Has anyone else considered the following...

I hear over and over how Mount Union is the "winningest" team in all of college football (%-wise) since 1990.  Can someone do a little digging here...because I'm going to bet that Mount Union is the "winningest" team since 1985 or even 1980???  It won't be as impressive as the run since 1990..but still the best in the land I'm sure.  Let's go MUC PR department and/or D3 posters!

PurpleSuit

well since 1986 (start of LK era), MUC is a tidy 267-21-3 for a .918 winning percentage...might be tough to top that

reality check

I did get it this morning.  Thanks again.

Okay this is by no means a scientific - or even "reliable" - survey but here goes. According to WikiAnswers (it was the only real hit I got) the winningest team since 1980 is........Florida State. Now that must be bunk but I went with it. Since 1980 Fl. State is 266-77-4. Duing the same time frame THEE Mount Union Purple Raiders (has a bit of a "ring" ;D to it) are 303-34-3.

Now I aint no math wiz - but I think Mount beats Florida State in this one.

Desertraider, I feel honored to be included in that group!  :)

It is well deserved. I know I left out a few (RC is one that comes to mind now) but I hope they don't feel slighted.

I'm assuming that MUC's record includes playoff appearances?  I wonder if Fl. State (or any other competitor) includes bowl appearances in their overall record.....

In my poll I counted Florida States bowl games. Did not have the time to go through and weed out playoff games and bowl games. Granted I don't know that it would account for roughly 10 percentage points.

Thanks Desert Raider!
The point is to give the Mount Union football program its due.  If they're the "winningest" since 1980 or even earlier...the program should get credit for the full body of work.  Let's not just start at 1990.  I say go back as far as possible in the record books!

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

Ric has MTU's Historical Winning Percentage as:  62.4%

That goes back to 1893.

You can see the list here:
Ric's Site
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

If my math is right, the Mount Union Winning Percentage going back to 1962 (Beginning of Wable Era) is 76.8%.

390-116-5
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Small but Slow

I wonder how Mount's record stacks up against any other program over the past 46 years?  Penn State is probably up there in DI, can't think of any DII or I-A schools that could match up over that period.  There's another topic for research.

Good job guys!

This is my point...If Mount's winning % is the best since whenever...let's use that date.  This 1990 reference shows me that no one at MUC has done any research and that they've been lazy.   I mean seriously...they've been using the 1990 milestone for at least 8 years and I know that we've been the winningest since at least 1980.

Good luck to Capital as they face the Muskies this weekend....  It is sad to read that Capital has lost their starting Qb back to back years...
D3 teams are lucky to have more than one talented Qb ready to come in and play

Exception - Mount.. Some D1 guy with transfer there lol

Thanks to my rehab I get to see things like the ESPN U High School Game of the Week announced by non other than Rowan's former super Transfer Gus Ornstein.  Never realized that after his Rowan career he transferred to Michigan State and graduated (corrected) Suma Cum Laude. One name I never expected to hear again.

Maybe this was common knowledge, but I seldom have time to watch whole games from other states.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...
