC and recognize you? 8)

Probably, I think they know my daughter's name, but most MS kids in FL don't know what D3 Football is.  LOL
I'm getting my classes ready to go on the computers next week (hopefully).  Unfortunately, unlike kirasdad I am in an area severely effected by the recession and housing crisis and have only 13 Dells to babysit my kids.  I do have saws and other tools they can amuse themselves with, though.

My class is Computer Applications in Business.  Keyboarding and Microsoft Office skills.  We do have a class called "Computer Technology" where they have the cool stuff.  Mini CNC machine looks awesome.

I am at a new school, so all my equipment is new so that is nice.

Those CNC machines are awesome, just chuck up a hunk of steel and watch it go.  KS used to love them when he was a machinist.  Get the program from the designers, install the program, set up the machine and run off a few test pieces, then let the operator do the boring work.  This was 20 years ago, I can only imagine what they can do now.

give the bookstore a call, I know for a fact that they carry MUC pennants.  They just dont put that much stuff up on the website for some reason.  Or I'm sure one of the MUC people on here might be able to snag one for you at a game

Before he screwed up his back he was.  That is why he didn't go to college until the age of thirty.

I finally got grade reports in from last year.  Because we are a new school, the grades didn't transfer in properly.  I had to inform 7 young men that they were academically ineligilbe.  All they had to do was have a 2.0 GPA for 2007-2008 Yearly Cumulative, 2nd Semester, or 4th Quarter.  Unfortunably, we didn't have these kids last spring (school jsut opened this year) so I lost some good players.

I lost:
Starting RB/LB  (8th Grader)
Starting RB/LB and 2nd Team QB  (7th Grader)
Starting OT  (8th Grader)
Backup C  (8th Grader)
3 other scout team players

I did get permission to give them the option to stay on the team and practice (be scout team members) but not play and 4 of them suited up for practice anyway.  We'll see if they stick it out through the season.  I tild them it is like going to FB camp for free for 7 weeks and we will help them get in shape for other sports this year as well as keep on them for grades.

k'dad, I am glad that you are there for those players.

This may be the season that those four players turn their lives around.

Making the sacrifice to practice and to commit to you that they will get their grades up is a wonderful lesson for them to learn.

May God give you the insight that you need as you deal with those four everyday! :)

I understand how bad that is to find out now but in Arizona, we have to check the kids' grades weekly and if they're failing one class, they're done 'til they get the grade up.  So we get to do grade checks weekly; a headache when all we wanna do is coach.  The worst part is that all three levels in the high school program find out Wednesdays after school ends who is eligible and who is not.  We are the lucky team that plays Wednesdays so we literally find out at 3:10 on Wednesdays who we get to dress out for games less than three hours later.

The positive is that a kid isn't "one and done" like most states and they get a chance to get their grades back in order.

From the Colts website:
All nine players selected in the 2008 NFL Draft – guard Mike Pollak, linebacker Philip Wheeler, tight end Jacob Tamme, defensive end Marcus Howard, running back Mike Hart, wide receiver Pierre Garcon, guard Steve Justice and center/guard Jamey Richard – made the 53-man roster, as did four rookie free agents: defensive end Curtis Johnson, linebacker Jordan Senn, safety Jamie Silva and defensive tackle Eric Foster.

We are doing grade checks every two weeks, but are also going to continue throughout the rest of the year for any athletes (whether they are in season or not).  We want our 6th and 7th graders eligible for next season and want our 8th graders to be eligible for HS ball.  We don't have any official policy on grades during season, but my AD and I share the same opinion that the classroom comes first and are going to stay on them.
