Had to say kudos to Keith for the ATN column this week. Great read - if you have not read it yet. By the way who is "Steve Miller"? Is that like Miller beer?   ;D

Could this be one of Larry's best coaching jobs in 23?  Could this be one of Gagliardi's poorest in ten years?

I hate that poll and don't know why I look at the darn thing.  I will look, though, to see how many higer ranked coaches get beaten by the PRaiders yet this year.  It could be two.

Great read indeed.  Can't help wondering, after looking at the numbers in ATN, what is Nate's career yards per game in the playoffs.  I think it is significantly better than in the regular season.

From ATN:

Kmic recently passed Beaver for second on the list of Division III rushers, all-time. If he stays healthy and Mount Union makes its yearly trip to Salem, Kmic is likely to break Bowers' record but fall short of becoming the leading rusher in college football history. In six games, Kmic would need to average less than 107 yards per game to catch Bowers and 207 per game to pass Chadron State's Danny Woodhead. Even if Mount Union were stunningly eliminated early or Kmic is hurt, Bowers is in his sights: In five games, he needs 128 per, and in four, he needs 160. This season, he's averaging 159.9 yards per game.

Top Career Rushers, NCAA, all divisions
1. Danny Woodhead, Division II Chadron State, 2004-07, 7,962 yards
2. R.J. Bowers, Division III Grove City, 1997-2000, 7,363
3. Germaine Race, Division II Pittsburg State, 2003-06, 6,985
4. Brian Shay, Division II Emporia State, 1995-98, 6,958
5. Josh Ranek, Division II South Dakota State, 1997-2001, 6,794
6. Nate Kmic, Division III Mount Union, 2005-present, 6,723
7. Ian Smart, Division II C.W. Post, 1999-2002, 6,647
8. Justin Beaver, Division III UW-Whitewater, 2004-07, 6,584
9. Adrian Peterson, Division I-AA (FCS) Georgia Southern, 1998-2001, 6,559
10. Charles Roberts, Division I-AA (FCS) Sacramento State, 1997-2000, 6,553
11. Kavin Gailliard, Division II American International, 1996-99, 6,523
12. Ron Dayne, Division I-A (FBS) Wisconsin, 1996-99, 6,397

Better not get ahead of myself though.

This voting is just a result of having people actually go to the website and voting.  I believe that fan voting only results in a top 10 situation and then the Award Selection Committee chooses based on the criteria.  Its not simply a question of who has the best season, however..  its based on both on the field and off the field criteria.

Bambord:
Nate's playoff numbers are awesome. In 15 playoff games he has rushed for 2736 yards for an average of 182.4 per game. I used Ric's site (can we just call this the Mount Bible?) and added up the following numbers:
2007 - 709 [991] yards/5 games (141.8 avg.)
2006 - 987 [1378] yards/5 games (197.8 avg.)
2005 - 1040 [179] yards/5 games (208 avg.)

His regular season yards are in [brackets]. Based on this more than half of his yards come in the playoffs - 2006 being the exception. Most of this is because he plays more in the playoffs (as in all 4 qtrs.). Regardless Kmic is a Beast - just ask SJF!

Sorry - I did not mean to say "half". My point was that Nate steps up in the playoffs and his numbers show it. That being said - Go Raiders!

Okay - I like this one:
Figure a conservative 100 yards today (maybe a little less depending on playing time) giving him a Net of 1539 on the year.  Then oh..I don't know...1200 in the playoffs for a total of 2739 for the year and a four year total of 8023 yards!!! Au revoir Monsieur Woodhead!!

Kmic needs to average, what, about 130 ypg over the last 6 games (provided MUC makes it to the NC game again), to catch Bowers?

That's doable, especially with the level of competiton improving and, presumably him playing more time and getting more carries.

Kmic has averaged 182.3 YPG in his playoff career.  Interesting though, Kmic's workload/numbers have gone down since his ridiculous freshman playoff campaign.

2005: 38 carries per game for 205 YPG
2006: 28 carries per game for 198 YPG
2007: 22 carries per game for 142 YPG

Of Kmic's 6557 career yards, 2736 have come in 15 playoff games.  In other words, 41.7% of his career yards have come in the playoffs.

2736 yards in 15 playoff games versus 3821 yards in 35 regular season games.

Sick (hscoach), ridiculous (RC).

I just quoted a post from about a week ago when we were discussing Kmic's playoff success.  I think the percentages of Kmic's playoff success versus his regular season success is what's most impressive.
