I have to say I am a little surprised at the Cap MUC outcome.  I wasn't sure if Cap could win or not but I thought it would be competitive.  They need to regroup quickly and get ready for a tough road the next several weeks.  They have BW, JCU and Northern all on the road and the Otters at home.

Other than Garcon who was better than C. Shorts last year?  Wow, very impressive.

reality check

Just a note on my Polar Bears...

They managed 38 points combined in the first four games, obviously losing all four.

They put up 41 on the Student Princes in Tiffin for a win.

Lots of new names involved in the scoring and production and absence of the regulars.  Brent Donley had his coming out party with 102 yards rushing on 19 carries for 3 TD's.  Someone said it after the ONU/MUC game that he was the future of ONU's offense and it appears the future became the present on Saturday.

Gabe Washington managed 15 tackles (11 solo) and a FF/FR.  Quite an individual performance on defense for the linebacker.

Hopefully ONU pulls it together the rest of the way and plays like they're capable of as they try to play spoiler to a couple teams in the second half of the season.

Central Washington's Mike Reilly set an NCAA record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass at 41, throwing for four scores and 371 yards in a 50-28 victory over Western Washington on Saturday night.

Reilly broke the record of 40 he shared with former Mount Union star Bill Borchert (1994-97). With his first scoring pass, Reilly also passed current Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna for most career TD passes at Central with 100.[/]

Hey, lets update records so that everybody's post season stats are included.

after reading a few posts, and reading about MUC and its tradition... im interested to know or see peoples opinions on the best of the best, an all time MUC team or starting line up if you will.... offense and defense.

1. Cecil Shorts is impressive. I had him in a class his first year and he is a good kid, I did not realize how talented he was on the field. However, no way is he 6 foot - unless I am 6'2 (for the record I am 5'10).

People are known to keep growing in college right?  Although I suspect he is probably around 5' 10" or so.  ;)

I had Cecil in class spring semester--I am 6'2"--and I believe he is 6' tall, as advertised --plays much taller though!!
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

I'm not an expert but I seriously have to ask the D3 experts who vote on the #1 team in the nation...who's not voting for Mount Union???

After the results from this weekend they only get 84% (21 of 25 votes) of the national vote as the #1 team?  If my 8th grader gets an 84% at school that's a C+.

Not a passing grade for the voters.  Wake up!

Go back and read the archives from this summer (I think you can search the posts for key words) as JK started a discussion on this very topic.

I certainly hope this was just tongue-in-cheek.

Perhaps you haven't noticed that the defending national champion has also been pounding everyone in sight.  I'd cast my vote (if I had one) for MUC, but I would hardly disparage those who are voting for UWW.

Here's my list from this previous June (with a few minor revisions):

Here's my MUC team based on your parameters:

2 QB = Jim Ballard '93 and Bill Borchert '97 (these 2 are head & shoulders above the rest)

3 RB = Nate Kmic '08, Chuck Moore '01 and Dan Pugh '02 (another easy one)

4 WR = Ed Bubonics '93, Adam Marino '00, Pierre Garcon '07 and Darin Kershner '98 (Kevin Knestrick and Reiko Gollate, both from '97 would be next, but miss the cut)

6 OL = Jason Gerber '00, Derek Blanchard '07, Jason Lewis '06, Joe Weimer '96, Bill Rychel '00 and J.W. Wearley '98 (a ton of great O-linemen left off, including Tom Bauer '99, Matt Johnson '94, Steve Harter '83, Mike Elder '92, Josh Weber '96, Eric Safran '07)

1 TE = Rob Atwood '93 (some great TE's get left off, specifically Brian Tyla and Adam Irgang)

1 K = Ken Edelman '90 (Rodney Chenos '00 has "The Kick" and would be next)

5 DL = Mike Hallett '93, Matt Campbell '02, Justin Stickley '05, Matt Domin '99 and Rich Dine '94 (Hardest group to pick.  Pat McCullough, Buddy Wolf, Todd Braden, Jim Eismon, Jim Frink, Antoine Dillard, Johnny Josef, etc all got strong consideration)

4 LB = Jason Hall '98, Rob Rogers '93, Mark Black and Shaun Spisak '04 (The first 3 spots were no-brainers.  4th spot was hard.  DeRiggi '07 was such a physical speciman, Jesse Pearson '00 just made plays)

5 DB = Chris Kern '02, Mike Miller '03, Ross Watson '05, Sean Moore and Kris Bugara '98

1 P = this team wouldn't need a punter.  Ever.

UWW opened up with wins of 24-9 (St. Xavier) and 16-14 (UW-Eau Claire).  I wouldn't say those were poundings.

They then beat a 2-2 Puget Sound team 60-7, a 0-5 LAX team 31-0 and a 2-5 River Falls team 52-24.  Those scores would classify as "Poundings" to me, but the first two would seem to be good-solid wins.

I am not saying that UWW doesn't deserve any votes, just not really agreeing with the "Pounding Everyone in Sight" comment.

I certainly understand why a few voters keep WWW No.1. They beat us in the championship game, are the defending champions, and  deserve to be No.1 until they are eliminated from the playoffs. They didn't just win the game, they beat us.

Mount Union and Mount Union football have arrived. They have not one but two Mount Union T-Shirts at Steve and Barry's.

Now for the bad news.

My son who at 11 has been to 6 Stagg Bowls was with me yesterday and didn't want another Mount shirt. After visting the Salem Va area so many times and doing all the tourist things, all my son wanted was a Virginia Tech shirt. What next, a daughter that wants to go to Wilmington and a son who wants to go to Virginia Tech. Should I tell them their college funds each dropped 9 grand last month? Hell, I'm still teaching at 60, I can probably make 75 with a artificial knees and a pacemaker.

Oh Well, it was cool seeing Mount Union t-shirts between Seton Hall and Kansas.  If your desperate, they have a John Carrol shirt as well. :P
