I certainly understand why a few voters keep WWW No.1. They beat us in the championship game, are the defending champions, and  deserve to be No.1 until they are eliminated from the playoffs. They didn't just win the game, they beat us.

My comment was not tongue n cheek as one poster implied.  I'm serious.  I don't believe someone needs to be kept at #1 based upon last year's performance.  I believe last year's poll should be about what you did last year.

Let's talk about this year.  Mount has defeated 2 top 10 teams and 1 top 25 team...convincingly.  Compared to WW doing what???  Getting by?

Now I see Mount is only receiving 31 of a possible 40 first place votes to remain number one in this week's AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll.  (77%)???

I guess what I'm asking is that...Does nearly 25% of voting experts currently believe that this year's WW team is better than MUC???

Sorry to sound like a homer but let's get serious for a moment can we?  If the teams face each other in the playoffs LK is going to press the gas pedal down all the way to the floor.

Mr. Ypsi

OU#25, relax, man, a poll is (hopefully informed) opinion, and opinions differ.  I'd vote for MUC, but can understand (and not belittle) those voting for UWW.

Last year entering the playoffs, MUC WAS unanimously #1 - that didn't count for squat in the Stagg. ;)

Fine...I'm happy to sit back and see what happens...

Since this is the board for opinions I would be curious to hear from some of you...regarding what would happen if Mount played WW next week on a neutral field...scores anyone?

You would have to ask Coach Kehres...

In my humble opinion..."No".   WW did a great job controlling the game and keeping Mount off balance.  History & records prove however that those games come around every 5 years or so...

If both teams face each other this season...I would imagine that Mount would not hold back any option available to them.  Just my opinion...but I could see a 20 point + victory without question.

At least they're giving the other 4 votes to a team that has proven to be a worthy opponent.  It's not like they're voting for a NCAC team.

Check out the mug shot of Reginald Gooch II.  I am sure his parents are proud:

Salibury U Players Arrested

The best part about this is the quote from Salisbury's coach: "When contacted about the arrests, SU Football Coach Sherman Wood confirmed with WBOC that the arrested  players are "not part of the program. Their names are off the team's roster on (SU's) Web site." Yet another difference between D3 and the others.

Mount Union and Mount Union football have arrived. They have not one but two Mount Union T-Shirts at Steve and Barry's.

Which Steve and Barry's? The one by me (North Olmsted) is closing and never had any Mount shirts.

Actually it's 9 other votes not 4 and it's nearly 25% of the voters.  I did not know that being a"worthy opponent" was the grounds to vote a team #1?  And again...that matchup was from LAST YEAR.  The Browns proved to be a worthy opponent to the Giants but they're not going to be ranked #1 anytime soon?

Maybe I just don't understand how the voting works?  I thought is was based upon current performance???

Nine in the AFCA poll, four in the D3football poll. That's what hscoach is referring to.

The Crews Lake Middle School RAIDERS got their second victory of the season (and school history) last night 17-8.

I know it would involve relocation and a search for a real job but I'm curious about coaching for CLMS.  The press coverage is better than what I get as a HS coach out here and I am looking for some media exposure.   ;D

Overlooking the fact that the AFCA poll is a complete joke, why are you so wrapped up in  meaningless polls?  Even though the D3 poll is better, it means absolutely NOTHING.  Sorry Pat & Keith.

My comment about "worthy opponent" was part tongue-in-cheek and part truth.  I was partly making fun of the polls historic love affair with average teams that win alot in the regular season like W&J and partly agreeing with Whitewater being legit enough for consideration as #1.

If anything has been proven over the last 3 years is that Mount and Whitewater have been consistently better than the rest of D3, and usually by quite a large margin.  And you can't really compare regular season scores between MUC and WWW because the WIAC scores are usually much closer than the OAC's.  Last year's Mount steam roller thru the regular season proved that without a doubt.

I have no problem with WWW getting votes as the #1 team.  I wouldn't put them there, but they'd easily be my #2 team in the nation.  Now if someone like Wabash, Muhlenberg or Wheaton was getting votes for #1 ahead of MUC, then I'd take exception to the poll.  But I can easily see why someone would have WWW #1.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

With the housing market down here in W. Florida you can probably get a house cheap, but the coaching supplement for an assistant coach at the MS level is not very lucrative!  LOL
