Mount receivers are a tough one on one matchup...then factor in that Mount can go no huddle at anytime...go 4 or 5 receivers on any down and motion Kmic out of the backfield and line him up as a WR on any play...If you stack the box you're going to lose.  Also note that Micheli is basically another RB behind the line of scrimmage so if you happen to cover the receivers and get a good rush on him...he can sidestep a few defenders and go 60 yards (Wilmington) for the score.  Also Mount has not run one trick play all season so at any moment...Shorts could pass the ball as well...So yes...pick your poison.

As a retired stats instructor, thanks! ;D

Just for you:

Fielding Yost's record, 1901-05: 55-1-1 (outscored opponents 2,821-42 - bet even LK can't match that one! :D).

I may have over-stated the gap between Yost and Harmon, at least for the late 70s-80s crowd.  Some guy named Jerry Ford was a key player for the national champion Wolverines in 1932 and 1933, and the team MVP (when they won only 1 game) in 1934.  And, contrary to persistent rumor, he DID wear a helmet. :P

Mount Union had a stretch under LK where they won 54 in a row then lost then won another 55 in a row (or vice versa).  I believe that 109-1 beats Yost by a long shot.

Take that, Michigan man.   ;D

Pat Coleman

Suspect they allowed more than 109 points, though.

Pretty sure he was referring to the scoring margin, not the wins or losses.

And regarding Pioli, he's a Central Connecticut grad.  I thinks you're thinking of Chris Polian, current VP of the Colts and son of Bill Polian.

Yeah, I knew about the 109-1 stretch.  I was referring only to the 2,821-42 scoring difference. ;)

Small but Slow

It would be interesting to see how the MUC "O" responds if Cortland (or any for that matter) can stop (or at least limit) one aspect of the attack.  I believe it all lies with a "D" line being able to both stop the run and create a pass rush.  If a defense has to send LB's and DB's it leaves someone open downfield and Micheli an opening to run.  UWW and the NY Giants both used this approach last year to win championships in their respective divisions.

I the JCU grads would enjoy reading an article in foxsports on MSN discussing the possibility of the Detroit Lions hiring Scott Pioli as their GM, McDaniel's as their head coach, and signing Matt Cassel.

Just imagine how successful he'd be if he went to Hobart.

Now I'm done.  That's my last crack on a lone Hobart bitterman.  As a whole, the Hobart folks were great.  I just couldn't resist running that into the ground.

You know whats wrong with college football awards now a days? With Bob Hope dead and gone, nobody has a Christmas show to showcase the football stars on national TV like when I was a kid. If they did then Nate "The Delta Dart" Kmic and Greg "The Maestro" Micheli would be known nationally. Lets dig Bob up and do it one more time just for these guys sake! :)  If the team can win a 10th National Championship then I say we change the Team Recognition night to a Vegas style Celebrity Roast and put LK and the team up there on the dais and have at em. ;) Let Joe Tait introduce the comics and then stand back and let the comedians have at em. Who do you think we should get?  ;D

Maybe because Micheli would go "Borchert" and throw for 600 yards during the game?

LOL, I nominate this as POST OF THE WEEK!

hs coach - Thanks for the breakdown of Cortland.  A quick comparison of the rosters shows that Cortland has a slight size advantage up front.  Stopping the Mount running game and making the Raiders one dimensional sounds like a good plan.  Wonder why nobody has ever tried that before?

Nice.  I see you've been reading in the CCIW page ;)

I was an opposing coach getting ready to play Mount, especially in windy, 25 degree weather conditions, I'd sellout everything to stop the run.  If Mount can run with any consistency, the game is over.  At least if you make Mount pass to move the ball, you have the chance of mistakes or the weather being a factor.  Letting Kmic run wild is a death sentence.

Just in case anyone is sitting at home, bored to death and very impatiently awaiting tomorrow's game like I am, I thought a little dose of Kmic would pass the time:

Regarding the scoring margin...
He obviously did not take the starters out at halftime?  It's a good thing Kehres has class or that record might have been in peril as well.  ;)

That being said... I decided to look at Kehres' last 57 regular season games (because Yost coached 57 at Michigan) and for fun...I decided to look at Mount's scoring margin vs. their opponents but instead of taking final scores...I decided to try something a little different by using only the halftime scores of all games played during this time.  I thought comparing 1st Team MUC O/D versus their opponents 1st Teamers would be fair because it's obvious Yost kept his starters in and used every ploy to run up the score.  I doubt he punted on first down, intentionally ran out of bounds or took a knee at the one yard line...4 straight plays.

Here's the suprising results that I don't think anyone has ever looked at before:

Over the last 57 games (regular season... as I don't think they had a playoff system when Yost coached and still don't) and taking only halftime scores...a year by year look.

2008:
Mount:  296     Opp: 23      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 592      Opp: 46

2007:
Mount:  423     Opp: 3      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 846      Opp: 6

2006:
Mount:  325     Opp: 44      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 650      Opp: 88

2005:
Mount:  240     Opp: 31      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 480      Opp: 62

2004:
Mount:  244     Opp: 34      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 488      Opp: 68

2003 (Partial stats from last 7 games)
Mount:  241     Opp: 20      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 482      Opp: 40

57 Game Results:

1st Half Only
Mount: 1769   Opp: 155

Pro-rated Full Game Totals over the past 57 games:
Mount:  3538  (Avg. 62ppg)    Opp:  310  (Avg 5.4ppg)

Also how about those 2007 season stats:
2007:
Mount:  423     Opp: 3      Pro-rated full Game/Season   Mount: 846      Opp: 6

That would be a per game score of:
Mount: 84
Opponents: 0.6

I don't think Yost ever came anywhere near these #'s !!!

Actually, OU#25, UM outscored opponents one year (1902?) by 555-0. ;D

The norms of sportsmanship have certainly changed over the years, and Yost probably did leave his starters in all (or at least most) of the game (though, of course, they did play both ways - would Kmic and Micheli be LBs, DBs, or what? ;D)

But at least Yost never pounded a cupcake 216-0 like John Heisman did. ;)
