"THE STOONK" is a retired banker from California,,and has a brother who coached  fb for MUC for many years. Fortunately,,the Stoonk is still living in Cal and can't get close to LK .

Nice article by Keith Mc M on ONU and their coach.  THE game this week is in A town and this should be a good one for both teams.  Line play must continue to improve for the Raiders.  Another test by fire as Coach Paul will bring the house on this one.   GO RAIDERS1

Very good article by Keith on ONU's program.

I only played for Coach Paul for one year (I graduated immediately following the season), but he made an impression on me with both his attention to detail and his "academic gameplan".  I knew this would make his players better students and ready for success after they graduated.

Fast forward to this year...I've kept in touch with Coach Paul and when my alma mater's football program held their first annual football ONLY golf outing, he was the unanimous choice for myself and two of my best friends.  It was alot of fun telling the old stories and playing some golf with him that day...even though we didn't win (mostly my fault for not showing up).  I can only imagine Ohio Northern doing something in his honor (should he end his career there) because of all the young men's lives he helps to shape.

I know Coach Kehres is proud of the way Dean Paul, Mike Hallett and the other players he's coached, have turned into teachers.  I know this week along with Heidelberg is probably hard on him...but ultimately, its a celebration of LK's influence on his players.

Thank you again, coach and good luck this weekend.

I'm really excited about the evening game this week. A rare chance in the middle of Cross Country and Youth Football to get home to Alliance for a regular season game and what should be a good one at that. Gotta agree with Bushman, Coach Paul should bring them ready for a fight. Wouldn't want it any other way. It's the last game I'll get to see before the surgery on my spine, so I really hope it's a great game. I'm still planning on be ready for the first playoff game and Salem if they make there again. Just like a Pro athlete, miss the whole regular season but be ready for the playoffs.

If you read the Raider's football newsletter, it's clear that Larry is proud of all his "boys", but he is especially proud of those who are teaching and coaching. If they just follow his example, they all have an unfair advantage over coaches who trained elsewhere. They all have a pretty high standard to live up to,  like the hundred plus of us who followed in Coach Wuske footsteps to coach Cross Country and Track.

More about LK's influence on his former players getting into coaching. Recent MU graduates, Tim Reash is on the staff at Ohio Northern, Geoff Dartt is coaching tight ends at Wheaton and Jason Lewis, Derek Blanchard, Tony DeRiggi and a couple of other kids I can't remember from last year's team are coaching at Mount. If these kids are smart they will keep in touch with LK throughout their coaching (or other) careers and keep learning from him.

seventies - Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.  Hope you come back in time for a strong playoff run!

I think this weekends game will be a great one! The 20-3 ONU v. NCC score is deceiving and not indicative of how well ONU's defense played. They took a 3-0 halftime lead and NCC scores were the result of turnovers with great field position. ONU's defense held NCC's offense on 3 goal line stands for no points. At that point, I felt very good about the ONU team. Now I could easily blame the rain (and believe me I mean, heavy and constant rain) on the turnovers, but the same did not hold true for NCC. You got to take care of the ball no matter what. If we can hold onto the ball, I believe we can play with Mount. Also, Ro Grigsby will be back (held out for precautionary reasons) to catch many Simmons passes.

I hope both teams bring their A games so we can se what I hope to be one of the greatest games this season. And of course, here's hoping the Bears come out on top!
One game at a time!!!

Only if we can use the cold driving rain two years ago for the reason we lost to ONU :D ;D 8)

Thanks S-B-S Just trying to prove I have some backbone

BTW do any other schools in the OAC sell off old jerseys.  I have a lot of my game-worn jersey collection in my classroom, but the only college one is Johnny Josef's Mount Union 99 . I'd be more than happy to buy a few and represent other OAC schools if any other schools sell them. After all, there are some kids I don't want to run into at Mount at football games.

reality check

This Saturday night represents the only game I will be able to listen to live this season until the Stagg.  One of the perils I failed to realize when I started coaching last season but know to expect now.  Saturdays we practice from 8-10:30 and then break down film and gameplan until mid-afternoon.  Factor in the 3 hour time difference and that means a lot of college football is off the boards for me.

All that said, I wouldn't trade coaching for all the ONU, OAC, D3 or NCAA games in general as I love being a part of so many underprivileged young men's lives.

My son is getting married in Columbus next Saturday! ;D >:(  Clearly my new Daughter-in-law has no sense of priorities!  I have arranged for text messages at the reception so I can keep up with the game. :D

Those of you lucky enough to be there should see a great game.  Go Raiders!

Seventies, best of luck to you.  See you at the Playoffs!
