725 students in the Mount Union freshman class. There were barely 1100 on the whole campus when I first showed up in the fall of 1966. Guess we have to keep up with the Wisconsin schools. lol The economy must not be that bad.  8)

BTW Have great Labor Day

seventies:

Indeed, it is amazing to see how things have changed over the years.  Like your MUC, Hope has a tremendously larger enrollment now.  This years freshman class was 800 and it has been in the 700's now for the last 5 years or so.  Back in my playing days at Hope, it only had about 2200 students (still larger than the other MIAA schools except for Calvin, although the latter has many commuter students), and now Hope is steadily at about (or just under) 3200 and maintaining that.  They could do even more, however, do not have the room, land right now, although they continue to acquire surrounding parcels for future campus growth.  From my "inside" sources, they want to remain at this # for a while now.  I do like, though, how Hope has maintained it's oldest buildings and the original campus for tradition, even with its recent expansion and wonderful new buildings, including the huge DeVos Athletic Fieldhouse (with its nearly 4000 seat bb arena, NBA electornic scoreboard and permanent individual stadium orange colored seats.  They are currently renovating and restoring one our "Old Mains", the 1898 Graves Hall, a wonderful old Queen Ann Victorian stone type building.

Sorry if I've bored you and others, but thought I would share this info.  I do like how Mount has done very similar in maintaining some of their oldest campus buildings and, of course, your neat stadium even with the new expansion and the wonderful hospital across the street.

Guess with all the expansion of the campus and enrollment (not to forget the status of the football programs at both of these schools and others), it is not surprising that the numbers reporting for the fb teams have skyrocketed in recent years.

Mount has maintained a number of historic buildings. The stadium still looks like it did for the most part in the late 1930's. Chapman Hall was gutted to the bare brick wall and rebuilt inside those historic walls. Miller Hall dates to the Civil War and Elliot Hall was recently modernized. Thankfully East Hall which was thrown up to house post war GI students finally bite the dust.

I was recently amazed to find how small my Mount dorm room was, when my son stayed in my old residence hall for football camp. I can't believe I shared that little room with another human being.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Ric

I'm sorry its been a long and busy summer for me and I haven't been on here in a while. HScoach told me yesterday I needed to check the board as there were questions thrown my way but it looks like he's handled them. I'll try to be a regular moving forward now that the season is upon us. And yes I too am very ready for football!

As HScoach said, it does look like our broadcasts will be on the world wide web this year, thanks in large part to the efforts of the new SID at Mount Union. There should be links from www.muc.edu and my site as the game approaches.

I can tell you what a difference a year makes. Mount went from being very senior oriented in 2007 to having 5 senior starters on offense and 4 on defense and a TOTAL of 11 on the entire two-deep depth chart. But two of them are named Micheli and Kmic so this should be fun.

Is it Saturday yet?

Ric

For those wondering about the W&J scrimmage as I have gotten numerous emails. Lets just say the Presidents spent Friday discussing how to tackle Nate Kmic since they had no clue how to do it Thursday. The only person in the place that slowed Nate was LK who limited his action.

Pat Coleman

W&J has a lot to accomplish before it needs to worry again about tackling Nate Kmic.

seventies:
Thanks for the follow-up historical info.  Yes, it does seem strange when you go back to visit the old dorm room - I felt the same way.

Ric:
Glad to have you back after the summer hiatus.  Sounds like your guys are ready to start blasting people again as usual.  Looks like the weather for Saturday will be great for football, at least here in the Midwest.  Looking forward to your posts and those of your other MUC and OAC colleagues here.

Ric,

Good to have you back.

Don't forget your picks.  I'm going to charge you $5 every time I have to remind you on Friday to post them this season.

Don't forget old Morgan Gym (1893-1973).  Morgan hosted one of the first intercollegiate basketball games in the country.  It was torn down during Pres. Ronald Weber's watch.  Gym is visible in background of the old photo of football game with Case in 1913.  Morgan was all I saw when I looked out the window of my freshman dorm room in King Hall.
I was in seventies class and I remember a full-time enrollment of between 1200-1300 students.  I know the college enrollment fell to 1100 until Dr. Harold Kolenbrander took over (1986) and built it into what it is today.

Did you also start in 1966?  I wonder if seventies, you and I are the nucleus of the predominant class of 'old pharts' on d3boards.com! ;D

When I go back to IWU it is eerie: I couldn't figure out why the library was closed midday on a Saturday, until I recalled that that library (which only opened when I was a junior) was no longer the library!  (Fortunately, Buck Library, from my early years, is still alive and well with a different mission. :))

When I first started, IWU was considerably smaller than my high school.  Since then it has grown 30%, while my HS has shrunk 40%. :D

It also appears that Pierrre is the #1 punt returner for the Colts.  Speaking of depth charts, how/where can you access the 2-deep for MUC?  Thanks!
