RMC at 4-2, tied three other school to first in the ODAC, but won the battle of the head to head matchups. i quess there two ways to look at it, either there is a great deal of parity in the Old Dominion or the Old Dominion sucked this year. Sorry Pat and KMack.

I guess we'll find out Saturday if parity in the ODAC is based on supremacy or mediocrity.  I would like to see Mount challenged a bit more in the early rounds.  Winning a national semifinal 64-whatever doesn't prepare a team for tough games.

Thought I'd meander over here and ask:

As a Bomber fan, I'm dismayed we may have to deal with you again in the regional finals this season. Since the playoff capsules were no help, and my straightforward question of: "Can we discuss the possibility of MUC losing to someone in the East?" was met with a "Why bother?" maybe you guys can help.

While you're obviously the overwhelming favorite to waltz through the region unblemished, are there any chinks in the armor? Any types of defenses thet gave you a bit of trouble, or an offense it took you a half to figure out? IC's chances are 500-1 in all likelyhood, but anyone have any insight to the one?

Pat - Before it becomes important: Do you pronounce Wiilamette Will a mette or Wil lam ette
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Honestly Bomber, the only thing I can say is jump on Mount early. A handfull of teams have had success runnning the ball in the first couple of drives. Beyond that I think passing is a futile gesture and will probably end up in more points for Mount than opponents. A little razzle dazzle might make the game more interesting, ie triple reverse, hook and ladder, statue of liberty. (you might want to check some Three Stooges movies) 8) ;D :D

Bomber Fan - Any time two teams step on the field there is alway a chance.  To beat Mount Union a team has to first not beat itself.  MUC usually has enough weapons to beat any team it plays.  Turnovers and penalties from trying to do too much on one play lead to the lopsided scores.  If an opponent can come out and hold the ball and keep the game close and force the Raiders to make some mistakes it can possibly get some momentum and get out with a win.  It's not as easy as it sounds, though.

Agreed!  Most teams come out too stiff and almost fearing the outcome.  Just finished reading a book 12 Mighty Orphans about a team from a Masonic orphan home that found ways to beat teams against seemingly insurmountable odds.  Attitude and execution are the keys to beating a physically superior foe.

Bombers- I would echo what has already been said.  I think the first thing a team has to do is approach the game like they do every other game they've won that season.  Using the Otterbein game as an example, Otterbein came out ready to fight in warm-ups and all that pre-game crap translated into a fumbled kickoff and MUC touchdown.  Don't let MUC get in your head based on who they are.  After that, play your tail off and hope to catch some breaks as well (just like most any other game a team plays in).
They should have practiced harder.

Otterbein is never going to live down a little pregame excitment, are they?

I think that there is a difference between pre-game excitement and trying to start something with a program that has been on top of the mountain for 15 years or so.

A couple of suggestions to the Otterbein team:
Act like you have been there before.
Don't Poke the Bear.

All will be forgotten if they beat MUC.  I remember hearing stories about the days when MUC was struggling to end the B-W losing streak.  I'm sure nobody talks about those any more.

The opinion of this "neutral observer" is.........no, not in the forseeable future.

A quote from the late Jim Croce, "You don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger," and you don't mess around with Mount.

skunks_sidekick

If you are to beat Mount I would think that any coach would review/use last year's Stagg Bowl as the blueprint.  Defensively put constant pressure on Micheli, and use the run blitz repeatedly.  Lock down Garcon (insert Shorts here) with one or two d-backs.

Offensively you must mix your play selection effectively.  WW converted on 3rd down with flares, outs, etc...  Run the ball late in the game to prevent Mount from getting it back.

Win the turnover & kicking game.

Can that happen....yes.  Will it......time will tell but I doubt it.

Old Otter....

Considering the fact that a fair amount of talk on here this week was directed towards the Wabash Cheer Boy behavior from six years ago....ummmm.....NOPE.....OTT is going to pay for their indiscretion for YEARS AND YEARS!   ;D

desert raider - My brother took my five year old nephew with us to the playoff game last year along with my nine year old son, and the boys had a blast.  About midway through the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand we did take them down and let them play in a snow pile.  What can I say, my son's a Florida boy and it was only the second time he had seen snow.
