Why exchange barbs with SJF? Obviously he's bitter and loves to eat crow and leather.

I don't know why you keep hammering on about the end of last year's Stagg.  VK reacted very poorly

The reason is, because all of you MUCers were howling about the level of class and sportsmanship following TCNJ, and really looking down on all the other programs. . .

It took a loss for the high and mighty football elites to witness that perhaps the only reason why you think you were sports, is because you hadn't been on the wrong side of a final score in a while. . .

. . . we're all human at the end.

If losing by 10 is getting slapped, what is losing 26-14, 52-10, and 33-3 in consecutive years?

We're pacing ourselves . .  :-)

Here is a question I have thought of for some time.

In all respect....  Forget the starters for a moment.  Does Mount Union's 2nd string win the OAC and make the playoffs?  Do they make it to Salem?

I've thought about it throughout the years.  They'd compete in the OAC, but I don't think they'd win the thing, and they'd definitely be above .500.  No Salem for the 2nd string.

- you're acting with that same level of emotional stability we saw last year at the conclusion of the stagg.  Take a deep breath and relax. . .

You can tell me how to relax.  You've got the entire playoffs and the off-season to do nothing but sit back and relax.

Good one . . . and so true.

Face it, nobody in the East is beating Mount.

Sadly, that may prove to be true, we'll find out over the next couple of weeks, and the first week of September.

It will be tough for the East to beat MUC in any years as the East does abide by NCAA D3 standards. .   MUC is bound to have the same fate as Akron - only a matter of time

SJF Fan,
I have been reading the last 2-3 hours' posts.   There has been a lot of bantering, but WHAT is this supposed to mean?   Obviously you are suggesting that Larry Kehres and Mount Union are doing something illegal.   Yes, Mount is on a run that outrivals EVERYONE.    But what are they doing that is illegal, immoral or indecent?
I'll wait for a decent answer.    >:(

The number one and two teams in the nation are clearly under greater scrutiny than a 6-4 team in a below average conference. If anybody is cheating, it would be the teams trying to catch up. Have your kids been drug tested? Stagg Bowl winners and LOSERS ARE.

Sorry there is a thin line between damn proud and pompous and it depends on where your standing. I'm sure you'll find no pompous players at Mount Union, Larry won't put up with it.

I'm sorry about Vince Kehres' outburst at Stagg Bowl as I'm sure he is. To comment that our fans were part of that is just uninformed as is to say we backhanded complimented them. Were you in parking lot shaking hands with Whitewater folks after the game, I was. Stick to humor which your not very good at and facts, which totally escape you. Apparently there are no required logic courses at SJF

70's,
My wife and I have been going to Mount games for more than 30 years.   Remember back when it was just fun to go to a game?   (Oh my, we might even win this one!).  I have to admit being very spoiled expecting to win almost every game.   I try not to be the least bit cocky, but I sure am proud of my Purple Raiders.

I grew up in Beloit in the 70's.  I remember reading the Alliance review many, many times and it was yet another Mount Union football loss.  The program began to turn around in the 80's (prior to LK's arrival) when Scott Wolfe was the QB and they began to challenge Augustana in a couple of great playoffs game when Augustana was setting the standard for DIII football.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Yes, they do have a loss - it happens when you play in a real conference. .

As a neutral party, I did a little research on this and posted it on a board a few weeks ago:

While I agree that the second place team in the OAC is typically very strong and could win some other conferences, I think saying that the top two teams in the OAC are better than 80% of all teams in D3 may be stretching a bit.

Perhaps a bit.  Over the last 6 years (if you include the 10th ranking that Otterbein is currently sporting), the worst that a 2nd place OAC team has finished as far as national ranking according to the D3 week 16 poll is 19th:

2008:  Otterbein - 10
2007:  Captial - 13
2006:  Captial - 3
2005:  Captial - 5
2004:  Ohio Northern - 19
2003:  Baldwin Wallace - 9

If you average the rankings of the 2nd place OAC team from those 6 years together, you get a ranking just under 10.  Considering one of those 9 ranked above the 2nd place OAC team is always MUC, that leaves, on average, 8 other teams that finish ahead of the second place OAC team.  If there are 27 conferences, I guess that means that they are better than about 70% of all of the other conference champs.  So yes, 80% is stretching it, but not by much. ;)  If you're just talking about teams in general, then a ranking of 10th out of the 242 total teams puts them better than 96%.

If they OAC is not a real conference, I don't know who is, chief.
I am a NATIONAL Champion, and I refuse to lose!

I am sitting here laughing my butt off because SJF has to be one of the more entertaining posters on the board.  Let's face it, the football talk sucks so far this postseason, so may as well get some  banter back and forth.  I cannot help but think that AJF is sitting somewhere in the EAST just chuckling while we Mount posters fall all over ourselves trying to convince him that he is the biggest butthead fan in the USA....I do hope he is kidding and one of the more sarcastic jokers around...

Did anyone tell SJF that VK is in the pressbox this year?  I think that is funny....LK does have a way of getting control of things..

The SJF bass drum incident was one of the greatest things I have seen at MUC, you had to love it....I am looking forward to going to Fisher next year.  I am told their facilities are top quality and a great place to play and watch.   And if SJF is not so serious and a good kidder, we'll take him out for a brewski..  (If you are serious about all you post, you should be examined)

SJF:  a note of caution:  Don't let Larry Kehres find out you have been accusing him of cheating....I would hate for you to anger him....

Good point.   There are a FEW times LK will run up the score.    :D

I "played"  (read "practiced") briefly with the Purple Raiders briefly before Coach Wuske reminded me it was his letter encouraging me to come to Mount to run track that got a kid from Omaha Nebraska to Alliance (besides being a fourth generation legacy). I laughed recently when Toph (a JCU guy) said he would probably be at the Hood after the half because the game would probably be "over." We very often left before the half in the sixties and were drinking beer on the Miller Hall fire escape because the games were over, way over.  (unless we were playing Hiram, which was often Homecoming).

I believe Coach Wuske asked me if I wanted to break a leg playing football for a 1-7 team. He believed in laying out your options realisticly.  (He also had my letter jacket in the waste basket when I went to pick it up because I didn't score at the conference meet. He mentioned he was just throwing his money away on me. And I still love that guy years after his death. He was the only person who really got through to me

This, of course was all long before we started "cheating" or dominating, depending on your perspective.
