Marietta is bad and not good bad, awful bad, especially on the D side of the ball. They are almost dead last against the pass. Ckick HERE FOR PROOF

They are so bad, Ric isn't going, and that is the equivilent of my late brother missing a game, which we did at Tiffin because of driving sleet storm, but at least we started out and decided to listen to it on the radio at a local watering hole

Looks like they are about deadlast against everything. I did not figure it would be a battle - just trying to figure when the starters come out, and how many yards Nate might get. I think at one point against OTT he had 6 carries for 60+ yards. This could be more.

Actually at ONE POINT, Nate was 2 for 65. Thanks to the 56 yards romp.

I share your cautious optimism for this MUC team's playoff run.  I wasn't sure how good this MUC team really was, even though I'd seen them play against CAP and JCU.  I wondered how they would do against a quality opponent, especially since most of the OAC teams have struggled this season.  At the OTT game, I saw a much more determined MUC group that finally showed their toughness and imposed their will against a good team.  I still have some questions about the O-line and how they will match up when they get into a cold-weather slugfest against a strong D-line, but I think their chances of a return to Salem are very good.  Micheli, Shorts, and Kmic are firing on all cylinders and I just don't see anyone shutting down the MUC offense.  I'm anxious to see how the playoff brackets work out.

Formula for beating Mount Union (at least when I was there)

1. Run the ball, good teams have run the ball against Mount Union, see UMHB 04, SJU 03 UWW 07 ONU 05
2. Take the ball away, see teams noted above

That said, Good Luck

Based on LK's approach to these games in previous years, I would expect Kmic to only get around 10-12 carries on Saturday.  Predicting the yardage is a crap shoot because that will most likely depend on the field position provided by the MUC defense.

The worst game (yardage) for the Raiders offensively this season was against Heidelberg simply becuase they kept starting their drives on the Berg side of the 50.   And I am expecting more of the same against Marietta.

If I had to guess, I say Kmic goes 12 carries for 88 yards and 2 TD's in about a quarter and a half of play.  Same as versus Wilmington, all of the starters will be done at halftime.  First drive of 3rd quarter at the absolute latest if LK was unhappy with the mental focus in the first half.

Excuse me, they are second in the conference in kickoff returns. You give up more than 30 points a game, you field a lot of KO's

Which should make my trip to Etta much more enjoyable ;D.

I had this mastered in the Playstation 2 Version of College Football (I relied on the game to keep me from talking to my then wife).  My skill guys were always in the Heisman Hunt with astronomical numbers because all of my negative yardage returns.  I'd start drives on the 1 yard line, everytime.  I don't see LK doing this though... but it would help.

I would like another crack at MHB.   Of all Mt.s  recent losses that game still leaves a sour taste.

Thomas More for Mount in the first round? A fearless prediction by our gurus here at D3.

Bushman...I agree with a MHB rematch. That loss just sucked canal water!

So if the playoffs work out how they predicted, and if otterbein was to pull out a first round victory, does that mean Mount and OC would meet up in the second round?

And, on another note, the game this week at JCU really makes me nervous. I hope the Cards don't have a let down and lose a game that they shouldn't. It would be a terrible end to a great season

seventiesraider

JCU has some decent frosh running backs if they want to promote them from JV for the final week. Sadly unless they have some great freshman O-liners, they may spend a good deal of time on their backs.

For fans of Thomas More, it is what it is.  And hopefully "it" is incorrect..

Positioning the current teams that are IN from the North Region, I would doubt that Mount would play Ott until the regional final, which is the typical scenario with both teams being from the same conference. (that meaning the third round)

Nope. They would meet in round 2 and the committe has only ever cared about 1st round rematches  between conference foes. they don't pay much attention to it after that. plenty of examples. same scenario for WIAC teams up north. Also, Witt/Bash in 02.

HScoach

MUC/ONU played in the 2nd round of the 2000 playoffs too.

The only thing the NCAA tries to avoid is a conference re-match in round 1.
